Persona 5: The Royal for PS4 Gets New Trailer and Screenshots: New Characters, Location, and More

Today Atlus hosted the first Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019. During the livestream they revealed a new trailer, screenshots, and a Japanese release date for the upcoming game Persona 5: The Royal.

It will be a separate game. Consider it an enhanced version of the original and as such will most likely be priced as a full game

I would have killed for that as I travel a lot for a work but I didn't get my hopes up because Persona has always been PlayStation. Even with Joker for Smash.

Its gonna come to switch. People will keep downvoting for whatever reason but if Atlus wants a portable version of P5 (and theyve made one for every game since 3) then the Switch is the only platform that makes sense. They already scaled the game down for the ps3.

The vita is pretty much on its last leg even in Japan and would take considrerably more effort to port to.

I think its a winning bet tbh.

No, like with p3fes and p4g, it will be a separate release most likely @$60. But trust me, its well worth it. These extended releases are very content heavy equalling 2-3 expansions compared to crappy short dlcs we get from other games these days. And itd be odd to have dlc come out 3yrs after its original release lol. Atlus used all that time to perfect the game even further without so much pressure of needing to release story dlc.

So it's an expanded version. I got the big collectors edition when it launched. I'm conflicted. Tho I do want to support this game more. I need to see more to decide.

I feel the same way right now especially if they are gonna charge full price for it. Kinda pisses me off that the pro performance increases are locked to the newer version too. If they don't offer it as dlc or as an upgrade to existing owners I'm probably just gonna wait until it's massively on sale. And they made it even longer which seems insane to me considering I don't think I beat it until at least 110 hours.

Can't Atlus get with the times? I may be biased as Persona 5 is easily one of my top 5 favourite games of this generation and personally rekindled my love in JRPGs but really for something like this, can't they do a simultaneous worldwide release like the other big Japanese companies do? Before I get to enjoy a localised version, this is going to be Catherine all over again with spoilers all over the internet long before I get my hands on it.

Agree, I literally shake my head over their lack of understanding this is 2019 and their games got global love. It is not just a Japanese thing. Just look for instance at their comment section for the trailer, 90% english speakers.

Like, should I be waiting to buy a Persona game because buying a game over again for full price for additional content seems kind of sketch to me.

I suppose I know what you mean. But the vanilla game itself is pretty good as is, and I’m pretty sure in this day we will most likely get a choice to pay like $30 to get it as dlc or full price for the game plus expansion. That’s my guess, we really do not know.

Remember that persona 3 and 4 are PS2 games and the most efficient way of adding a big expansion was through a re-release. DLC was a new thing and consoles didn’t have HDDs (I know Xbox did, and the ps2 had the optional one, but your typical ps2 gamer most likely didn’t own it).

I actually recall persona 3 FES was never a full price game, it was $30 as a re-release on PS2.

Yeah and P4 to P4G was ps2 to vita so it was kind of a console jump too. I really hope they do some kind of upgrade or dlc option. Like as a digital owner I can't even trade up to it or sell my copy to get the new version. Seems kinda whack they would do that to the people who originally supported the game in the first place.

Well...I've been through this enough times with three editions of Persona 3 and two of Persona 4, so Atlus can take my money again.
