Gameplayer: Resistance 2 Review

Gameplayer has gone live with their review of Sony's highly anticipated arcade shooter Resistance 2.

"Despite the opening barrage of combat, Insomniac has a much better handle on pacing this time around, happy to release the throttle every now and again to give you a chance to catch your breath. At first it is all urgency and carnage, but as events unfold you'll find a nice ebb and flow to the gaming which makes for a far more compelling play."

"It is too generic to throw the types of haymakers needed to compete with the big boys, but it is not shy of unleashing a barrage of punishing jabs and, every now and again, a killer right hook. Definitely check it out."

What exactly is generic about this game? This game has so much variety it kills the competition.

Rhythmattic5659d ago

Yep , Sounds like this reviewers had too many haymakers to the head....

As for the Big Boys ?

COD4 ? Yep, I love it..... Halo ? Obviously Lives biggest game... A great run and gun...

But Cmon , R2 is moving Boundaries for console gaming, the Value alone !!! Generic my arse.

Mozilla895659d ago

I liked it although I didn't agree with some of his points. I don't think every first person shooter needs a cover system.

I mean I did fine in Halo taking cover old school style, manually. I don't need to push a button to take cover! And Resistance isn't supposed to be super realistic, so I wouldn't take points off for being "arcadey" but the review is his opinion and a 9 isn't a bad score at all.

Kleptic5659d ago

I also noticed the 'gears 2' comment being thrown in there about animation...and that its 'top tier'...

correct me if i'm wrong...but they didn't review that title yet...seems like they may have a pre-concieved notion on where Gears 2 will fall...

either way...the score didn't really reflect the writing...seemed like he complained a good deal, yet turned around and gave it a 9...similar to what many sites did with Mass Effect last year...good score I guess, but i'll wait till I play the full game to understand what he was writing about...

SlappingOysters5659d ago

That most of the media have already played through Gears, Mirror's Edge, Worl at War and the other big titles still to come this year. Code goes out early so games can be finished, with embargoes preventing when they can go in mags and on sites

Lich1205659d ago

I know at the very least those guys have played the first act of Gears 2 (can't find a link but it was a news item a few weeks ago on here) so it is a valid comparison in terms of knowing how gears 2 'feels'. It might be a little less valuable if they compared it to the over all experience as Im fairly certain few review sites have sat down with Gears 2 in its entirety. Again though it may be a little unfair to compare a first person game to a 3rd person as clearly the Epic team (and they've said this) put great amounts of time into the characters movements and appearance since they're upclose and on screen at all times.

Jake11115658d ago

I played Dead Space from beginning to end.

- Good graphics
- Good story
- Gameplay.. ok... Some innovation with kinesis but..

- No online multiplayer
- No online co-op
- Short game. (Due to cross platform)

RFOM 2 getting the same score as this is a JOKE. Period!

I dont care if people think 9 is a good score or isnt. If Gameplayer feels DeadSpace is a 9 then RFOM should have at least received a 9.5 or higher.

Me thinks this site is going to give GOW2 a 9.5 and didnt want RFOM2 to have the same score.... hum? ....

Also as a note. I am not sure what they gave GOW1 but I am sure it is probably a 9 or higher.

I played through GOW1 a few times and it isnt even close to the size, graphics, AI, online etc of RFOM1. The bosses were commical (minus the berzerker).....

That's what I want to know

Edit:

That sucks. I can't say "9 is too low" or "9 is too high" since scores are subjective (except for fanboys), I just want to know what they gave to the last resistance because this one is not just "better in every way", but it's introducing things that weren't done before on the genre, let alone the franchise.

Is there any console FPS that has ever pulled such a massive feat in terms of Single player, multiplayer and co-op? To me that is a 9.5 unless they don't fix the glitches found in the beta which would make it a 9-9.2. But again that's my own metric. I'd have given the original resistance an 8.7 for having such an intense storyline and great multiplayer, good for a launch title.

Sucks2BU5659d ago

an old gameplayer, but they did a relaunch a few months ago and I don't think the old reviews have gone back up.

Drekken5659d ago

After some searching, I dont think they reviewed it.

SlappingOysters5659d ago

but I think Sucks is right.

anyway, the chances that it is the same writer who reviewed it two years later is probably unlikely anyway, so you probably wouldn't get the best comparisson.

