Fluid Entertainment Launches Green-Themed Emerald Island

WorldsinMotion: "Developer Fluid Entertainment has announced the launch of a new free-to-play (but subscription supported) kid-orientated MMO, Emerald Island.

As has become recently quite fashionable in the MMO space, Emerald Island is a 'green'-themed virtual world (hence the name, I guess-because it's not set in Ireland, anyway) and players are tasked to save Emerald Island from "environmental destruction" from the 'Pirat invaders.' That's not a typo, by the way-the enemies actually are called "Pirat"s, because they're sort of half-pirate, half-rat creatures."

CSM: Emerald Island Review

Most quests have an ecology message, and the economy within the game requires you to plant a garden, so kids will learn about ecological issues and how to grow different kinds of plants by playing the game. During the weeks surrounding Earth Day (April 22), in-game actions of planting trees results in real world actions of tree planting by Trees For The Future, so kids can do good in the real world by playing this game. While still a little buggy, this is an MMO that kids ages 6-12 will enjoy.
