Microsoft Are Poised To Steal The Show

E3 2018 was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Microsoft may have had a fantastic briefing, but one could argue that a lot of the big hitting announcements (studio acquisitions, the vague promise of new hardware) were really just laying the foundation for this years event. The rest of the show was quite underwhelming. Sony’s conference was poorly paced, and also felt a bit light on content. Perhaps it’s for the best that they’re taking a pass this time around. EA were a hot mess of non announcements and tone deaf monologues, Ubisoft totally dropped the ball with an excessively padded show, and Bethesda and Nintendo were very middle of the road. So, as we approach E3 2019, it seems the only way is up, and Microsoft is poised to smash it.

Steal the show? The competition isn’t even showing up. Lol

NecrumOddBoy1824d ago

Xbox will destroy Xbox then I guess🤷🏻‍♂️

PowerOfTheCloud1824d ago (Edited 1824d ago )

That already has been done a few years ago lol

rainslacker1823d ago

Sometimes, companies, like people, can be their own worst enemy.

RizBiz1823d ago

@Power Last year, in fact, when they completely destroyed any semblance of hype they had left for the rest of this generation by announcing a replacement for the XBoner.

JTGA1824d ago

I suppose that depends on how you define the competition. I think Nintendo are still a big enough player to warrant the comparison. Still, Sony not being there does give MS a nice piece of the pie.

Deep down I still think PlayStation might drop some huge release date news for TLOU: Part 2 and / or Ghost of Tsushima in an attempt to steal their thunder.

TheColbertinator1824d ago

Deep down? I wonder what happened to that game.

JTGA1824d ago

Did it get officially cancelled?

1824d ago
porkChop1824d ago

@Hentai

Sony wasn't publishing Deep Down. That was Capcom.

And Sony has closed down quite a few studios during the past two generations, as has every publisher.

Bennibop1824d ago

I think Sony not being there is a problem for Microsoft and other publishers, it will lower the amount watching.

Godmars2901824d ago

Isn't - wasn't? - Deep Down largely mostly Capcom?

No Way1824d ago

I really hope to get some information about Ghost of Tsushima soon. Game looks fantastic.

thejigisup1823d ago

If Sony/Capcom announces news of Deep Down during Microsoft's conference they'll steal the show

Segata1823d ago (Edited 1823d ago )

Deep Down is dead dead dead dude. The engine was a mess and they abandoned it. RE Engine was born out of it. You can read about it just go look it up. Resetera had some people talking about it.

Ubisoft is mostly copy and paste with their games and refuse to do sequels unless they get to change them so much into new IPs disguised at successful established ones because they don't like to take as many risks now

EA is...well EA. You can bet your arse EA Sports will bore the shit out of us once again, Jedi Fallen Order seems to be the only worthy thing

Square Enix is basically "Hey look at all these pretty games you'll be seeing again and again for the next 3-5 E3's as they take ages to finish"

Bethesda usually has a few decent games but the main things they have coming up, Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein, we already knew about from last years conference. What else have they got to surprise us with? Todd will probably take stage and give us a load of bullshit about Fallout 76.

Nintendo just have their direct but the big hitters we know will be shown we, once again, learnt about last year. Have they really got any more surprises left in them? Luigis Mansion 3, Smash Bros Updates, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Animal Crossing, Zelda Link's Awakening, maybe something on Metroid Prime 4.

Which leaves us Microsoft

Microsoft will show off most of the multiplatform games coming out between the Xbox, PS4 and PC, will show us the next instalments of Halo, Gears, Forza, Fable etc and will most likely have a few surprises here along the way. They are most likely going to take this by default.

JTGA1824d ago

I think every major company, even EA, have the opportunity to surprise us. This is E3 baby!

LOGICWINS1824d ago

I'm still anticipating Nintendo's conference over Microsoft's. I already know their Direct will be chock full of single player exclusives.

starchild1824d ago

Ubisoft is my favorite third party publisher. I don't think your characterization is accurate. I have played every entry in series like Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed and they have evolved as much as any other long running series I have played.

Saigon1823d ago (Edited 1823d ago )

I was up with you on this post until you said MS wins by default. Ugh...no, not by default. If they win it because they show us all something worthwhile. We all have been clamoring to try to figure out what MS will show due to the studio acquisitions. Because it is still a guessing game with them, they do not win just for showing up. I honestly don't want to see a gang of 3rd Party games from them, I want to see a reason for hope, first or 2nd party studio games that are worth the attention.

@Jin_Sakai

"Steal the show? The competition isn’t even showing up. Lol"

Their loss. Let Microsoft and Nintendo run the show. ;)

Xavi4K1824d ago

Even if sony was there they won’t win thats why hey decide not to come you can’t keep showing the same games and a man playing on instruments for four years in a row.

Godmars2901824d ago

Get it given to them in a bow then?

Kaedro1824d ago Show
starchild1824d ago

I guess for someone whose whole existence is tangled up in silly console wars it might seem that way. In reality many publishers and developers show up to E3. So, yes, it is possible Microsoft could have the most exciting presence at E3.

King_Noctis1824d ago

I think you misunderstood the context here.

Smokehouse1824d ago

Yes they were given the show. Harakiri!

rainslacker1823d ago (Edited 1823d ago )

Easy to steal stuff when the owner isn't home.

I guess it's lucky Sony has a security system provided by social media.

UnholyLight1823d ago

The fact that you can get that many upvotes for a comment like that is insane honestly. Xbox is gonna HAVE to come out swinging at E3...they will show up. They HAVE to. That is good for all gamers on all sides of the fence, fierce competition is what we WANT.

