Nolan North Talks Uncharted 5: “You Don’t Want to Jump the Shark”

Nolan North has spoken about the possibility of Uncharted 5 after the "final" entry in Naughty Dog's iconic series.

As much as I love the series, I feel the series closed nicely.

Now another spinoff, sure bring it on. I actually think Chloe is more "Lara Croft-ish" than Lara Croft herself in the new series. I was skeptical of her holding a game as the lead in Lost Legacy, but I thought it turned out nicely.

I'd like to see more like that, with cameos of characters... and hey, even Nathan and Elena themselves. But we kind of know how *Spoiler* their lives play out into their retirement, that their lives settled down after UC4. Now, coming out of retirement later in an older age, with their daughter? I guess that's a possibility. It would need a really strong narrative, a strong reason to pull them back in. Heck, maybe even just the kidnapping of their daughter could bring them back in. I think it needs to wait some years though. Let TLOU 2 shine, and maybe get a new IP.

We'll see. One of my favorite series of all time. We named our daughter after Elena even. (which doubles as Ellie nickname, from TLOU) If it gets done, I expect it to have a purposeful, impacting story or a solid spinoff. No rush.

A whole game of shooting tennis balls in the attic! Epic!

sander97021854d ago

I highly doubt they could beat Uncharted 4 but I would love to see them try.

killswitch801854d ago

They never did better than Uncharted 2 you mean.

SpinalRemains1381853d ago (Edited 1853d ago )

Everyone can beat Uncharted 4. It's a fairly easy game. J/k.

I actually loved the spinoff one with the women. That was loads of fun exploring. I love the little cartoon stills at the end too when the credits roll. That was a nice touch.

porkChop1855d ago

Personally I think Uncharted 4 was a good end to the series. As much as I love Uncharted I'd like a new IP from them next gen.

Jin_Sakai1855d ago

If there’s another Uncharted game it’s likely being made by the new San Diego Studio which has former Naughty Dog and Rockstar devs working there.

Agreed, good closure to the series. However, remember the charts and pics of all the ‘undiscovered’ locations eluded to? Potential adventures with their daughter Cassie?

ClayRules20121854d ago

Yeah, I agree. Uncharted 4 was a beautiful sendoff for Nathan Drake, Sully & Elena. And I very much enjoyed Sam’s role in it. I want Naughty Dog to go and make a new iP.

sprinterboy1854d ago

New ip for sure, 4 is the magic number just gets silly after that.

I'd like to see where Uncharted could go with Chloe and Nadine the two worked well in Lost Legacy. Or they could do a game with Sam and Sully I just want a new Uncharted game.

LegoIsAwesome1854d ago

Yes exactly. Just becaude Nathan story is finish doesnt mean the Uncharted is finished. Well technicaly the numbered games which is Uncharted 1 to 4 is finish. But Lost Legacy is, I think ND test market, is just beginning.

Uncharted 4 ended things on a nice note, it wouldn't be fair to spoil that

Only thing I could think of doing is have another studio create Uncharted games but set it after Uncharted 2 or 3 where Uncharted 4 never happened and allow the new developers to craft a new line of games so they don't step on the ending NaughtyDog gave us.

Basically say, "this is the original and official ending, but here's our games, an alternative tale"

It would show respect to NaughtyDogs work

porkChop1854d ago

Why not just focus on a new character instead then?

That would be like someone coming in and replacing MGS4 with a new game just so they could continue Snake's story. That wouldn't go well.

-Foxtrot1854d ago

Yeah but the article is talking about Uncharted 5 as in Nate, Elena and Sully

If they WERE to use those characters again I'd rather see an alternative timeline then continuing from Uncharted 4 after the ending ND gave the characters.

nucky641854d ago

if they HAD to do another uncharted, a prequel with nate and sully on their very first adventure would be what i want to see. sort of going back to where it all started. i'd love to see the scene where/how they first meet.

deathtok1854d ago

Did they leave something out of Uncharted 3 when Nate met Sully?

