David Cage Doesn't Understand Human Emotions

Quantic Dream founder David Cage said in an interview that he bases games on emotions, but history shows that may not be the case.

What!?!?!? You mean kissing my girlfriend won't save me from law enforcement?!?!? Surely you jest!

rainslacker1751d ago

Maybe if your GF kisses the law enforcement?

David Cage is the Tommy Wiseau of gaming.

PatrickJS1751d ago

...I'm upset that we didn't go for that as our title.

ZaWarudo1751d ago

Hey man, that's not nice. Don't insult Tommy Wiseau like that.

Segata1751d ago

Accurate. I've been saying that for years.

gangsta_red1751d ago

Doesn't understand how to make an interesting game either

Battlestar231751d ago

Detroit Become Human, Beyond Two Souls and Heavy Rain prove you wrong. Just because a game isn't a dude bro shooter doesn't mean it's crap.

Knushwood Butt1751d ago

Gangsta has played all of these in depth at a secret location.

Larrysweet1751d ago

Detroit best interactive game ever made

gangsta_red1751d ago

Actually, those games just prove me right. Just because a game has a generic basic plot, bland characters, disjointed plot lines, blotted over used themes, doesn't make a game high art.

1751d ago
JackBNimble1751d ago

That's pretty subjective, I only have DBH because it was free , not my kind of genre.

"Just because a game has a generic basic plot, bland characters, disjointed plot lines, blotted over used themes, doesn't make a game high art."

You mean like 99% of the games on the market that are consider "masterpieces", show me one game that doesn't have at least one of those things you mentioned.

gangsta_red1751d ago (Edited 1751d ago )

@2pacalypsenow

'...show me one game that doesn't have at least one of those things you mentioned."

I never said any game was a masterpiece concerning it's story, that was never my argument or claim. So why do I have to show you a game that has just that?

Yeah if the game combined the microtransactions of FIFA, the 2003 shooting mechanics of Call of Duty, and the boring open map of Assassin's Creed then maybe we could call his games interesting.

gangsta_red1751d ago (Edited 1751d ago )

Yeah because if we put generic plot lines, overused themes, pretentious dull movie pretending to be a game and throw in a bunch of QTEs, that would make an even more interesting game

@gorillatactics

Since the game is a PlayStation exclusive. If it was multi platform or exclusive to another console, they’d be crapping all over it.

That's why nobody is interested in his games /s

Kostche1751d ago

exactly, dont worry about the downvotes, the guys writing is beyond generic, and every game he has done has had plot whole problems and writing issues, but people will like what they will like, regardless of how other people will see it for what it is

Pennywise1381751d ago

Have you honestly played Detroit Become Human? Serious question cause I normally don’t go for those types of games but I’m about halfway through Detroit and I’m finding it phenomenal. Very interesting concept with some very tense moments and second guessing decisions I make. The graphics are also really good. I also really like seeing how my choice thread compares to the rest of the world. It’s free on ps plus so give it a try if you haven’t already.

OB1Biker1751d ago (Edited 1751d ago )

Good advice: try to see many different outcomes. Even if you can't play it all, at least watch what you miss.
For instance Hank, Connor can go in very different and many interesting directions.

... He writes videogames. Fiction. It's supposed to entertain, everything else is trivial and resonate differently with different people, stop this f****ing crusade to make videogames more them they ought to be.

"stop this f****ing crusade to make videogames more them they ought to be."

To be fair, that's what David Cage has been trying to do.

Personally, my problem with Cage is that he doesn't know how to write a compelling ending. His games start off incredibly strong, with an air of freshness and originality. But in the final 3rd the games fall apart when Cage consistently resorts to the cliches he worked so hard to avoid in the first 2/3rds of the game.

His games would be even better if he gave the endings the same care and careful planning as the rest of the game.

TricksterArrow1751d ago (Edited 1751d ago )

He is pushing games to be more like interactive movies, though. Not anything else. Which is arguably what a lot of other devs are doing, albeit in their own way. And... Movies are also fiction and entertainment at the end of the day. You want something more serious, change to the news.

Everything else you said is pretty subjective, so I'll give you that.

T2X1751d ago

Exactly this! Sick of artsy fartsy morons reading way too deep into every damn story plot. Where robots are concerned, what the hell else are you going to do? I liked it.

Well that's an awesome and very surprising turnaround. Cheers to the new studio and what they'll build!

RaidenBlack7h ago

Likely to continue their FPS project

isarai6h ago

That's..... confusing, so shut down but just reformed and same employer 🤔 sounds like pretty much what happened to Japan Studio basically just being rebranded as Asobi

ocelot075h ago

It is odd one I don't know how business deals work or the law of that kind of stuff. But is it possible Sony reached out and said hey we want you apart of Sony but don't want to purchase you for what ever reason. How about use disband and we will open a studio and hire you guys type of thing. Is that even possible?

isarai5h ago

Maybe it's to void/bypass some contract? I have no clue

VersusDMC1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I guess the deviation team fell apart and didn't deliver good progress on what they pitched (they overhyped themselves when the team was announced)so Sony shut them down. They regrouped with a new team and a new pitch so Sony is giving them another shot.

And this time they are keeping it quiet to keep pressure down on the team. So people aren't asking everyday what deviation(or whatever the new team is called) is doing.

Edit: Also Sony never owned them. They just ended their partnership with them. Deviation decided to close on their own.

outsider162436m ago

Good point. You know, i was thinking of Days Gone too. They pitch an idea to Sony for Days Gone 2 but Sony didnt like it do they scrapped the whole thing. Maybe if a good pitch came by...they'd reconsider it.

roboteye53m ago

If this was MS they'd be gone.

Goodguy0136m ago

Maybe make a smaller game this time?

Elda17m ago

Good for them that they were able to work it out. Hopefully they're developing something interesting.