I also think that the level of competition now is higher. Resistance 1 scored well against no competition. If Res 2 just as well against CoD; WaW, Bioshock and co. then it will mean more in context I would have thought

Tarasque5659d ago

Basing my view strictly of the beta i love it and it deserves a high score, but until i get to play the retail version i can not give a good opinion.

Kleptic5659d ago

it is definitely the most ambitious shooter to date...to answer you question, i can't recall any other fps that tried so many things at once like this...2 full campaigns...a heavily squad/party based competitive mode with 60 players (player count never touched on a console, let alone the AI controlled objectives keeping the thing in order)...and 8 player class based co op...also never done...

with a ~10 hour single player campaign as well...its examples like this that Halo 3 needs some credit...thats easily the only other console shooter to attempt so much...halo 3 didn't have the on paper options that Resistance 2 has...but it does have the standard of community features that are completely needed now...not just nice extras...and Resistance 2 even had bungie design and link their community website and tournament strings into the game...Resistance 2 doesn't have the awesome video sharing option, or forge...but it does have stat tracking, an XP system, and unlockables that put everything else to shame...

and the visuals I think are getting a little too much attention...Resistance 2 looks 100% better in every single way than fall of man...the lighting is now truely dynamic...character models are now motion captured...and the physics have been improved...its not going to set any standards (after all, killzone 2 has already set that bar so freaking high it something that shouldn't even be bothered with for the remainder of this generation)...but when you sit back and look at Resistance 2 entirely, as in the huge draw distance with so much shat going on at once, that you appreciate it more than just digging around for some blurry texture at the base of a collapsed building...

people keep screaming about the up close visuals of Gears 2 and how great they are...but I find that as simply a dissapointment more than anything...that was not what Cliffy kept telling everyone...draw distances are no different...there is some more stuff on screen arguably, but its not interactive like it was said to be (the 100s of enemies on screen in a lot of cases are just scripted drones in the back drop, in which they aren't charging at you with their own AI like Resistance 2)...

Gears 2 easily wins the visual war between the 2 when it comes it up close textures and stuff...but I still think Resistance 2 looks fantastic when you consider just how much is going on per frame...even in the beta; overlooking the SF bay and seeing about 50 ships, some huge, some fighters, moving over the golden gate, and bombing the city on the opposite side, all while you have 20 players on screen at once fighting it out right in front of you...and not a single instance of lag or a framerate hiccup...its incredible...and that is online...

First reviews tend to be higher.

We need to remember that reviews exclusivity is part of a business and IGN made a great deal of it with Sony. Having the first ever Resistance 2 reviews must have brought ludicrous amounts of clicks to their website. In exchange they can grant a few points above. Fair enough from a business stand point but not necessarily ethical.

We're going to see see more accurate reviews like this one down the road. Where business interests are not involved.

An extract of this review prays as follow: (Not my words)

"It is too generic to throw the types of haymakers needed to compete with the big boys, but it is not shy of unleashing a barrage of punishing jabs and, every now and again, a killer right hook. Definitely check it out."

I think this is what keeps Resistance 2 to be a Triple A. While it excels in the technical departure, It kinda lacks its own personality. Sony needs to work more in the identity of this franchise if they want people to actually talk about it, make fanbases and anticipate it for what it is and not for being an alternative to everyone's favorite Gears of War.

heyheyhey5659d ago (Edited 5659d ago )

and yet.... 9/10 is an AAA score

the game will be AAA don't you worry..

first reviews DO tend to be higher... but come on, with all that R2 is putting forward in terms of scale, do you think it deserves anything lower than a 9??

granted, an 8/10 from Eurogamer and Gamedaily is all but guaranteed... but their verdict is about as credible as a teddy bears... they could at least TRY and hide their 360 bias

EDIT:

valid point, doesn't explain the 10 they gave to Halo 3 though...

i could just be bitter over the MGS4 score... but it seems that Eurogamer prefer the 360

while Eurogamer's bias is arguable, undeniable bias can be found in Gamedaily- in one of their "Top 10" articles they claimed that the 360 is the best console of all time.... ANY gamer knows this is BS as a) you can never tell until a console's life is coming to an end, therefore touting a console prematurely as the best shows obvious favor for the console sans any objectiveness towards the decision and b) either the PS2, SNES or the NES deserve the award (Dreamcast or Saturn if your a Sega-whore)

then there's 1UP... where the credibility of the score purely relies on the reviewer.... if it's the dumbass Dan Hsu, then it's a no-no..... if someone a little more reasonable does the review like (i daresay) Shane B then it could be just about passable

