EA to Release Subscription Service on "Another Major Platform", Possibly EA Access on PS4

Pure PlayStatinon: While PS4 players have a lot to be happy about, there’s one sore point that sticks out like a sore thumb: EA Access. Our Xbox One brethren are treated to a fantastic subscription service while we’re left out in the cold. That may be changing sooner rather than later.

Sometimes options are a bad thing. Not initially, but they have a way for more to happen and the consequences can be bad. I don't want EAA either. If it were so great why does EA have such disappointing financials these days? I see it only getting worse if they keep with the subscription model honestly. It will lead to more half baked games and quick cash grabs. Shallow gameplay and all that. Could I be wrong? Sure, but we shall see

Switch maybe....? Sony said they didnt want the service on PS so it seems likely it would be switch. If EA access is a streaming option then it could let switch users play games that arent specifically ports to the switch itself.

EA Access is a nice side product for them, but I think EA wants to push their streaming service moving forward. It'd be an easy way to get all of their games on the Switch's weaker hardware.

But then there'd be no point in EA Access lol. While I'm okay with EA Access existing they seriously need to up their game when it comes to competing with Game Pass and PS Now. I just feel there's not a huge amount of value in being able to play 6 Battlefield games, 4 FIFA games, 4 Madden games, 3 NBA games and 3 NHL games. On PC it's a little better but still not great.

Also wouldn't some of the games in the service not be available on Playstation? I thought games like Dead Space, Dante's Inferno and Dragon Age are played through BC or am I wrong?

I think you are right about the back compat. There are other games on the service than those you mentioned. You get a 10 hour trial of their new releases. You also get a 10% discount on EA games with the subscription.

It costs about £20 or so in the UK for 1 year.

Of, course it is up to each individual if they think it is worth it for them.

Yes, there would be no point in ea access for PS4 in that case. They'd have to capitulate that participating in PS Now is more profit than essentially competing with them. Maybe they could do the Showtime/HBO thing and have PS Now charge a premium for those games - don't know if that would fly. In terms of BC, if they partnered with PS Now, older games would just be streamed like they are today, without the download option.

Could be, but cloud gaming is a significant investment for a company. Would be hard to justify just for EA games. More likely they would partner with other providers to stream games. I wouldn't be surprised to see Epic try on their own since they're flying high right now and sitting on piles of cash.

That's an interesting thought, it would definitely make the Switch that more appealing of it could stream games it otherwise couldn't play due to it's hardware.

But I think it may be coming to PS4. PS4 fans have been asking to have this service for a while now, it just doesn't make sense why Sony wouldn't allow it.

By Sony fans, do you mean the Xbox fan boys who like to demand things from Sony on their behalf? Because I haven't seen any Sony fans asking for it. Maybe one or two here or there, but otherwise, it seems like most forgot it existed....like I do until these articles come up and remind us it's a thing.

I wasn't too impressed when the service first launched, but to EAs credit, they did make a good service. I don't care if it comes now or not. I wouldn't bother with it anymore than I'd bother with other services like it. But that's just because of the way I consume games.

I'm referring to the Sony fans who would actually like to have this service, this doesn't include the sony fanboys who go around telling everyone what their fanbase doesn't care about, like for example BC, crossplay or mistake the fans who want it as Xbox fanboys. Those are the PS4 fans I'm referring too. Sorry if you personally haven't seen enough of them though.

It's actually an excellent service, especially if you're a sports fan but don't want to keep getting the same sports game every year. And then there's Titanfall 2 and other great games that EA has put out.

I really don't know how anyone could not want another option to play more games.

I have nothing against the service anymore. I was not that keen on it when it was announced because, well...it's EA....do I need more reason than that? Oh, you mean crossplay that was constantly asked by actual developers? I did see a bunch of Sony fanboys in a lot of those articles pretending that only MS were pushing it and then saying how no one really wants this, despite the many articles from third party devs that said other wise...like what you were doing and like what you're doing here.

EA Access is a good service. If you're afraid it might catch on well it will. It's inevitable that more companies with a huge catalog will follow suit.

If a vast number of Sony fans are asking for it, perhaps you can offer up copious evidence of that being the case. I can offer up plenty of evidence of Xbox fans who go on about how Sony is anti-consumer because they didn't allow EA Access. When it first came to X1, most I saw were saying they didn't care, because it's EA. Which is what I also said. Many now don't even care, because it's EA, but at least I have come around to recognize it as a good service, which I never would have expected because, well, it's EA.

Every article I see about this has Sony fans saying they don't care, or they don't want it. I maybe see one or two who are Sony fans, and not known Xbox fan boys, who say they want this, but I don't see many acting like it's a must have features. It's like BC. It's cool if its there, but otherwise, no biggie, and I'd wager given the choice between BC and EAA, BC would win hands down.

I've said many times more recently that EAA is a good service. I still don't care if it comes to PS platforms, because well....its EA, and I'm still of the belief that too many sub services if it becomes successful is not going to be that good for gamers.

You are clearly missing the point, believe it or not, there is a HUGE audience for sports games. Its a no brainer to pay $30 a year for EA Access if you enjoy sports games. It doesn't hurt that you get dozens of BC games, Battlefield games, Mirrors Edge games, Star Wars games, Titanfall 1 & 2, EA original games and a ton of other things. Add in 10 hour early access for new games and its a no brainer. If you cant see the value in that then I don't know what to tell you. You must really enjoy paying full price for every single game you play...

Sore point is a little over dramatic. Another fee is something I don't need at all. But if your one of those Bro bro's that only play sport games guess it's great option. This gen I've bought 5 EA games Titanfall2, BF1, SW Battlefront, and one Madden game since I only buy one Madden per gen. Although this gen I did buy a second Madden only because of Tom Brady was on the cover and framed it for my office. Nice feature for some but not for me.

PVZ ended up being my most played vault game when I first subbed lol. It's only $5 a month or $30 a year. Well at 37.99 per release (thanks Bestbuy!) it worked out to 189.95 over 6 years so 31.66 a year. Plus rather own the game that way can trade it in or let friend borrow it. So after 6 years I would have saved $1.66 per year hardly worth it for me.

There are way too many sub services but the speculation surrounding a Switch streaming app actually seems very viable and would have the most impact. Collaborating with Sony could also bring value to that platform but not as much as the aforementioned collaboration with Nintendo.

There are no traditional sports games in the selection of backwards compatible titles of EA Access. There is Fight Night Champion, Skate 3, and SSX. You're just making stuff up. You do however get Mass Effect Trilogy, Dead Space Trilogy, and the Dragon Age Trilogy, just to name a few. Some of the games are even X enhanced to run at 4K.

I don't care if it's on Xbox or not. That's just where it happens to be. I got 12 month codes for $15 and it gives me access to 71 (Seventy One) games. Seems like a fair price to me. On top of that I get discounts on new EA games and early access to new EA games.

If you could get 71 games for $15 on the Switch or the PS4, that's a good deal.

The only problem that I mentioned in my first post is that 30 of those 71 games are backwards compatible titles. So comparisons would be made if this launched on PS4 with only 41 games compared to 71 on Xbox. That's what this article is about, it's not about EA Access on Xbox, that's already where it already is, it's about it possibly coming to a new console.

Sony blocked it because it interferes with PS+ sales. I don't mind options, but with how much they try to sell you it on Origin when buying any game disgusts me.
