Retro Review - Way Of The Samurai

Jerry from BagoGames says, "Way of the Samurai has been on my "to-play" stack for quite sometime, but with the imminent release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice I wanted to take a look at a game in that same vein. Since I can't play games out of order, I decided to start with the first game in this series which was developed by Spike and ACQUIRE."

Was such an awesome game and trying to be at the right place at the right time to help and save everyone, join a faction, or go rogue. And so many weapons. Just don't break them. I still keep WoftS as one of the reasons of still having a PS2.

Would buy a good remake or remaster of this game in a second.

Way of the Samurai was awesome when I was a teenager. I have wanted something to bring that joy back and I think Ghost of Tsushima will be that game.

Just got a hold of the entire series, can't wait to get into it. Only played some of the first and 3rd one and really liked it.

I would kill to have a Way of the Samurai game with a huge budget and modern tech... The first game was one of my greatest joys on PS2 back in the day. And I really hope From Software will do something with Tenchu... I hate that they're just sitting on the IP like it doesn't even exist.

Don't play with my feelings like that.

Also, new Tenchu please!

Tenchu would be superb in this day and age. Ninja and samurai games are hot right now and more is better.

5 games to play before you play Ghost Of Tsushima? Bih the game releases in about 2 weeks time. I want to know how I can go to sleep and wake up the minute the game is playable. I'm dying to play this game

im really hoping it's good, but i have my reservations in terms of how fun itll be. game world looked a little boring (i know its a certain time period), and gameplay/activities looked a little ubisoft-ish. Hope im wrong

gigzamillion1394d ago

Maybe you should have signed the petition to have "fun" added to the game.

Sekiro sekiro sekiro. Loved that game world. Still havent beat it cuz im a noob, but i still love the game

Ugh, while I enjoyed Nioh overall, I hated the stance dance. If Ghosts forces you to constantly adjust fighting stances as well, I'm gonna wait for it to drop in price

This was an awesome game after Acquire made Tenchu. I still have it and go back to play it from time to time. You could beat the game in 5 minutes or 1 hour to get the best ending with all the people coming together.

The one on one was like the old Bushido Blade game only in an arena. Wish you could change the backgrounds on that part but still great. And all those weapons. And the beginning trailer was so Japanese with the music.

If you liked the music of Tenchu, the music here was just as epic. Anyway, once you got good at playing the game and knowing your chosen weapon, it's range and weapon durability, then it was easy to beat the game with one life.

The game went completely under the radar, I was surprised about how good it was. It had almost perfected a mechanic that developers are still struggling to get right. There was a narrative but you had complete control over what happened.