Gamespot is somewhat of an enigma... after consistently underrating PS3 exclusives for absurd reasons (too much variety anyone?) they go on to award their first next-gen 10/10 (i think) to MGS4... but i think that was a one-off... they went back to their usual ways giving a 7.5 to WipEout etc etc

i predict an 8.5 from Gamespot

despite these complications... it would be downright criminal for the game to ultimately fall short of "AAA" status.... CRIMINAL, Insomniac put so much work into the game.... and as usual, did not require a delay to polish it up

and the game comes with 60-player online with NO LAG!!!!!!! and an extensive XP and customization system that surpasses COD4

Aquanox5659d ago (Edited 5659d ago )

I don't really see any bias towards Xbox 360. They do reflect bias towards genres in my opinion. For example, it's damn hard for a shooter to get more than 8 (Gears of War i.e.) but RPGs and racers harvest them itso facto.

If you're talking about their "next gen versus" I believe they give the more technical accurate comparisons in all the web. One can argue opinion but what they give if technical facts.

I do expect Gears 2 to get an 8/10 from Eurogamer but not due to any console bias but for the reasons stated above.

As for Resistance 2 getting the Triple A treatment, I'd say we need to wait. Remember how Fable II started up there with the highest, then it was taken down below 80s and only after the European launch, it went back to the Triple A-ish 90s (in Metacritic)

I'm kinda surprised IGN gave it "only" a 9 in the graphical department. I thought it was its highest asset.

Tarasque5659d ago

Man....everything is an opinion, a opinion is never wrong. Sure people might not agree with your opinion but it doesn't mean it is wrong. If you think the game is amazing and it is a 10 who cares what reviews say, brings us back to opinions.

PoSTedUP5659d ago

the review score has NOTHING to do with "AAA" in a game ok.

SSCOOLCHEA5659d ago

i don't care wtf the reviewers think. i don't care how much it sells . i don't care wtf you think . i don't care if they consider this a triple aaa title or not . All I know is comes 11/04/08 I am going to save the North America from this chimeran .Why do we get opinions from posters who doesn't have a ps3 or wasn't even in the r2 beta .

Kleptic5659d ago

good points Aquanox...as far as Eurogamer bias...I notice that, with some bigger titles, they rate a game usually lower than the average for a PS3 (MGS4 metacritic being like 97 at the time, and Eurogamer gave it an 8)...and higher for the 360(Fable 2 metacritic being an 89 at the time, and they gave it a perfect 10)...there are more examples, but I am too lazy to find them...

also...I would never say 'everyone's favorite Gears of War'...I found the gameplay pretty redundant single player wise...and Epic has A LOT of growing to do in terms of bring community features to online play that is almost required now...for example, there is no arguing that feature wise Gears of War 1 had a somewhat tacked on multiplayer...it may have been fun for many...but performed poorly (massive complaints about host advantage), had many exploitable gameplay glitches (shotgun charging, and locked chainsawing)...and the bare minimum in terms of stat tracking...

Gears 2 is set to do the exact same thing...a few new modes here and there...but no XP system, no unlockables, very little stat tracking...no in game tournament support...etc...

Resistance 2 may have an identity crisis at times...but it offers an insanely lot for just 59.99...its estimated that it takes nearly 450 hours to unlock everything in the game...that is not earning all the highest honors...that is just unlocking all the player upgrades, weapon upgrades, special berserks, etc....that is a ton of replayability...

I respect Gears of War for being the first game this generation to really push console visuals...however I also feel that Gears of War built up a fanbase in a similar way the original Halo did...because of little competition...Gears 2 is going up a much more experienced Insomniac now, and a much more impressive effort from them...Gears 2 will no doubt be great, but there is absolutely no arguing that Epic isn't just giving more of the same...very few new features, very similar visuals (its UE3 after all), some new gameplay mechanics, and a few new game modes...one could argue that Gears 1 was near perfect the first time, so why change it...fair enough...the question is was Gears of War 1 with basically an expansion pack enough to go up against a clearly overhauld and feature packed shooter on the rival console...Gears of War 1 didn't have anything in terms of competition at its release...the PS3 had no install base...and Resistance 1 was obviously rushed for launch...things are a lot different now...

SpecialSauce5659d ago (Edited 5659d ago )

how is it getting these scores. i played the beta for like an hour and got bored. considering the game comes out in a couple days the beta is the same as the original. its not that good. certainly not worth a 9 or an 8 or a 7. no lie IT SUKS. its bs that its getting these scores. im fine playing LBP. Im not buying this shyt

Salta_nelas5659d ago

Good score.

