Dreams’ P.T. Level Is A Remarkable Showcase Of The Creation Tools

From PlayStation Universe: "The Dreams’ closed beta NDA has been broken, but with one user doing so he’s showcased to PS4 players just how remarkable the creation tools can be in the right hands."

Neonridr1949d ago

amazing re-creation.. but the NDA was there for a reason.

porkChop1949d ago

Yeah. One of the devs had asked them to take the video down, but last I checked it was still up.

Sono4211948d ago

Honestly, pretty glad this guy broke NDA, because now this game is finally getting some of the recognition it deserves, people have been sleeping on this game way too long, time to wake up. Lucky for me i'm getting into the beta tomorrow, but I for one, will not be breaking NDA.

-Foxtrot1948d ago

I'm kind of glad because these leaked videos are gaining a lot of hype, it shows the potential of the game and how far it can be pushed.

KickSpinFilter1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

I think I't exactly what Dreams developer was looking for Free PR!
Brilliant!

Eonjay1948d ago

Specifically about PT... it is amazing how Konami has tried to erase this thing from existence but it just keeps coming back lol

“amazing re-creation.. but the NDA was there for a reason.“

What reason exactly? Why wouldn’t they want amazing designs like this shown off? It’s great publicity.

knickstr1949d ago

Probably because they're worried about konami taking legal action.

TiredandRetired1949d ago

Konami can go pachinko themselves.

rainslacker1949d ago

Because people that don't figure out how to use the tools may make it look bad?

Majin-vegeta1949d ago

@Otter X Lol that's my new insult to everyone."GO PACHINKO YOURSELF"

UltraNova1949d ago

OtterX

Hahaha

That's gold dude!

Neonridr1948d ago

not sure, this was something put in place by the devs. I guess they want as much of it to be a surprise as possible? Who knows.

Regardless, seeing that you can make stuff like this is making my head spin at what we can expect from this title.

CannonB81948d ago

@knickstr - What good would legal action do? This was created by a user using the tools given to him by playing Dreams. That's like Nintendo suing Crayola because someone used coloured pencils to draw Mario.

frostypants1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

Bottom line is posting this after agreeing to the NDA is a breach of contract. It was all Media Molecule asked in exchange for participation, and this guy was too selfish to oblige. They had no right to post it. It's not really up for debate.

But if we must, people posting these things could just as easily bring bad publicity. It would be a terrible precedent for MM to let this slide.

My jaw hit the floor multiple times while playing the beta and that's all I can say the potential of this game is out of this world.

Retroman1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

I'm glad Dreams was created, now you can create your own favorite games without waiting a lifetime for development team to decide to make a game.
no investor's to stop you.

S2Killinit1949d ago

Wow i didnt realize they could make something like this with Dreams...

porkChop1949d ago

You can literally make games, not just levels like LBP. The creations that could come from these tools, man, I can't wait. I'll laugh if someone remakes FF VII before Square Enix can.

knickstr1949d ago

At least just do the opening sequence up until the first boss fight.

UltraNova1949d ago

This is looking like a game that definitely deserved its baking time...

bouzebbal1949d ago

this is really a silent hit..

darthv721948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

So is Dreams like Project Spark, but better? I havent been following Dreams but i do remember PS and how it was a 'game' meant to bolster the creativity in users to make new games or levels for games and share them with other users.

Dreams seems similar but on a much grander scale with more freedom where as PS had some import limitations and it isnt even available anymore.

Exvalos1948d ago

I was just thinking that

Araragifeels 1949d ago

PlayStation can take advantage of Dreams creation tools. They could hired creators in Dreams to make games and Published their creation as a standalone game through Media Molecules.

Araragifeels 1949d ago

Media Molecules mentioned this on a interview last year about publishing creator on games.

Knushwood Butt1949d ago

Certain rival companies must be somewhat concerned about this.

moomoo3191949d ago

NDA or not this might be the best bit of advertising MM has gotten for this game lol. That looks sick.

IamTylerDurden11949d ago

I'm bout to jump in, but after watching hours of dev diary Twitch streams i'm well aware of how impressive this game is. As i've said all along, LBP on steroids. Everyone can be a game creator now. The tools in LBP were little league compared to Dreams. I can't wait for Mm to rock the world with this game. Easily the most important release this gen, especially when you add VR. People are already forming Dreams development teams.

porkChop1949d ago

I hope Dreams gets ported to the PS5. We're nearing the end of this generation, and a game like this would be supported for years.

jznrpg1949d ago (Edited 1949d ago )

I am sure it will

Majin-vegeta1949d ago

Dont think that will be necessary. With the PS5 being 99.999999999999%BC.

mkis0071949d ago

Dreams is the only proof you need to know that it will be bc. No way they dont see this game through for at least 5 years.

salmonade1949d ago

"People are already forming Dreams development teams."

