War Thunder Dev Slams Sony Over Cross-Play Program

Sony is not gonna look good at all among developers if they continue with their stubborn stance regarding crossplay. Apex Legends is already a success and Respawn already said they have plans to make it crossplay/crossplatform.

Free to play games espically are an interesting issue with crossplay. Who gets the money from bought items on storefronts? Some kind of revenue sharing has to exist if bought items are going to be shared across platforms. How the split works would be the biggest issues with crossplay.

Cross play, and cross buy don't have to always be one in the same. They're actually completely different principals that don't necessarily go hand in hand. Cross buy is relevant to people who play the same game on different platforms. Cross play is relevant to playing against players on different platforms. Sometimes, the two things will overlap.

Sony's policies require they distribute any signed content which is on its system. this can make cross buy harder to implement, because it requires a third party to keep track of who owns what. The current beta is apparently trying to see how this can work with Fortnite at least....not sure if it's doing it with the other games. I'm not sure how they're handling it with Fortnite, but it seems to work from what I understand.

Couldn't say why Sony said no to War Thunder. Maybe it's not implemented with the proper API code yet, or it's not implemented properly, or Sony is taking slower. But, from what I understand, as of right now, devs can put in games for certification with the cross play API now. I'm not sure what they're allowing in terms of letting them play on their system though. Sony supposedly had stopped the actual beta program, but maybe that's not the case yet. if the dev isn't willing to say why Sony said no, then I don't see why we should listen to their complaints. Sony doesn't just say no when they reject a compliance application. They give specific reasons why they say no. Did they even ask Sony? Or were they expecting Sony to ask them?

You know that PS4 has now crossplay with PC? So, you have the biggest community on PS4/PC. Also, F2P games are LITERALLY free on PS4. No need for PS+ sub ( and Switch and PC ), but you need to pay a Gold sub to play F2P games online multy on Xbone.

You're right. Locking F2P behind Gold is wrong. But that has literally nothing to do with cross play. If you have to bring up something completely irrelevant it's because you clearly know Sony is wrong here but refuse to admit it.

There are many things we don't know. Maybe they're doing something wrong. War Thunder was a game initially released for X360. There maybe disparity in content or temporary contracts with Microsoft. Sony would not accept that.

I can't speak for all of you out there, but everyone I know have a PS4+ Switch, or PS4+ PC-combo and 3 out of 40 people have a Xbox+PS4 combo (why ? hehe). Anyway, and I'm still only talking about this "little" group of people that I know play games near me, why should anyone of these people need crossplay ? Everyone owns a PS4 so why just not make it simple and buy the game on that system that everyone owns ?
But as I said. Thats the reality here in my city. Can't speak for the rest of you guys out there.
But here nothing changes "bolimekurac" apart from more and more PS4 gaming and less PC building /gaming.
So that's the "progress" I see every day here. :)

Epic's accident wasn't going to be acceptable to either console maker. They aren't going to allow 3rd party implementation for connectivity to networks that exist outside their network. All the console makers require they control how that data is handled, which is why MS told Epic to turn off cross play before Sony had to.

There will have to be cooperation between the console makers to make this happen, and they will all have to work on the APi's to make it work. Sony provides those with PS/PC in their API now, and their new API's have the stuff to connect to MS network. They just are being more pragmatic about allowing games to implement the feature than MS is. Which is pretty much has Sony works. they are nothing if not bureaucratic.

Cross-play is in Beta at Sony. The Beta programs ends in 2021 and these things take time. Things will open up then no worries be patient. Plus Sony has other more important things to work on than seeing that gamers on other platforms have gamers to game with.

There were a lot is squeakers saying horrible things, and older people saying horrible things back.
