They are the only ones there so I hate to spoil your attempt at drama, but the win/lose game is going to be very anti-climatic.

darthv721838d ago

Nintendo is supposed to be there this year.

monochromer1837d ago

Nintendo isn't really a direct competitor to Sony and Microsoft. They've said so themselves.

1837d ago
Fluttershy771837d ago

Nintendo was there last year and it was laughable... Nintendo doesn't care about these events, they prefer to promote through Direct. Perfectly fine by me

Ratchet751837d ago

They do not have a keynote, just a digital presentation.

WhiteyFox1836d ago

They are but they won't do a live conference like Microsoft will(?)

Knushwood Butt1836d ago

So who are they competing with then?

Mobile casuals?

Xavi4K1837d ago

nintendo is there, EA is there, Ubisoft is there and Bethesda is there....honestly even if sony was there this year they will lose to Microsoft because they got nothing new to show.

Oreic1837d ago

Ummm, if we knew about it it wouldn't be new...

Ozzy24071837d ago

EA won't be on the show floor they are hosting a external EA Play event and they are not having a press conference. Also Activision won't have a booth but will be holding private meetings.

Darkborn1837d ago

Sony has already announced a couple new games before e3 and they have more current games being developed. Sony likes to spread out their releases and gameplay videos, Microsoft buys a game and immediately shouts from rooftops.

blacktiger1837d ago

last year sony had nothing new, still Microsoft is losing,

FanboySpotter1836d ago

Shawn himself did say they had nothing new to show this year so i don't get the downvotes

Knushwood Butt1836d ago

EA and Bethesda?

The playoffs to decide who comes last?

gamer78041836d ago

yah this time around I'd agree, if they had something big they would be at e3. I'm guessing they'll be at the next e3 to show off the ps5. Between the console manufacturers microsoft has already won this e3 by default.

Btw Microsoft won E3 2018
And Sony was there
we saw acquisitions
Gears 5 , Halo infinite
Battletoads , Ori2 ,plus establishing new studio the Initiative
And i think they will win this E3 too.

jmetalhead778121837d ago

Spot on. MS had a great showing last year and I feel they will blow off the doors of last years show. I’m not going to sit here and say they “won” because I didn’t watch any of the other shows nor do I care. But, as an Xbox fan it was a great show

remixx1161837d ago

Now I have to disagree, both sucked in my opinion, in fact all 3 sucked as all ninty showed was smash. Ms showed nothing we didn't already know game wise, I mean really...more Halo gears Forza plus multiplats. Halo was practically just filler as it's next gen. The studio acquisitions are great but is it really a haymaker to say hey guys we finally are gonna try to give you games!!, Hell Sony just built a new studio and there's rumored to be 2 more coming after that one that are still in building stages. Sony sucked cuz the presentation was just ass and really drawn out with a bunch of filler and literally no news. I mean damn it was boring

Sunny_D1837d ago

The showing of TLOU2 and Ghost of Tshushima was way better than what MS could ever show. I agree the show format from Sony was atrocious.

pwnmaster30001837d ago (Edited 1837d ago )

So they showed what everyone expected gaming wise. They had really shitty E3 the years before that, so they can only go up from there. I will agree that the studio was really awesome and suprising, but the majority of games they showed was all multiplat.

Mircrosoft is literally going up against them self this year. I don’t see them disappointing at all. I am looking forward to seeing what new exclusive games they have coming out and also the new multiplat they will be showcasing.
With Sony not there, Microsoft can’t win anything. Nintendo has its own category that Sony and Microsoft can’t touch and that’s not downplaying any of the companies.

snoopgg1837d ago

Microsoft won e3 2018, we all see how this generation of console sales are going for them.

rainslacker1837d ago (Edited 1837d ago )

I think Sony won on content. Their presentation sucked though....at least the whole start of it, and that segways. Ms presentation was pretty dull overall, bit they did have a few highlights. If I had to judge either, I'd say that they were both pretty lackluster.

