EA to Release Subscription Service on "Another Major Platform", Possibly EA Access on PS4

Pure PlayStatinon: While PS4 players have a lot to be happy about, there’s one sore point that sticks out like a sore thumb: EA Access. Our Xbox One brethren are treated to a fantastic subscription service while we’re left out in the cold. That may be changing sooner rather than later.

That would be interesting if it's true.

Sono4211931d ago

um, no. I wouldn't get it even if it was free.

PapaBop1931d ago

^^^ Lol what? I hate EA as much as the next person here but I don't see how having options is a bad thing for anyone.

VenomUK1931d ago

It sounds like Ouya users are in for a treat!

UltraNova1931d ago

Papabop,

Did Sono421 say he didn't want EA access on ps4 at all or that it would be a bad thing?

He/she said (and he/she can correct me if I'm wrong) that he/she is not interested in it even if it was free. I feel the same. EA can crush and burn for all I care. Used is the only way I'm touching their games. Thank GOD for physical.

iEatNapkinz1931d ago

@VenomUK
That made me chuckle

S2Killinit1931d ago (Edited 1931d ago )

Not a big deal

StormSnooper1931d ago

I wonder if this has anything to do with EA’s disappointing annual report where they admitted they weren’t happy with EA’s financial situation. Maybe they had to accept Sony’s terms to save EA?

NarutoFox1931d ago

EA is going down. I hate EA

bluefox7551931d ago

No thanks. I can't imagine any self respecting gamer giving money to EA.

Muzikguy1930d ago

@PapaBop

Sometimes options are a bad thing. Not initially, but they have a way for more to happen and the consequences can be bad. I don't want EAA either. If it were so great why does EA have such disappointing financials these days? I see it only getting worse if they keep with the subscription model honestly. It will lead to more half baked games and quick cash grabs. Shallow gameplay and all that. Could I be wrong? Sure, but we shall see

bouzebbal1930d ago

Always good with extra stuff.. But I don't see myself using this service

Visceral891930d ago

I have EA access on Xbox one x and it's well worth the $30 a year. Having options is always a good thing. I'm seeing a lot of sheep who "hate" EA just because it's the popular thing to do these days.

Switch maybe....? Sony said they didnt want the service on PS so it seems likely it would be switch. If EA access is a streaming option then it could let switch users play games that arent specifically ports to the switch itself.

jznrpg1931d ago (Edited 1931d ago )

Switch can only stream games not run all of them locally

RememberThe3571930d ago

You might have just found yourself a good point. Switch doesn't have any competing services right?

badz1491930d ago

please be the Switch, man. if it comes to the PS4, then the xboners will have one more thing less to bitch about the PS4

Atom6661930d ago

Their new streaming platform makes sense for the Switch. Less competition and a way to get their more graphically intense games on the system.

EA Access turned out a lot better than I would have thought when it was first announced. Given that it was EA though, I wasn't keen on thinking they'd make something good out if it.

--bienio--1930d ago

Ea is a cancer of gaming industry so it’s not interesting or awesome .

Neonridr1931d ago

nah, they would have to actually release games for the Switch then. Not just FIFA.

TheUndertaker851931d ago

Yeah? Like those cloud streamed titles available only in Japan for Switch? Ya know, those games that didn’t or couldn’t receive a physical variation.

https://kotaku.com/in-japan...

Neonridr1931d ago

@TheUndertaker85 - that's always a possibility, but I would be surprised if that was the case.

Atom6661930d ago

I think it's their streaming platform coming to Switch. Project Atlas?

EA Access is a nice side product for them, but I think EA wants to push their streaming service moving forward. It'd be an easy way to get all of their games on the Switch's weaker hardware.

boing11931d ago

Why Switch though? Doesn't make any sense.

Eonjay1931d ago

Right because very few of the games on the service actually run on Switch. It wouldn't be worth it.

KillMePrettyPlease1931d ago

If it comes to PS4 it might be an exchange kind of deal so EA games can come to PS Now

crazyCoconuts1931d ago

I guess I'd find that more enticing than a separate subscription just for EA.

antarius1931d ago

EA acess is dirt cheap, 30 dollars for the year

dumahim1930d ago

@antarius
"I guess I'd find that more enticing than a separate subscription just for EA."

Yeah, but then you've got EA games.

TK-551931d ago (Edited 1931d ago )

But then there'd be no point in EA Access lol. While I'm okay with EA Access existing they seriously need to up their game when it comes to competing with Game Pass and PS Now. I just feel there's not a huge amount of value in being able to play 6 Battlefield games, 4 FIFA games, 4 Madden games, 3 NBA games and 3 NHL games. On PC it's a little better but still not great.

Also wouldn't some of the games in the service not be available on Playstation? I thought games like Dead Space, Dante's Inferno and Dragon Age are played through BC or am I wrong?

DerekTweed1931d ago

I think you are right about the back compat. There are other games on the service than those you mentioned. You get a 10 hour trial of their new releases. You also get a 10% discount on EA games with the subscription.

It costs about £20 or so in the UK for 1 year.

Of, course it is up to each individual if they think it is worth it for them.

crazyCoconuts1931d ago

Yes, there would be no point in ea access for PS4 in that case. They'd have to capitulate that participating in PS Now is more profit than essentially competing with them. Maybe they could do the Showtime/HBO thing and have PS Now charge a premium for those games - don't know if that would fly. In terms of BC, if they partnered with PS Now, older games would just be streamed like they are today, without the download option.

Zeref1931d ago (Edited 1931d ago )

It's only $30 a year. And since it's just EA games. There's not much else they can put on there.

1931d ago
porkChop1931d ago

Hmm. My initial thought is EA Access on PS4. However, they don't specify EA Access. They just say a subscription service.

What if this was a cloud gaming service for the Switch? EA might be trying to get some of that Switch money without having to develop Switch versions of their games.

Obscure_Observer1931d ago

@porkChop

I don´t think so. Sony and Playstation are under new management, and i think the new CEO is more open to new revenue streams from online services.

uth111931d ago

could be they are rolling their service into PS Now

crazyCoconuts1931d ago

Could be, but cloud gaming is a significant investment for a company. Would be hard to justify just for EA games. More likely they would partner with other providers to stream games. I wouldn't be surprised to see Epic try on their own since they're flying high right now and sitting on piles of cash.
