Predator Hunting Grounds Announced For 2020 - State Of Play

From PSU: "Predator Hunting Grounds has officially been announced for PlayStation 4. It is an asynchronous online multiplayer game where one person plays as the Predator and has to take out a group of soldiers."

I was excited when I saw this, but then found out it’s the devs behind the Friday the 13th game, which let’s be honest has a good amount of issues going for it

I’ll wait and see since Sony has their hands on this, just an odd decision though

Man, I thought of this concept a few years ago when talking to a friend about how theres no good Predator games. I said that if they made a multiplayer game similar to Evolve (without the BS), where 4 players would play as commandos/soldiers trying to reach a goal, while an OP predator stalked them through the trees, if handled correctly, could make for an awesome game. And here it is. Guess the gaming gods heard my prayers. You're welcome guys. Lol. Fingers crossed this turns out good.

I'm not a mp guy, but that is a phenomenal idea for an asymmetrical mp game. Bravo for Sony taking a bite on something out of their comfort zone.

This is good news to me. They need to bring back Multiplayer modes for their games more often. Many of the PS3 titles had great MP that often got overlooked because of COD. I will always hate COD for making Starcraft MP fall off everyone’s radar... At least TLoU MP lived and man it is still my most fav MP ever

And I said more Multiplayer “MODES,” not MP only GaSS crap.

Mp has always been cool. But not when these company focus on it like way ms does it "free 2 play style" with releasing empty alpha state games where we have to wait for content way after release.
If sony would release a mp game more often it would be great imo.

It's easy to update a game with "free content" when you release it barebones like sea of thieves for example.

How do i prove your point? Where do i say mp games suck in general?
I'm mainly a sp guy so if it would be "either or" i pick sp over mp anyday.

That being said, i like great mp experiences. But i don't like what these companies are trying to do with mp games. Releasing them with no content, fill them with microtransactions, you know that whole gaas thing turns me off.

If they release a game with mp mode which has a decent amount of content(maps, unlockables etc) and it does try to force you to buy sh!t with unbearable grinding and it has great gameplay AND they support it later on with content, then it is fine.

But i will never support full price games with f2p model like it is fashionable these days. No sea of thieves, star wars bf, anthem and all that othe garbage for me!

Oh, like almost all MS games, gotcha. From your original reply you made it sound like all MS games had your idea of the f2p model.

Well hopefully Sony also doesn't go this route you hate with MP games, especially with Sony wanting an increase focus in MP because then who knows what you'll want to support if that happens.

Is the concept too hard to grasp that i rather want quality mp, with alot of content over the shallow ones that try to milk gamers for cosmetics and/ or release with no content at all? As a gamer, PAYING for alpha or beta stage games doesn't make you sick? If it doesn't well, ok. But i won't support it, no matter if sony, ea, ms or anyone else does it.

Great mp always been cool, so i have no idea what you are on about. But i rather play no mp games at all instead of wasting my time with crappy games, on which i have to fork out money in advance in order to (maybe) get it completed by the goodwill of the devs and publishers only IF there are enough people who play it

It's Evolve with a known IP attached. It makes perfect sense actually and I can definitely see this being extremely fun to play.

The Predator has enormous potential as an in-game character. He isn't just a clumsy monster that gets bigger from eating fodder like in Evolve. The character and setting are iconic as well, this will make people care about the material. Like you said, there have been a number of asymmetrical mp games this gen and that gives Predator a chance to learn from their success and failures in order to mold the best possible game. Evolve was a blessing for this game, it was basically a free beta test. They can see what worked and ultimately what caused it to fail, and they can do it better. A better gameplay loop, higher production value, based on an iconic IP. That's the idea.

I was seriously talking about this not long ago as an idea for a Predator game.

This has a lot of potential if done right but also depends on the players. Hopefully it won't run into the same player type problems that Friday the 13th had. It really ruined a great game.

Predator as a character has more potential than Jason Voorhees imo and in Predator i assume the other players will be more offensive minded. Friday The 13th also didn't have the best production value either, i expect Predator to be a much higher quality seeing that Sony is attached to the project.

From the sound of it, it seems you'll be doing the same type of gathering tasks and trying to get out of the area while avoiding the antagonist.

It's basically the same play style as Friday the 13th, understandable since its made by the same guys.

Yeah the Predator IP is ripe for something like this. I was 7 when Predator hit theaters and it was my first movie in a theater so it's close to my heart!

I'm more of a SP guy but this is something that if done right I'll give it a go. The setting and lore would be perfect for this and there have been many Yautja throughout the films and comics to pull from.

I fucking LOVE predator. But...I just wish they would of gone the route of giving us a true single player predator game following the events of the the first 2 movies. I'm stoked this game exists, but, it could of been so much more. I mean, the asynchronous MP is done as far as I am concerned. In Friday the 13th, everyone wants to be Jason, and in this, everyone will want to be the yautja.

Yeah. We see this is coming after massive critical and commercial success of Spider-man. If you want to make decent movie franchise game, Sony WWS is the best place to rely on.

If they showed it right now, it wouldn't look anything like the final game. You don't show gameplay just to show gameplay. Wouldn't make sense.