LOL @ generic comment.

Kleptic5659d ago

yeah i don't think a lot of reviewers know what generic even means...the game, and franchise, definitely has an art style and play style all of its own...the weapons alone give gameplay mechanics unlike anything else...the co op is different from any other title to date...how does that make the gameplay generic?...there is no competitive gameplay like skirmish also...when a title does things, and uses mechanics in a way that no other title has...it by definition cannot be 'generic'...

a game like Conflict: Denied Ops is something generic...nothing it can call its own...just borrows stuff from everything else and puts it up poorly...

MvmntInGrn5659d ago

Ehh should have been a bit higher considering they gave Fable 2 a 95.

pegger245659d ago

they are different games, my god, what the hell is wrong with a 9? a 9 is a great score,

GMR_PR5659d ago

@ pegger24

Agree. 9 is a great score, even 8 is a great score. I dont know whats wrong with N4G member, if a game doesnt score a 10 is crap.

BlackTar1875659d ago

I dont know whats wrong with people either looking for only 10's is a way top never be happy and disappointed. Some of the best games I have ever played got 7-8's aback in nes,SNES,PS1 etc.

Kleptic5659d ago

one thing is for sure...i respect Fable 2 in the fact that it once again proves that visuals have nothing to do with how good or bad a game plays...its doing quite well considering how flooded this season is...and it looks like a PSP game...

Resistance 2 could be said to be similar...it looks way better than a lot of shooters (not saying R2 looks like a PSP game)...but it focuses on massive levels with tons of shat going on at once...its like Warhawk on crack...which is a great thing...

seriously...Fable 2 was screamed about by 360 fans for nearly a year...and there is no arguing that it delivered...its right up their critically with Fallout3...something no 'enemy' would have ever considered...i have'nt played it...and probably won't get to...but it seems to be getting the scores it deserves...

My take:

Single player
3, 2, 1

Multiplayer
3, 1, 2

Overall
3, 2, 1

I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.

Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.

Eidolon725d ago

Resistance 1 MP will always be my favorite. Call it nostalgia or whatever, but that was my jam, felt more balance, natural.

Miraak82 725d ago

i have the platinium too , 10k kills in online ranked matches was no joke . Took me 3-4 months straight grinding but it was fun . To put it in perspective you only got like 25 kills per match if you were 1st place every match that's at Least 400 matches in 1st

Sciurus_vulgaris726d ago

I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2

GoodGuy09726d ago

Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.

fr0sty725d ago

Resistance, Warhawk, MAG, Motorstorm, there's so many first party gems on PS3 that Sony has just left to die...

P_Bomb726d ago

Never played Burning Skies but I still have Retribution.

monkey602726d ago

Burning Skies was about 3 hours long and rather inconsequential. You haven't missed anything

porkChop725d ago

Honestly, Burning Skies was shit. There's no two ways about it. At first I thought it looked terrible, then I second guessed myself. Big mistake.

darthv72725d ago

Retribution has this really cool feature where you could use a PS3 to link a controller to it and play. So if you had a 2000 or 3000 hooked to a tv, you can use a real controller. All of this predates the PSP Go's ability to sync a sixaxis to it via bluetooth.

Yui_Suzumiya725d ago

Resistance 3 was shocking and brilliant. Loved it.

Why Resistance Was So Incredible

While the studio is best known for Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet, and Clank, and Spider-Man back on the PS3 the studio broke from creating platformers and made one of the highest regarded science-fiction first-person shooters of all time. This was Resistance and it remains one of Sony's most acclaimed and dormant franchises.

darthv721081d ago

Agreed. Until they do a new entry, I'd love to get the two portable games remade into console versions. Maybe in a nice compilation with the mainline titles.

monkey6021081d ago

Burning Skies wasn't a great game.
It was only a couple of hours long and there was nothing memorable about it.

I'd love a new entry

darthv721081d ago

^monkey, hence why it should be remade into a better version.

SullysCigar1082d ago

Resistance 3's campaign was gorgeous for the time - and an awesome game to boot.

monkey6021081d ago

I remember being put off by it because McHale wasn't the MC but it turned out to be my favourite campaign

CBaoth1081d ago

by and large though the Resistance IP featured many protagonists (4 altogether I think if you include the portables). One of the reasons I enjoyed it was not being shackled to individual story arcs. Very rare for a major franchise.

