Dauntless Is a Straight-Up Monster Hunter Clone, but It’s Better in a Lot of Ways

Greysun writes: "We can't lie: Dauntless is a one-for-one clone of Monster Hunter. Despite the similarities, the action RPG makes some changes that make it more accessible."

My only issue with the game is that some of the behemoths you fight against don't really have a creative design (some literally have the same body type like Pangar, Gnasher and Hellion). Some were pretty distinct though like Shrowd, Rezakiri and Kharabak, though most of them seem to have a body type of either a wolf or a bear. Sure, they all have different attacks but I still wished they did more with the designs other than designing differently the head.

I still like the game (coming from a MH fan) but I still kinda wished the game had more crazier monster designs.

I wish there was a monster hunter where you hunted actual monsters like from Bloodborne and Dark Souls games instead of just these majestic creatures that seem to be just minding their own business.

How can you even say that, Monster Hunter World has Monsters and Dark Souls does not have monsters. What in the fuck...

CorndogBurglar1826d ago

So you've clearly never played Monster Hunter. Otherwise you would know that the majority of the monsters in that game attack you on site. Minding their own business? Sure. Unfortunately their business is killing and eating you.

Lionsguard1826d ago (Edited 1826d ago )

I have played Monster Hunter actually. One of the quests: "Hey guy, this family of totally docile plant eaters are chilling at this beach, kill them because whatever". Jokes aside, just because creatures attack on site doesn't make them "monsters". They (the players) ARE invading their little island. It's like me showing up to the savannas of Africa to hunt Lions and they end up attacking me and killing me, that doesn't now make them "monsters". The island is an eco-system. Face it, whatever monster you kill ends up on the dinner board and chopped up by a cat while any monsters you capture get thrown into a ring so you can satiate further bloodlust in an arena.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some vegan, peta-protester, green peace idiot crying foul. I just find it dumb that these are monsters that need to be killed. I'd rather hunt actual monsters from the depths of hell or freaky Lovecraftian creatures. Not giant dragons that are just nesting. This game gave me zero reasons to actually care about killing these creatures. But I guess some people are just easily sated by the "kewl lootz".

ever played the god eater series?

Lionsguard1826d ago

I just looked that up, it seems interesting. I'm not too crazy about the whole anime look however.

I get what you're saying, just don't really agree with it.

Those docile monsters you're talking about aren't the monsters. They are basically the cattle of the game. Its no different than us humans hunting deer for food.

And your comparison about the lions in Africa isn't really the same thing either. In Monster Hunter you are inhabiting a new place to live. Expanding society. So naturally giant man-eating creatures need to be removed.

I understand though. Demons from hell and actual "evil" beings are more interesting to you as enemies nd there's nothing wrong with that at all.

PMind1826d ago

If you bothered to read the lore, for what it is, these creatures, while minding their own business, are feeding off of Aether which is what holds the world together and keeps everything alive. They are basically getting high on the stuff and becoming so powerful that they collectively threaten to tear everything apart. You are balancing things out. On that note, I wish there as more creatures other than just the one behemoth chilling by itself. Some minions or random stuff other than just a stray deer or whatever. (I haven't played since beta so no idea of this has happened)

MH world is a menu simulator with $hit controls compared to Dauntless. IMO

Edito1826d ago

Am I the only one who fully agrees with you? I like MH the idea and the concept but I just can't play it because of those stupid menus and controls... Sorry the game is phenomenal but I don't have access to all of its greatness...

AK911826d ago

That is debatable Dauntless is easily a cheaply made cash grab version of MHW, don't get me wrong it isn't a bad game itself but I'm a quality over quantity kind of guy.

BlackDoomAx1826d ago

It's just MHW for the audience of fortnite.

not interested in this clone. come back when you created something worth the while.

A Late Look: Monster Hunter: World

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "While it was a mixed pleasure overall - at times exhilarating, at others agonizing - I would have to say I enjoyed my time with Monster Hunter: World and found it to be surprisingly addicting. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that I was surprised by how little had changed from previous titles, given how this particular entry took the series to unheard levels of popularity, but while it retains both positives and negatives from them, at the very least it’s a stellar-looking game that brings more freedom to the hunt than any of its predecessors (Monster Hunter Rise could possibly be a different story, but that, my friends, is a game for another article)."
