Massively: The Digital Continuum: Let's talk about the Fallout MMO

Kyle Horner from Massively writes:

"Fallout 3 is out this week and I've spent a whole lot of time exploring and fighting in Bethesda's singleplayer MMO world. I've always wondered whether a post-apocalyptic MMO would work well or not, which is part of the reason I've kept a close eye on Fallen Earth in the past. But what's always been in the back-burner of my mind is whether or not the Fallout license would be necessary for a post-apocalyptic to flourish. While endlessly exploring our own personal post-apocalypticia is incredible fun, do we want a massive one?"

Why a Fallout MMO Would be Terrible

8CN: Here's another one from the ever-present rumor mill: Bethesda may or may not be kind of sort of working on a Fallout MMO. At least according to this article from Air Herald. Or, at least, according to that article, Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer claims that the Fallout franchise could eventually make for a decent MMO. This is a terrible, terrible idea.

It is definitely a terrible idea. Look what happened to elder scrolls online.

The List: 5 Singleplayer Games That Could Be MMOs

David Jagneaux of MMORPG writes: "As has become customary here at MMORPG, this week’s list is the reverse of last week’s! Previously, we covered five MMOs that we think could be turned into great singleplayer games. Now, we want to look at five singleplayer games that could be turned into great MMOs. With the extreme level variety the genre we know and love experiences in today’s industry, there is plenty of room for new concepts. In fact, several of the games on this list already have MMO-esque counterparts on the market in the form of different IPs."

Wow...aside from Pokemon...replace with red dead...and thats my list too.

Now...I love mmo's. I do for so many reasons. Good mmos have few draw backs. I ALSO love single player rpgs. And if done right, a company could make an epic single player mmo. Hear me out.

My example is Dragons Dogma. It has an amazing single player experience...very rewarding. Why? Because u could create ur own pawn that others could borrow. They could have easily been real players in an mmo. At the end, there is the online UR dragon, but also a rich endgame dungeon with many monsters and great loot.

Now, if a company could manage to offer something akin to Dragons Dogmas system for those who want to play alone, allows them to borrow other ppls pawns for example. It could work. It would need balancing.

For those who want the mmo experience, they simply group up and tackle things together. They also hav the pawn option in case they want to use it and level it.

Now, maybe single player content is a bit easier or comes later with a buff...and its loot would need to be a lower level, but it would giv all those who dont want to group up to continue playing.

On The Chopping Block: Five AAA Games That Will Never See The Light Of Day (And One That Might)

GP: "For every game that is released on the market, there are dozens that never make it passed the first production meeting. While I have no feelings towards those games because they were never shown to the public, there have been many instances where a game was shown to the market to much fanfare, and then their productions were suddenly cut short and they vanished forever.

This article is about those games. The ones that could have been AAA titles, the games that you would have expected to sell systems and launch new franchises. Why didn't these games make it? They certainly looked more than good enough. Read on to find out."

I wouldn't be surprised if we never see FFXIV on the PS3.

Jack Tretton´s biggest mistake was anoncing it

ShinMaster4457d ago

That ain't his fault. Square Enix needs stop announcing games that they don't plan on releasing in years (Versus) and releasing games no one asked for (XIII-2).

[on topic]
Project Milo - All fake.
Mega Man Legends 3 - F* you Capcom!
Fallout Online - Zzz....
B.C. - ?
Sadness - Had Nintendo made a system with more up to date specs, the game would've been released.

lol @ Milo. I didn't care about any of these, but the title reminded me of The Agency. I stumbled upon info about The Agency during the summer of 07 while doing some random web surfing, and was instantly intrigued at the prospect of getting game related texts on my cell phone. I searched constantly for new intel after that, getting more and more excited each time I found new info or footage, until the day I read it was canceled. Bastards. I still hope someone will finish it since I read it was nearly completed when it was axed.
