World War Z passes 1 million copies sold in a week

From VentureBeat: "Zombie games can still bring in big sales, as publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Saber Interactive announced today that their co-op shooter World War Z has passed more than 1 million copies sold since its April 16 launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It accomplished this despite not being on Steam — it’s an Epic Games Store exclusive for PC. This is a fantastic showing for Saber, the New Jersey-based studio that put out Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn and NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 last year."

That's really good to hear - especially that it's EPIC store excusive on PC. I guess people love zombie games afterall.. I thought everyone had zombie fatigue... go figure. I guess we'll see if the fatigue surfaces again when Days Gone releases on Friday!

I think one thing that helped them is having different zombie mechanics. They are fast and can climb each-other/make towers. Fun fact, the devs offered to do a multiplayer mode for Days Gone.

There was fatigue before but when was the last good zombie game? Been a while so it feels fresh again. There was a time where zombies were very oversaturated

People's penchant for getting together and shooting hordes of enemy AI hasn't waned much over the years. The way I see it, zombies themselves were never the problem. People still enjoy zombies.

I don't think there was ever traditional zombie fatigue (maybe a little) but I 'do' think people are tired of the Nazi/Zombie collaboration not just in gaming, but in culture period. 'Undead Nazis' are under the Zombie genre umbrella now, and between Call of Duty and other works of 'undead Nazi' or 'Nazi/Zombie fiction', we've definitely reached an overload point - at least I have. I really think Call of Duty played a huge role in wearing us all out.

That aside, World War Z looks good from what I've seen so far. They possibly drew a little inspiration from The Division, which isn't bad, and the way these zombies behave and 'pile on' to get to you is impressive.

I thought I was over these types of games but I might actually give this a shot.

"That's really good to hear - especially that it's EPIC store excusive on PC"

Care to explain? You actually think it's good that a game is store-exclusive?

ArchangelMike1854d ago (Edited 1854d ago )

Stop being disengenous. What is the context of the article? How many units the game sold.

Despite not being on Steam, it sold very well, presumably it would have sold more if it was also on steam.

Also you completely missed the point that I am making that despite claims of "zombie fatigue" the game is doing well.

I'm a huge fan of the World War Z universe so this is great news, I really hope Days Gone will sell great as well because I would love to see a Days Gone 2 with next gen hardware and let's be honest, Days Gone is basically based of World War Z but with "freakers".

It’s really fun! Simple and could use more content but definitely worth 40$

If wwz sold well days gone should sell even better.

Great news it shows that Nintendo intends to continue developing ports of AAA games to its next gen platform

H918h ago

Buying studios from embracer now is a great deal, they must be dirt cheap at this point, Nintendo is a opportunist, they wait until someone fall so they get their best deal

OtterX12h ago

That is some serious brain gymnastics you have going on there. 🤔

H99h ago

I didn't do any gymnastics I can assure you, honestly I don't know why you think that, not hating I seriously don't see why you think that

ZeekQuattro7h ago

Yeah I don't know where that came from. It's rare for Nintendo to flat out aquire studios. Guess they were trying to be edgy but why flex on this studio. 🤣

banger8818h ago

I hope someone buys Piranha Bytes, their future isn't looking good right now. I love their RPGs, they're janky as f***, but they have heart and soul.

Nintendo saw the Mortal Kombat 1 Switch port and were like, "Yeah, these guys are worth acquiring."

You can't make this crap up lol

Profchaos13h ago

Mortal Kombat 1 was never going to port well I'm sure they told wb it wasn't going to work but wb wants that sweet sweet 140 million install base

In the end wb approved the project cleared the milestones and allowed the product to release

SonOfOsiris9h ago

Yeah this guys ported MK11 which is great, Hogwarts Legacy which is great, and MK1 is now ok, play it every day
