Pokémon Nintendo Direct Takes Place Wednesday, February 27

Hardcore Gamer: It looks like Nintendo wants to start off the Pokémon Day celebrations with a bang! A Nintendo Direct focusing only on Pokémon will be taking place on Wednesday, February 27.

The 10th Rider1924d ago

Awww yeah. This is gonna be exciting.

Though, to keep expectations in check, it will likely be a logo, maybe some talk about development and some concept art, and some other teasing. The first announcement of a new gen is often pretty drawn out.

Neonridr1924d ago (Edited 1924d ago )

The game supposedly releases this year though and we are basically at March. They better have a fleshed out game to a certain degree. I wouldn't be surprised to see a smidgen of gameplay.

The 10th Rider1924d ago

For Sun/Moon it was revealed February 27th and released the same year, yet the reveal had no gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

The three Pokeballs in the image does seem indicative that we will at least see the three starter Pokemon. I imagine if we're seeing them we will at least get a glimpse of what the game looks like. However, typically there's barely any gameplay in these trailers. The X/Y announcement had gameplay, but it was like 15 seconds of it: https://youtu.be/VzO6J981nA...

Either way it's highly unlikely this will be a full blowout, so people definitely need to keep their expectations in check.

Neonridr1924d ago

@10th - no definitely not a full reveal. I am talking about a sneak peek at the world or something. Give us an idea of what we should expect visually.

Sono4211924d ago

It's a pokemon direct.... in other words, a direct all about pokemon, how much other pokemon related stuff could there be to pad out the direct? It almost has to show us some new pokemon and some gameplay, whats the point of having a pokemon specific direct if you aren't going to showcase the brand new gen pokemon game releasing this year, that seems so idiotic to me. I'm not expecting a lot, but at the same time I don't consider like 10 new pokemon (all the starters), in game graphics with a little gameplay, as well as the titles + release window, all of that is completely reasonable.

Neonridr1924d ago

@Sono421 - agree, just something to whet our appetite a little :P

The 10th Rider1924d ago

@Sono421,

The X/Y, Sun/Moon, and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon directs ALL contained other announcements other than the new entries in the series.

I believe they said there's more Pokemon Mystery Dungeon in the future. Pokken could get DLC. Detective Pikachu could get ported. There's Pokemon Go. There's Pokemon Quest.

I hope we see some gameplay and I think that since it's on a new console (like X/Y) we should see a small snippet. However the odds are that what we see isn't going to be some blowout showcasing the game. We'll see just enough to tease us.

I wouldn't be shocked if less than 2 minutes of the direct was spent actually showing off the game. That's how Pokemon announcements typically go.

Neonridr1924d ago

@10th - oh there could be so much more than just the Pokemon Switch game. Lots of news in the Pokemon world to share. I was just hoping that we see a glimpse of something. Much like we saw a brief glimpse of BOTW a year before it came out.

its a whole direct for pokemon, i doubt it will not include gameplay

The 10th Rider1924d ago

In the past, such directs have often included some other Pokemon announcements.

They could definitely do a full reveal, but I'd expect something like a gen 8 tease, a Go update, a Detective Pikachu port and/or a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. The three Pokeballs in the image does seem pretty indicative that we'll at least see the starters, hopefully that means we'll see a glimpse of some gameplay with the region and protagonist included.

For reference, here's the X/Y announcement, which has a tiny snippet of gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

And here's the Sun/Moon announcement, no gameplay and it was shown off February 27th and released the same year as well: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

OCEANGROWNKUSH1924d ago

They already did the "Logo" thing, this is a special pokemon direct and they will be bringing the big guns

Gemmol1924d ago

I doubt it, Pokemon have two reveals in first 6 months of a year, February direct and May direct where they really show off gameplay for new games it’s at the end of May not far from e3

OCEANGROWNKUSH1923d ago

love the downvotes though i was 100% correct

King_Noctis1924d ago

The Direct will be 7 minutes long. Unless they have multiple Pokemon projects in the work, or they gonna show Pokemon GO for the whole Direct, I think we will at least see 1 minute footage of the new core Pokemon game.

Fortunately for Nintendo, the legal team is separate from Game Freak’s development team.

NotoriousWhiz124d ago

Unfortunately for us, as their legal team seems to be more competent than Game Freak's development team.

gold_drake125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

they do tho .. IF there is something to sue for. IP infringement is such a delicate thing.

but absolutely agree on the change

GoodGuy09125d ago

That, have longer dev time, and absolutely get rid of Nintendo as the exclusive platform. Imagine a AAA pkmn game on current consoles or next generation.

But money, they'll make billions with little effort.

badz149124d ago

you know that's never gonna happen

FinalFantasyFanatic124d ago

Gamer Freak, Creatures and Nintendo all have a stake in the Pokemon franchise, Nintendo especially will never let them go, I don't know how Creatures or Game Freak feels about it. Plus, the other two don't have a financial incentive to ditch Nintendo, they make mega bucks regardless. Although I think Nintendo should help Game Freak out more since they're clearly struggling, other they'll all just have to accept longer dev times and bigger gaps between games, or maybe just make some cheaper low-tier games in-between.

shinoff2183125d ago

Idk yall. I'd take a Pokémon jrpg over a Pokémon with guns, online play etc. Plus wasn't Pokémon mobile pretty fking big like 4 years ago then covid hit.

--Onilink--124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

Even Scarlet/Violet had sold 24million as of early November (and undoubtedly sold even more during the Holidays), its not like they are currently suffering.

Yes, there are plenty of things I would like Gamefreak to do better, and yes I happened to like Palworld, but not because its a Pokemon clone, because its not, but because its a good survival game, something that I have zero interest for the mainline Pokemon games to become.

Most publications keep bringing up these topic ls just for clicks, because clearly the game is your typical survival game (most who do well on PC) with some Pokemon sprinkled in and not a Pokemon competitor, the core gameplay loop is clearly just Ark with dinosaurs swapped for Pokemon like creatures

And again, while I’m enjoying the game itself, I hope it doesnt set a new precedent for what we expect from game devs these days because, based on their other games, this developer really seems to basically just try to go as close as possible to ripping off other games without getting into trouble and then not really following up on those projects as promised (Craftopia players seem particularly angry).

I doubt they ever expected the discourse around this game to reach this level of popularity to push those insane sales numbers, and they actually take the opportunity to increase the quality of their work

FinalFantasyFanatic124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

I'm going to say something somewhat controversial, the last set of Pokemon games weren't that bad, it wasn't a great game, but a good game if we ignore the performance issues (and I personally didn't have many bugs).

They just need more interesting towns and NPCs (give them interesting dialogue, there's literally no reasons to talk to NPCs), interesting areas/locations (like the sunken ship and Bellsprout Tower), and some decent side quest, there isn't really any interesting side quests in those games, and fix the barely there lore for the game (Idk even know what was going on with those 4 "legendary Pokemon"). And maybe add less new Pokemon into the next game so they can transition more of the older Pokemon into 3D.

I think Scarlet/Violet had the potential to go from a good game to a great game if they implemented most of those ideas, but they also needed more development time to optimise the game as well.

Profchaos124d ago

Yeah agree id take a remake of red in the style of the links awakening remake any day of the week

Profchaos124d ago

No they don't I don't want any of the gameplay anywhere near Pokemon the only link between them is the idea of Pokemon except there's guns you enslave humans and Pokemon and there's a survival aspect.

Pokemon is fairly family friendly can't see Nintendo going ok let's give them m16s and slaughter each other