Wow. I swear. I hope they allow people to sell their creations. I would have no problem buying the ones I liked. Lol, it's the only micro-transactions I'll support. real people making real things you can play. So the creators get experience and can get a little cash too for their hard work. If multiple people get together to make different parts of a bigger game, then that's even better.I wonder what's going to happen? How will this thing evolve? There are so many creative people out there with really great ideas and the passion and drive to create them. Now they have the tools

1949d ago
Amplitude1949d ago (Edited 1949d ago )

I feel like if you spend hundreds of hours making something you should have the option to get paid for it

But that's definitely not gonna happen lol these games are gonna be made by the community for fun and people'll play them for fun

salmonade1949d ago

@ NewUser101, ok calm down son. I get your point. Well I hope people will just do it for the passion then. But, this isn't some big greedy company like Bethesda, it's everyday people building things. If they DO charge for their creations, I would much rather pay normal people and not some huge greedy company like Buggy Bethesda

ILostMyMind1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

I agree with you. Creating simple content is easy, but creating a complete game that catches the attention of a player for days is expensive; requires a lot of dedication and time from a team that has trained to have the knowledge to do so. It is fair and desirable that they receive from the effort expended. Because without this financial return nobody will develop content at a professional level.

All these publications think it’s okay to report on and feature the video which broke NDA. What they don’t realise is that they are now part of the broken NDA. Considering Sony are the publishers and the NDA was quite thorough, it’s not exactly the best thing to report on this and share it out where Sony can clearly see...

porkChop1949d ago

"What they don’t realise is that they are now part of the broken NDA."

Well, no, that's not necessarily true. The NDA only applies to those who sign or agree to the NDA. I agree that the original poster should have taken the video down when asked, but there isn't any reason this shouldn't be reported on. It's news, and big news at that.

Silly gameAr1949d ago

Remember when Sony blacklisted Kotaku for outing PS Home? They were super butthurt at Sony after that.

rainslacker1949d ago (Edited 1949d ago )

If the publication didn't sign the NDA, they aren't required to uphold it. Even if the site has an NDA based on Dreams showings that they may see, that NDA will only be applicable to whatever is shown to that publication. Once proprietary information is made public, anyone that isn't under NDA, is free to report on it.

@Silly

Kotaku actually did sign an NDA.

Exvalos1948d ago

With that logic you can break contracts you didnt sign or never verbally agreed to.

If there was one PC version that should have existed it’s Dreams

I’m super glad they will be going back to something more traditional gaming wise.

Cacabunga17d ago

I’m sure they’ll find something creative to implement like Tearaway on vita. What a gem 💎 that thing was!!!

Abear2117d ago

My dream was DreamsVR and creating landscapes, characters, and sculptures using that amazing toolbox in vr, that would have been something imo.

ocelot0717d ago

I thought It has vr support?

Amplitude17d ago

It did but it came out as an update LONG after the game was essentially dead

P_Bomb17d ago

Dreams PC was the dream. Woulda given the game a much needed boost. Here’s hoping they follow it up well.

phoenixwing17d ago

If sony had any sense they'd be making a pc version pronto

mkis00717d ago

They probably ran into the same problem they did with the potential of last of us factions....the support needed was just too much to consider expanding to more platforms for a smallish studio.

Abnor_Mal17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

I use to say this when the game was first releasing, many kept saying it would not be possible, something about the toolsets.

I said this was one game that needed to be on as many platforms as possible, including PC and Xbox just like how Minecraft is everywhere.

Goodguy0117d ago

Creation tools just don't work on console very well. It's definitely more suited for PC, and it's very odd Sony decided not to port it over. Good MM is working on an actual game instead.

Dreams Dev Media Molecule Says Layoffs Impact Planned Community and Curation Support

IGN writes: "Media Molecule has said the layoffs at the Sony-owned studio have affected plans for ongoing community and curation support in Dreams."

Inverno61d ago

How self sustained can DREAM be when it's basically stuck on PS4? I don't think it's even gotten a PS5 upgrade. Ending support for what is essentially a game making engine is basically death. SONY did DREAMS dirty.
