Hellblade Switch Analysis: Just How Close Is It To PS4?

Digital Foundry:
"Even we had to do a double-take with this one! Just how did developer QLOC manage to make Hellblade on Switch look so close to the PS4 version of the game? John and Rich - with an assist from Tom - get to grips with the port and how it manages to deliver its sometimes remarkable visuals."

It is an impressive port but it makes sense that the Switch's cutscenes would be pre rendered unlike the PS4. I think I would still prefer PS4 version but really nice port overall.

Hugely Impressive. Wonder what sort of visuals the Switch could provide if it was pushed to its limit with a game like this from the ground up.

I don't know how you couldn't be impressed by a portable version of hellblade.

jonivtec1873d ago

it is...by ALL MEAN PUSHED TO ITS LIMIT...ground up or not....impressive by all means to...with time and technic...most game can look and run great,on most platform, money and time is the key here.Congrat to nintendo to have build such a scalable system....but most of all...congrat to dev to take time and give such a great game on a portable system.

EddieNX 1872d ago

No port ever pushes to a system to its.limits buddy. You have to build a game from the ground up like Sonys best games, Horizon etc.

Think developers are getting better at developing for the switch now. Panic Button in particular stand out with their work on Wolfenstein and DOOM for Bethesda

Shiken1873d ago

They did a fantastic job with Warframe as well.

its a visually stunning game, I wonder why they didn't compare it to the xbox versions also, its on gamespass.

Trueflames1873d ago

Its pointless the xbox x version is too powerful

King_Noctis1873d ago

You are right. A comparison with the OG Xbox would also be the correct choice. But then it would still be redundant, since for this game, the OG Xbox and the PS4 have similar graphic anyway.

I remember first playing this, I was like WOW, because I knew, it was a small studio that made it. Fantastic looking, Nintendo Switch, is the little hybrid that could. I have purchased so many games I already own, just to be able to play them on the go. Stick of Truth, Fractured but Whole, Doom, Skyrim, Mario Kart 8, BOTW, and more, all so I can play anywhere anytime.

Waiting to see what the "Recommended" spec be like!

Skuletor27d ago

Waiting to see if "Minimum" spec targets 30fps 😂

PassNextquestion27d ago

It's my understanding that the frame rate is unlocked on the pc version

Skuletor26d ago

@PassNextquestion
I've seen Ubisoft have PC specs that have targeted 30fps before.

PassNextquestion27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

Why the heck do you need Windows 11 to run the game? I remember there was a ssd feature locked to windows 11 not sure if that's still the case and if that's the reason.. direct storage I believe it is called

DivineHand12527d ago

If those are the minimum specs on PC then why can't the series x do more than 30 fps? Did they intentionally lock it to 30 fps when higher frame rates are possible?

PassNextquestion27d ago

Maybe they didn't want to compromise on the graphics

DarXyde27d ago

Very probable, but I can't really believe that when literally, the Series S ensures that they do.

I kind of think they just want to make it 30fps now to make an update later to keep people "on the hook" or give game pass subs something to look forward to with this game later on.

Personally, I think this game can push at least 45fps, but that's just my opinion. I don't really see a game this short being announced before TLOU2 launched, only to come out *now* and they haven't gotten those frames up.

RedDeadLB26d ago

Probably because they wanted better fidelity and that is probably too demanding for the XSX to push a stable 60fps on. Judging how most games are these days, the performance difference between low to high is sometimes not enough to target double the framerate. A locked, smooth 30fps i better than an unstable 60, even though it feels like picking between two turds.