Cmoney0071836d ago

MS had a good conference last year, but what has been the result after that? Not much at all.

Knushwood Butt1836d ago

'I think' you wasted your money on an X.

If they actually lost e3, then that's just sad. I mean, it's worse than coming in third at a 3 person race.

I can't imagine which could disrupt e3 discourse though. Itd have to be pretty big, and if it's not scandalous, I wouldn't actually respect any company taking that much focus away from e3. E3 still has its place, and I prefer to let as many shine as possible. They pay a lot to be there, and it's only fair they have their time in the spotlight.

I think one reason both Sony and Nintendo decided to not do e3 anymore was because they had to share attention. Even if both got plenty of it, there are just more economical ways to get attention, and there is less chance of other stealing their thunder.

Plus, people always compare presentations, so it's impossible to announce a game, without having another game announced by a competitor also getting mentioned.

Orionsangel1837d ago

@monochromer I'm observant. Whenever Nintendo was failing Reggie in interviews would say they we don't consider Sony and MS competition. Reggie would say this during the Gamecube and Wii U years, but during the Wii years when Nintendo was doing amazing. Reggie in interviews would proudly explain why Nintendo is beating Sony and MS. It's PR Bullsh*t!

DigitalRaptor1838d ago (Edited 1838d ago )

I'm looking forward to it, sincerely.

Partly to see what their first-party studios have managed to put together so far, partly to see the xCloud thing promises they'll be making, partly to see what their next gen console might offer so I know what ballpark the PS5 will be in, and partly to see what multiplatform games to look forward to.

Their last E3 was strong in terms of content, this could be better. However, they'll have all eyes on them early June so there will be more pressure to deliver and bear the weight alone that Sony and others normally do.

yellowgerbil1837d ago (Edited 1837d ago )

Damn that's a long name, I've seen hyphenated names but 2 paragraphs! I'm just gonna call you Bob

StrengthInNumbers1837d ago

MS may appear to be alone but they won't be. Nintendo will most likely hold an E3 themed Direct. Sony will attempt to steal thunder too with an E3 themed State of Play. You really think they'll let MS hug all the spotlight? Nope.

That said, I believe MS will have a fantastic E3 Conference.

ziggurcat1837d ago

"Microsoft is primed to dominate discourse this E3."

well... that's easy to do when your competitors don't have presentations scheduled...

alb18991837d ago

Well.....is that MS's problem?
If you have a rival and he doesn't show up to the fight he loses is that simple.

Rude-ro1837d ago (Edited 1837d ago )

Loses what?
What does e3 bring anymore that warrants a company to spend the money to do e3?
There is no other media that covers gaming.
There is no growth of consumer information.
Announce something right now, it will get as much coverage as it would e3.

alb18991837d ago (Edited 1837d ago )

Rude-ro don't get mad at me. E3 is the most important event in the video game industry and I don't know why you think that E3 is over now......or wait....just because Sony doesn't have enough new content to show now E3 is not worthy.......fans
A bad announcement at E3 can condemned a brand. This Generation was lost at the E3.....the confusion that MS xboxone brought and the price of the PS4 on the same E3.....come on, stop being so blind fans
E3 is very important.

rainslacker1837d ago (Edited 1837d ago )

You can't really lose if you don't fight. This isn't Sony losing by default, they just never set up the fight in the first place. MS and Sony compete all the time, and they'll fight it out all year long.

‘Hellblade 2’ Launches As The 23rd Most-Played Xbox Game, What Does That Mean?

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 launched last week to solid reviews from both fans and players. But its playercount? That's another story.

helicoptergirl8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

That's awful. This combined with the really low Steam numbers paint a disastrous picture imo. Really bad timing too because Tango was closed down for a similar thing. Great reviewed game, and low sales and/or player count. Hi-Fi Rush reviewed a hell of a lot better and it was widely loved by everyone, Hellblade 2 nowhere near that.

