Microsoft stole Sony's thunder with that shocking Phantasy Star Online 2 localization announcement

Chris Carter: "And for seven long years we've been waiting for Sega to announce a localization of Phantasy Star Online 2, which happened today thanks to Microsoft. This totally would have been a Sony thing to do during their conference given that PSO 2 has been out on Vita since 2013 and PS4 since 2016. But Sony isn't at E3 this year.

Instead, the madmen at MS pulled it off. The free-to-play Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to PC and Xbox One in 2020 with cross-play. Mic drop."

That "mic drop" was met with golf claps from an unimpressed audience. Shocking? Come on.

It is a bit sad that a years old f2p mmo is the hilight of their show.

bouzebbal1788d ago (Edited 1788d ago )

Destructoid? Seriously??!
Phantasy Star? Lol
About time, people have been asking for it for ages, and not many are excited about this anymore

cellfluid1788d ago

Actually the height of their show was keanu lol this was a terrible conference..

Unspoken1787d ago

I bet most of the folks that complain they can't play a game wouldn't buy it in the first place. But I sense more sour grapes than anything else.

Shiken1788d ago

How do you steal thunder from someone that is not even there?

What a dumb title...

trooper_1788d ago

Journalism gets stupider by the day...

jjb19811788d ago

LMAO at "Golf claps". That definitely was no Happy Gilmore clap.

rainslacker1788d ago

Usually these kinds of thunder stealing moments are with games that are highly anticipated, or heavily requested by a community that ends up not getting it. Final Fantasy 7 remake is a thunder stealing moment for instance.

A popular game only available in Japan, that does have a fan base outside that territory, is more of an annoyance to those who don't have the platform in question.

This same idea that it's a huge get happened with PUBG. An extremely popular game on PC, which console gamers almost never talked about, and PC gamers had no reason to be excited for it coming to consoles. They did that again with CrossFire X this year, and it fell pretty flat as far as I can tell. PSO isn't anywhere near those two games in terms of hype here in the west.

Plus, it's probably going to end up on PS4/5 anyways.

Must be hard for you to read sarcasms without the /s

Potnoodle9991788d ago

Some people clearly do not get sarcasm. As it is the lowest form of wit... I’m not sure what it makes you guys for being unable to identify it?

Xavi4K1788d ago

Wayyyyy too late for this. I wanted this localized years ago, but it was apparent Sega weren't listening to what fans wanted.

FallenAngel19841788d ago

Yeah but how many Xbox gamers are actually excited about this? Most JRPGs flop on XO anyway

Codewow1788d ago

Microsoft has been trying to get Japanese developers on board with them for quite some time. They’ll take whatever they can get.

RememberThe3571788d ago

They did great in the 360 days getting japanese devs on board but the games just didn't sell well enough and both the devs and MS focused on other areas. It's kinda sad and kinda stupid, but it is what it is.

TheRacingX1788d ago

I guess the fanboys think you're lying about wanting to play this.... this site is a pathetic fanboy wankfest

Immorals1788d ago

That's why I don't use this site much anymore.

But I used to loooove pso back on the gamecube and have a fair few friends that I used to play with that can't wait for pso2. I'd given up hope of ever having a localisation and had kinda forgotten about it, so this was a really nice surprise

BlackTar1871788d ago

you used to love this site when it was overrun by 360 people?

darthv721788d ago

I loved PSO on DC and GC and even PS Universe on the 360 so I'm looking forward to this one.

WoW is a mess and it will continue to be a mess. Still, the less-developed MMOs are going to have trouble gaining a fan base because they lack content right now. Even if people do flock to FF14 or BDO, they'll go back to WoW if they fix enough features or give players a shred of hope.

The Best MMOs For When You Finally Quit World of Warcraft

Didn't know people still played this game

Jiub994d ago

Fewer people for certain but still a lot of people.

gleepot994d ago

Nah, I'll keep playing the game with the millions of other people. The writing on the wall says "game is not dead" even though people have claimed it is for 15 years.

Jiub994d ago

I'd guess that people are going to filter out but then come back for the next expac when the turmoil is over. I do worry about content delays, though.