Donnie811854d ago

Play uncharted 3 it shows all about it

ClayRules20121854d ago

How Nate & Sully met for the first time was shown in Uncharted 3.

nucky641854d ago

i get they showed that meeting in UC3, but a preqeul would show much more. i think, from a story perspective, it's the most interesting way to do another uncharted IF they insist on doing one. just doing another UC with more adventure seems kind of redundant - and i'd rather see a new IP than that.

whitbyfox1853d ago

No they already showed that you just played Uncharted 4 after jumping from Xbox 360 you should get a clue son.

ShadowWolf7121854d ago

Don't step on the ending, just completely ignore it while letting it call itself the "official" ending!

We get it, you hated 4 because you can't handle Nadine. lmao

oasdada1854d ago

i would prefer new playable characters in the potential new uncharted and somewhere near the end of the game they would need help and would seek out an old adventurer living in sully residence, when they ring the bell they are welcomed by none other than nathan drake him self! now that would be epic!

Xbox President Sarah Bond's Bloomberg Interview Is Corporate Fakery At Its Best

Saad from eXputer: "After Arkane Austin & Tango were shutdown, Xbox President Sarah Bond spoke with Bloomberg in what I believe to be utter corporate fakery."

gold_drake3d ago

im not really surprised by that, shes always been more a "let me talk about something else than what u want to know" kinda gal

Cacabunga2d ago

If what they are doing is that good, what’s the point of hiding the true story?

anast2d ago

She's a caricature of the shareholders.

PRIMORDUS2d ago

"Shareholders" I call them cancer, they are already rich to begin with but need more and more. It's like a disease, with no cure.

__y2jb2d ago

If you have a pension then you are likely to be a shareholder in these big tech companies yourself. To demonize them as 'heartless rich people' shows you have no idea what you're talking about.

anast2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

@Y2

Of course, it isn't about that. You are attempting to set up a self-righteous strawman to stir up some kind of ignorant mob mentality.

And by the way, most everyone is a touch heartless or we wouldn't be able to consume the products we do knowing very well how they are made. People have to be this way because of self-preservation and convenience.

__y2jb1d 23h ago

@anast please explain to me how what i said is self righteous or a strawman. I simply pointed out that categorizing all shareholders as cancer is ridiculous.

Leeroyw2d ago

I own shares in game companies. I'm not anything near a major share holder. I just want them to make good games and be successful because of that. I think it's the senior management that's the problem. They are the ones that should be making it clear to the shareholders what creates growth and ensures a future of their business. Not this weasle words garbage that she did on the interview. It was horrific. I don't know a shareholder that would be happy with any of them for this.

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Same and I'm not rich by any stretch like most people's I'm just trying to keep my head above water these days most company's shareholders are made up of everyday people it's amazing how companies think we want something but the reality is we don't.

Disney are probably the worse at the moment it's shareholders voted on ending a lot of the crap and outing the current execs the execs turned around and said no we disagree with the shareholder vote

PRIMORDUS2d ago

I meant at the rich fucks who have millions in the bank already. They are making so much per year, that if they don't make what they are expecting they go into a panic, when in reality it will not even hurt them at all. Those are greedy assholes.

anast2d ago

"you have a pension then you are likely to be a shareholder"

Pensioners don't make any decisions about anything. Obviously that is not what this is about.

CrimsonWing692d ago

Yea, it was and it’s insulting that they think we’re dumb enough to fall for this. Look, the truth was you took a gamble on these studios and while they released some games to critical praise and great reception they just aren’t bringing in a ROI. Be transparent, you’re not a politician.

Just tell everyone you spend money on projects big and small and when money isn’t being made you go over the potential of revenue a studio can bring in vs those that can’t and make the hard decision to chop them.

She says this whole thing about “success” doesn’t fit one meaning for each studio. Well yea, a small budget production isn’t going to expect to sell the same as a large budget production.

One thing I wish they did though was let Tango be an independent studio.

TheGamingHounds2d ago

disheartening to see no regard for the human cost of business anymore
the bad decisions and judgements of these CEOs severely impact the frontliners
these fake responses are just salt on wounds

RoadRacer2d ago

imagine havin the audacity to say "we need more games like hifi rush" right after closing the studio that made it lol
followin up with this show of "deflecting every question" was in poor taste