I know the rumor is that the studio has their next game already green-lit, but if I worked at Tango, I would be furious. "Why do they survive while we get binned?" I'd be telling myself.

But the suit woman will have you believe "Oh we have different metrics for the success of one studio compared to another studio. We judge each studio and game on their own set criteria" or something like that, I'm paraphrasing here but you get the idea. But no one who works there knows what the hell that even means. I mean the DLC for Redfall was getting worked on days before they even got the news their studio was getting dumped in the trash. So what are these mysterious metrics to let studios survive and others perish? I bet this is all hogwash, I bet MS don't even really know. They just had to make cuts and certain studios just found their way on the chopping block. Someone had to bite the dust, why not you?

Well I bet all this does nothing for the confidence of other employees in other studios. The truth is you have no idea where your career will be in a year from now working at one of their studios that aren't the mega big ones. MS just have too many studios to manage efficiently. "We'll just throw money at them and buy them and worry about the details later on. I mean we can do it, we're Microsoft."

darthv727h ago

...have you seen what the top 10 consists of? Its things like fortnite, roblox, CoD, apex... etc. This being a new game that has a niche appeal is actually surprising to see at 23. Its also the 33rd top paid game on the PC through the MS store.

tay87017h ago

Those are dreadful numbers any way you slice it dude. They hyped this game to hell for the last 4 plus yrs. It was supposed to be xboxs big game this yr. Ninja Theory is probably sweating right now.

Scissorman6h ago

And it's already slipped out of the Top 100 on Steam. Meanwhile a port of the 4-year old Ghost of Tsushima is sitting comfortably at #8.

RiseNShine6h ago

One of the biggest games of the year, a multi million sequel and heavily advertised game, at 23 most played? There's no way to justify those numbers.

darthv726h ago

^^heavily advertised game...?

I mean, I knew the game was coming but outside of a boot screen ad for it, there has been little to no marketing. And yet it still managed 23rd. Make of that what you will.

Elda5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Here in the East Coast on NY/NJ on cable tv Hellblade 2 has been advertised pretty well. I see the commercials every day at least 3 times a day for the past 3 weeks. It's even advertised as YT commercials.

Chevalier4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

What an idiotic comment. Let me guess the next comment would be GTA V outsold everything so....

Absolutely terrible numbers all round for this game. Ghost of Tsushima at number 8. Good games going to sell regardless of excuses

RpgSama5h ago

What a disaster, 2 failures in a row for Ninja Theory, first Bleeding edge, now Hellblade 2, any way you slice it these are not the numbers the most awaited game of the year for Xbox should show (before Activision purchase), also player numbers is extremely low and even more surprising considering is day 1 on gamepass.

Crows901h ago

If they worked on heavenly sword instead then they would have something worth playing and waiting for... unfortunately that won't happen.

Terry_B8h ago

It means that it will be the..50th? 75th? most played xbox game in June.

CrimsonWing697h ago

That people played it 🤷‍♂️

Scissorman7h ago

If this game cost more and took longer to develop than Hi-Fi Rush, then I would worry if I were Ninja Theory. Projects may have been greenlit, but the increased scrutiny over at MS may very well put them on the chopping block. The incredible irony here is that it was PlayStation players that pushed the original game passed its 1 million copies sold milestone. With that purchasing power cut out, and the Game Pass effect having trained Xbox players to not purchase games, it seems that the sequel may have been set-up for failure.

italiangamer6h ago

And that's exactly what pisses me off about Hellblade 2 not being on PlayStation, Sony promoted the original game and I bought it basically on D1 back in the day because I liked what I saw and ended up really enjoying it!
I really hope Hellblade 2 is next on the porting list because I would buy it in a heartbeat, asshole microsoft robbed me of this game!

darthv726h ago

Just get an xbox. Then it will be YOU that is robbing Microsoft. Gamepass is a hell of a deal and an addictive one at that.

AndrewM6h ago

No darth, buying an Xbox only helps xbox lol he can play gamepass on com if he wants to take advantage of them destroying themselves.
