Not Making a New Banjo-Kazooie Game Right Now Would be a Missed Opportunity for Microsoft

If they do I hope they use those designs, I have no idea why they let Rare change them for Nuts and Bolts like the old designs couldn't be updated for newer consoles.

PhoenixUp1782d ago

Those blocky angular redesigns are so unappealing to look at. I hate how they adorn Rare Replay’a box art

UltraNova1781d ago (Edited 1781d ago )

Honestly if Playtonic(the real Rare one could argue) couldn't do it with YL, I doubt MS's Rare can.

jaymacx1781d ago

I agree... I don't mind when characters get new looks to keep things fresh but it has to be an improvement and not a downgrade. On another note I don't like the art direction for the new BattleToads game either.

After how poorly received Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolt was and how underwhelming Sea of Thieves ended up being after such a long development time does anybody really have any faith in modern Rare making another Banjo-Kazooie game as great as the originals?

Not even Yookah-Laylee is as great as the franchise it was inspired by, and Playtonic looks more devoted to that style of game than modern Rare.

Neonridr1782d ago

maybe MS could talk to Nintendo to see if they have any spare teams who could help make a new game. That would be an amazing collaboration.

TK-661782d ago

I don't think Nintendo is the sort that'd be willing to put a team to work on a rivals console. We're not even sure if MS is willing to do that yet.

I say put Rare to work on a SP platformer thats a new IP and see what they come up with. Give them the same sort of freedom MS is claiming to be giving to their new studios and I'm sure the studio will come up with something great.

FallenAngel19841782d ago

Nintendo barely even makes 3D platformers of non-Mario games nowadays. It’s really doubtful they’d collaborate on a BK game when they don’t haven’t even made 3D platformers of their other franchises outside of Mario for over a decade.

Neonridr1782d ago

perfect excuse to start again, no?

FallenAngel19841782d ago (Edited 1782d ago )

That’s not sound logic. Nintendo has always had plenty of non-Mario franchises to make 3D platform installments in for such a long time. Why would they just suddenly start making one for a franchise they don’t even own?

This is as ridiculous as the people asking for Nintendo to make a Mega Man game after the character was included in SSB4. Nintendo doesn’t just collaborate on dormant franchises just because a character was included a SSB title.

Nintendo doesn’t even apply that principle to its own dormant franchises. Captain Falcon has been a mainstay since the beginning of the series and people identify the character more for his SSB incarnation than his own series, yet Nintendo doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to make a new F-Zero title anytime soon. You also don’t see a localized Mother 3 or new games in the Ice Climber, Game & Watch, Wii Fit, or Punch Out series.

The only time a new game was created in a dormant series directly because of a character’s inclusion in SSB was Kid Icarus: Uprising & that only happened because Sakurai was in charge. The localization of Mother 1 & the rest of the Fire Emblem series is solely attributed to SSB, but this hasn’t happened a lot with other titles to make it seem like a rule rather than an exception

Sciurus_vulgaris1782d ago

I currently think the best studio to do a new Banjo (or Conker)game would be Double Fine. Double Fine is wrapping up Psychonauts 2 and has plenty of experience with platformers, plus they're now first party.

FallenAngel19841782d ago

@ Sci

Psychonauts 2 just got delayed to next year. I wouldn’t call that wrapping up the project, quite the opposite.

Rare is also a first party developer, so being one wouldn’t make Double Fine anymore eligible for the series. Plus it doesn’t seem likely Double Fine could produce a better successor to Banjo-Kazooie than devoted ex-Rare devs could.

EdMcGlone1782d ago

I'd argue for Double Fine taking it on.

gam3r_4_lif31781d ago

Yeah anyone who played N and Bolts has faith it was a great game with some cool ideas

Mega Man’s inclusion in SSB4 didn’t prompt Capcom to make a new Mega Man game. They only started developing Mega Man 11 after seeing the sales of Mega Man: Legacy Collection exceeded their expectations.

Simon & Richter Belmont’s inclusion in SSBU didn’t prompt Konami to release a new Castlevania game. The only they’ve done since is rerelease classic titles in the series because that’s all they can ever do these days.

Rare Replay wasn’t a huge seller, so it’s doubtful that Microsoft is in as huge a rush to revitalize a lot of the franchises included in the package that wouldn’t prove to be really successful titles. Rare itself doesn’t even seem interested in revitalizing it’s own classic franchises, prefering to just outsource it to other developers.

RosweeSon1781d ago

They should have done it when Yooka Laylee was released or at least started something.
They could see the buzz and interest around that sure that game didn’t quite pull it off but Microsoft could have gone yeah well we down Banjo3, no nuts and bolts Included, not like they couldn’t do with a decent platformer of their own, they got halo and forza, well about 6-7 of each but couldn’t or didn’t think a banjo3 would be a good idea. They too interested in hardware and services that can be sold via subscriptions Xbox live gamepass

CyrusLemont1781d ago

Would kill for a next-gen Pixar like Banjo Kazooie reboot, no Nuts & Bolts crap. No blocky designs! Make it bigger with more secrets, everything to scale and no load screens would be amazing. Imagine flying over the barriers around spiral mountain to go wherever you want! Treasure Trove Cove could be an ongoing pirate battle (Sea Of Thieves references galore) etc.

