Dragon's Dogma on Switch Proves We Need More PS3 and Xbox 360 Ports

If you've still somehow missed Dragon's Dogma or its complete package Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, you have another chance to play it now. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is an excellent underrated game from Capcom that originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. The title was developed by a team led by Devil May Cry steward Hideaki Itsuno, taking inspiration from western RPGs, while still providing something wholly unique. It debuted to solid sales, and since then the publisher has been steadily porting it to other platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and now Nintendo Switch.

Bring Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Bring GTA V. Bring Batman Arkham Asylum, City and Origins. Bring Borderlands. The Switch can definitely handle all of these games.

Shouldnt we just play ps3 and xbox 360 games on the old gaming systems they were released on since they run better and look better most of the time and have Nintendo focus on releasing new games on it's new console. If they were backwards compatible it would be ok but more than 80 percent of the switches library consists of old ports and Nintendo should be mainly releasing new games. Ports are ok but its ridiculous having majority old games on the switch. I've never remembered a system mostly releasing old games on it's new system. New systems will have ports but switch is a different level of having ports

Last I checked I don't feel like lugging around a PS3 or 360.

motorsport711831d ago

The Wii and the Wii U didn't get a lot of the great games the PS360 got. Now Nintendo is getting 3rd party support again. There are a lot of people who stuck with Nintendo all these years and they missed out. It's good for them to be able to play the games they missed on top of new games.

porkChop1831d ago

"since they run better and look better most of the time"

No. They don't. The Switch is more powerful than both the PS3 and 360, has 8x the RAM, and has far more efficient APIs. The games do not look or run better on the PS3 or 360.

Outlawzz1831d ago

I love all these ports. I missed lots of games last gen and now I can play them all if they get to the switch. I'm never home so these ports are amazing for me.

Cmv381831d ago

You're on a Nintendo post, how dare you use logic and reason. Playstation was releasing ports.... they caught hell. Nintendo....its okay. Everything they do is okay. Because now ports are okay.

TheFirstClassic1830d ago

Ports do not take up any of Nintendo's resources, that's not how that works. And switch ports always run better than they did last gen.

Profchaos1830d ago

Why not lots of gamers that exclusively play Nintendo consoles never got most of these games as the Wii U was a bit barren.

I never got a chance to play Kingdom of Amalur... That'd be nice on the Switch

GameBoyColor1830d ago

fantastic game actually! It'd be dope if we got a remaster.

Pedantic911831d ago

I guess as long as 3rd party ports and HW sales are continue selling likes hot cakes, Nintendo will have little to no reason to announce any major 1st party exclusives or updates fpr currently announced 1st party games that have yet to come.

I hope for news and info blowout at this years E3 atleast.

TheFirstClassic1831d ago

They don't "sell like hotcakes" only a few 3rd party games have broke a million on switch, it's nothing that would sustain a platform by itself. There's nothing with more ports, it's just supplemental.

NotoriousWhiz1830d ago

"Nintendo will have little to no reason to announce any major 1st party exclusives"

Hmm. Is your rock comfy?

"I hope for news and info blowout at this years E3 atleast. "

I prefer a hard surface, yes.

It really is underrated. I still remember the reveal trailer. Was one of the games I was most hyped about. My PS3 broke just before its release though. Was a sad time lol

Dragon's Dogma Is Still Amazing

Although the sequel is on the near horizon, the original Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen remains a fantastic action RPG, still worth playing.

A lot of the quest lines in Skyrim are good(not all and they don’t add up as a whole if you do thieves guild mage fighters guild etc) The dragons are very lame after the first few times and the combat is clunky as it always has been. The stupid sprint button is ridiculous.

Overall I agree DD is the better rpg game.

Both have theirs strengths and weaknesses but Skyrim should be so much more being the 5th game in Elder Scrolls series.

Excited to see what they add on to DD 2.

Unfortunately all they have done to Elder Scrolls since Morrowind is take things out (minus the sprint button which is so lame because you can kill dragon god like creatures but can’t run for more than ten seconds without getting tired)

anast54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

I liked the vampire questline and the return to Morrowind was okay, but the problem with Skyrim was the lack of consequence. There is almost no point in the quests. After I realized this, I started messing around with the mods and then quit playing. Though, I did spend 300 hrs. on modded content, but this is telling of how bad the game kind of is.

If DD was the size or close to the size of Skyrim, It would have been the primer fantasy game back then. I hope they up the size with DD2.

5 Games To Play While Waiting For Dragon's Dogma II

Daman Shelley from NoobFeed writes - Dragon's Dogma is truly a one-of-a-kind game, and there really is no other game like it, but there are a few that come close. Whether with their fantasy settings, the ability to climb mountains, or just with the overall same charm as Capcom’s iconic RPG. Here's a list of games that will hopefully scratch that Dragon's Dogma itch.

gold_drake104d ago

cant wait for it, feb and march are busy busy months ha.

SovereignSnaKe104d ago

I can still hear the title screen music in my head after nearly 12 years. Loved every minute of it.

MrNinosan103d ago

I have no issues filling my time til DD2.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will probably me more than enough.
More terrified I won't be done in time.

DivineHand125103d ago

Try not to burn yourself out before the game releases. This is going to be a long and immersive RPG like the first one.

The games in this article are all great and I believe the people who are excited for Dragons Dogma 2 probably already played most of those games.

For now, I recommend you prepare yourself for long play sessions if you will be picking up Dragons Dogma at launch.