Don't underestimate the other third party publishers.

JTGA1824d ago

Agreed. I reckon Ubisoft will have a good showing this year, although the lack of Beyond Good and Evil 2, and their constant leaks, are disappointing.

rainslacker1823d ago

Eh, do we ever really count them in "who won" conversations?

FallenAngel19841824d ago

Sure but many of its titles will still be multiplats so it’s a meaningless win

JTGA1824d ago

I think this year we're going to see a lot of exclusives. Even just logo teases for stuff from some of their newly acquired studios.

1824d ago
ShadowWolf7121824d ago

"Exclusives"

lol they're hitting PC, bro. They're not exclusives.

Thundercat771824d ago

Sony is not there so this is the only way they could steal the show.

thexmanone1824d ago

Well if Sony had the money for the flute player, They may would of been there.

RangerWalk2671823d ago

Sony doesn't have the money to waste on showing the same games again. It showed the same games the past two years

Why Microsoft Putting Black Ops 6 On Game Pass Is The Ultimate Test

By putting Black Ops 6 on Game Pass, Microsoft plans to gauge its growth, pricing, and monetization changes, at the cost of less game sales.

rlow15h ago

If they have follow up games that are bangers, then this strategy will work. But if it’s Call of Duty followed another dead period then it won’t last.

crazyCoconuts2h ago

From MS financial perspective I think it may be the opposite.
A year of GamePass on PC is less than the price of two full price games. For all the people that would have bought COD for $70 but instead started subbing for GP, MS will get an extra $50/year which is good.
However, for each banger that MS puts out, that's lost potential revenue because the GP sub won't need to buy it.
So it only makes sense where the new GP customers would have otherwise not spent more money with MS... Which is the case if MS puts out low quality shovelware.

rlow141m ago

If you’re looking at the short term you are correct. But if Xbox can have multiple bangers then subscriptions should increase. Which is what they want, recurring revenue.

Sonic18812h ago

I don't see it working if Call of Duty makes less money and profits over time from gamepass 🤔

blackblades1h ago

I dont understand why have it on it when we all know it sells with the name alone. Seems stupid to lose so much sales and $ just to have it on game pass. They basically shooting themselves in the foot with a already injured foot from all the other times they shoot themselves in the foot.

CrashMania51m ago

@blackblades, that's my exact point, even on xbox where most software sells poorly CoD still sells millions, but the thing is, if you don't put it on GP you kinda shatter the whole idea they've build GP up to be, they've dug this hole themselves.

I think it might tick up subscribers a bit, but warzone is already free and gets millions of players regardless of GP. But where will those extra subs come from? Xbox sales are dropping like a rock, PC gamers are very firmly rooted in Steam and will just buy it there.

Tacoboto13m ago

@black

If they don't include it on Game Pass, they lose the claim of First-Party Day-One on Game Pass, and thus would begin the slippery slope of what's-ok-to-not-include and the devaluing of the service, and further sinking Microsoft/Xbox's already tarnished reputation.

Stuck between a rock and a hard place and this move buys them time to work out more future-math.

Garethvk4h ago

When the game does not hit 1 Billion in revenue in under two weeks they will wonder why and the next thing you know; Season Updates will no longer be free.

Noskypeno3h ago

Yup, the CEO needs a new yacht and private jet

Abear2159m ago

Yeah I expect paid DLC and season pass in your face, now you are buying for a game you are renting

purple1013h ago

subscribers go up, execs celebrate win, get bonus, price goes up, subscribers go down,

execs dont care, got their bonus,

MrDead2h ago

If it works CEOs and shareholders get a payday and if it doesn't even more studios get closed by MS so CEOs and shareholders get a payday.

Elda1h ago

It will sell on PC & PS but as long as COD is for rent on Gamepass it will not sell well on the XB platform. Most folks such as myself that like COD just for the campaign would rather rent it for that month instead of paying $70 plus tax for the game.

IAMRealHooman1h ago

Your smart.
its 70 for base plus 10 to 20 for a season pass plus another 30 for there better season pass,

darthv721h ago

...now you are finally getting how to use GP. No commitments, just play what is offered. if you like it so much and want to keep a copy for yourself... you can buy it when you want to. I used to buy games based on if they looked appealing and have been burned many times on things. With this, I can try before I buy. And I have actually bought several games after having rented them in the service. It literally is like the old days of renting only you get the whole store instead of pay per rental.

Elda1h ago

I've been knowing how to use Gamepass. I sub the service yearly & I play games on the service that I don't have to pay the full price for such as Persona 3:Reload. I mostly play & pay for games on my PS5 but if a game lands on GP that I'm interested in playing & I don't have to buy a copy for the PS5 I'll definitely play it on Gamepass.

seanpitt231d 10h ago

I just cannot believe we haven't had a game from them this generation nearly 4 years in.. crazy!

Knightofelemia1d 15h ago

If the game is crap then yes there will always be negative feedback it comes with the territory. It's called word of mouth or welcome to the internet. Where the truth about a game comes out really fast whether the game is good or crap. If you can't handle the criticism because of a game then why publish the game. Why should people who never criticized or even played the game be punished? Vietnam has some really screwed up laws block Steam because they don't answer us rule. And going on a witch hunt with Steam please. Where's the proof, where's the evidence of this witch hunt. Somebody is butt hurt and has a Vietnamese Karen leading the witch hunt.