I want it now!

FinalBoss276d ago

Art of Fighting...We are going to have a Fatal Fury, we can have hope for this one too :)

Number1TailzFan276d ago

I only had the CD version of Final Fight but yeah great game, great music. Challenging too.

The Desert/Jungle Strike games need to return too.

Asplundh276d ago (Edited 276d ago )

I remember playing Clay Fighters a lot, honestly it wasn't great and it got worse with each sequel.

Snookies12276d ago

Bushido Blade needs to be on that list of fighters!

Terry_B276d ago

I agree, but Bloody Roar is higher in my priority lol..due to that already super fun indie fighting game hellish Quart which is still on early access

Onimusha and Legacy of Kain! Excellent choice.
I would add Shenmue indeed.

gold_drake276d ago

breath of fire

shadow hearts / koudelka
dot hack series.

and many more u cant think of right now haha

FinalFantasyFanatic275d ago

Maybe Shadow Hearts/Koudelka can make a return now that Penny Blood is in the works (worked for 100 Heroes/Suikoden).

I'd really like them to do a Dot Hack compilation/quadrillion pack, and having Breath of Fire return would be good too, it didn't deserve to go out with a whimper (I'm talking about that mobile game they made for it).

gold_drake275d ago (Edited 275d ago )

haha you dont need to clarify your points, i know xD

i know theres a .hack project on the way, but no one really knows what it is. from qhat ive just read, the vice Pres. of CC2 wants a remake of the four games, but Bandai holds the licensing and hasnt given the greenlight for it.

and yehz bof didnt deserve the the ceap games at the end

RaidenBlack276d ago

Quake (not including the re-releases)
F.E.A.R
TimeSplitters
Hexen
Brothers in Arms
Bad Company
Resistance
Legacy of Kain
Midnight Club
Burnout
... many more

porkChop276d ago

The Legend of Dragoon
Infamous
Heretic/Hexen
Sleeping Dogs
Midnight Club
Scarface
Lost Odyssey
Syphon Filter
Red Faction
Snatcher

shinoff2183276d ago

Porkchop you probably know already but did you know they worked on a scarface 2.

porkChop275d ago

Yeah I've seen footage of it. Activision cancelled it after they bought Sierra. I still think that's crazy. Scarface was successful enough that Sierra planned on making Scarface 2, 3, 4, etc. It's wild that Activision would just cancel it like that.

A New Banjo-Kazooie Game Is Exactly What We Need Right Now

Dave writes, "Banjo-Kazooie is a perfect franchise to bring back. Re-jigging it for modern consoles or creating a sequel will breathe life into a beloved series that has brought joy to millions of gamers for the last 25 years."

A new Conker would be nice too, and a new Diddy Kong Racing would make a nice change as well over the standard racers like Mario Kart.

Sonyslave3306d ago

Toy n bob can probably do since rare don't want too.

VincentVanBro306d ago

I’ve been waiting my whole life for another banjo kazooie sequel! Imagine a new entry with all of the ingenuity and new ideas they would have after modern platformers like Mario Odyssey

maniacmayhem306d ago

We had one with Yooka Laylee and it was trash and hardly anyone bought it. Let the nostalgia die, as much as I like platformers, we don't need another Banjo Kazooie, the game was mid at best.

Christopher306d ago

I'm of like mind. I think the appeal that we might have had for these games was a bit more nostalgic and that the advancement of the industry has led people further away from Banjo and more towards Fortnite and the like. People still enjoy the game, but it's a niche market because the industry moved on to other things.

Retroman305d ago

Industry moved on to other things. Such as??? Same boring open world shooters again and again and again and again same damn format with different titles. Same Damn shit since 2006 either military style fps or Viking solider, riding on horses, driving around with a car, sailing in a ship, to much Unnecessary exploring, to much side quest etc.
My Personal Opinion they all feel the same boring.

Christopher305d ago

Sorry Retroman, no individual controls the direction of the industry. It is what it is because people spoke with their wallets.

Number1TailzFan305d ago

Completely agree Retroman, most games today are simply better looking versions of the same stuff, recycled over and over. When they do something new, like for example Half Life 2 did in 2004 with the physics and very interactive world, it was fresh and exciting. Now many games take what came before and update the graphics and that's about it, or sometimes have less stuff than in the previous games even.

--Onilink--305d ago (Edited 305d ago )

Well that doesnt mean a good one cant be made.
Nintendo has continued to great make 3D Platformers, while not exactly the same Ratchet is not an entirely different genre either. Psychonauts 2 was great as well.
There is potential for a good Banjo game with the right developer.
That said, within MS probably only Double Fine or Toys for Bob I think could pull it off, Rare should stay far away from it, they are a very different team now

DarkZane305d ago

Just give up, leave Banjo-Kazooie in the past. They will never be able to recreate what made it and Banjo-Tooie good on N64 today, especially not by being owned by Microsoft.

purple101305d ago

The glory days of 007 Goldeneye ( with rumble Pak)

Perfect dark with ram expansion card.(but only really for 4 controller multiplayer )

Diddy kong racing & banjo

Those were all gems I miss those times, but let them go. Re-visiting your childhood is never as good as you think.