Army_of_Darkness1081d ago

My favorite resistance game as well! It seriously had creepy, scary a$$ moments bro! It made me want an action horror game from insomniac!

Mr_cheese1081d ago

Remember playing this through online co op with the move controller and gun attachment! What a game!

BlackIceJoe1082d ago

I've said in the past I'd like to see this series return and have it take place years later, like in the present.

I'll give you an example if I'm not mistaken the last game ended in the 50s, so if it was to take place some time in the 2020s you'd have an opportunity to see how the world changed after the fall of Chimera and all the new technology that came out of that war.

Just like in our universe we all know WW2 happened, but we never experienced it, so if the next Resistance game takes place years later so too would people in that universe know a war look place against the Chimera, they just wouldn't know what it really was like.

So getting to see how that universe would respond to the Chimera reemerging would be interesting.

Imagine a little kid talking with his grandfather about the war and the kid just thinks it was just a made up bed time horror story and what was said was worse than what really took place, but now that the Chimera come back the kid will find out why years later the old timer adults were still waiting for the Chimera to return.

I think there is great potential for this series still and I really believe the best way forward for Resistance is make it have a time jump too.

So hopefully this series will return.

Dragonopolis1081d ago

Great Idea. I'd play that version.

Resistance was a great game and of all the remasters.... I would play a great remastered version of resistance series as well

waverider1081d ago

I was blown away when i played for the first time Resistance on the PS3. Great Game. Also liked very much an played for hundred of hours the Co-op of R2. The SP campaign of R3 is also excelent. I really hope that Sony and Insomniac annouced the Remaster of the Series and a new chapter. They got story to do that.

Jambola121081d ago

Resistance 2 was one of the first few games i played on ps3 and I loved it, would definitely finish that again :D

Chevalier1081d ago

I loved all the Resistance games. But part 2 online was amazing. The Marksmen for the Spec Ops type class when it was fully upgraded was such an amazing weapon. Oh man I wish they release all the games again and let us play part 2 online again.

Insomniac didn’t feel all enthusiastic at continuing the series after the third installment

I don’t see how them getting bought out would encourage them to make a fourth game when they could work on another new IP or a sequel to Ratchet & Clank or Spider-Man.

Plus the third game ended on a deserved bittersweet note with a sense of finality against the Chimera. It’d be soul crushing even for this series to make all those sacrifices go to waste

purple1011711d ago

Nah. Just a new killzone from guerilla games please.

Let insomniac do a platform game..

Gaming1011710d ago

Thing is, there can be multiple teams doing multiple projects. One Insomniac team can do Spiderman, another can do Ratchet and Clank, another can do Resistance. It just depends on whether Sony is willing to grow the team enough and pay for more offices to do more work.

Fluttershy771710d ago

@Gaming101 multiple teams like Bioware doing multiple projects

NiteX1710d ago

The last Killzone game was lame. And there's no doubt Horizon 2 is there next game.

Gaming1011710d ago

Fluttershy, Insomniac isn't Bioware, dummy.
There are plenty of publishers with multiple teams running multiple projects. Sony has several studios with numerous ongoing projects and teams. I don't know why this is such a difficult concept for plebs to grasp but the disagrees keep coming in lol

I prefer another Killzone over another Resistance

Brave_Losers_Unite1710d ago

I dont. I love killing Chimera

UltraNova1710d ago

I want a semi-open world(think GoW) greedy, violent and super heavy atmosphere Killzone with KZ2's controls/feel with the best weapon audio possible and full on stealth elements for additional choice of approach.

As for Resistance (boy do I love this IP) I think Insomniac could do this game justice if they rebooted or continued the story with a different character. I just crave for Insomniac's weapon design ingenuity! As for multiplayer, they can go all out on a BR mode with some asymmetric PvPvE elements thrown in there like huge Chimera beasts dropping into the map at some random point and the team who kills it gets legendary loot.
Man just thinking about a modern Resistance game with a proper AAA BR made by Insomniac makes me salivate.

PhoenixUp1710d ago

I love doing so too, but there has to be context behind it.

Killing the Helghast for example is entertaining gameplay wise as much as it is narrative wise because of all the lore behind it all.

The Chimera were said to have been defeated for good after killing of converting 90% of humanity’s population as well dramatically changing earth’s climate. If after all that the Chimera came back even stronger than ever, then would be far too bleak for there to ever be any reasonable chance of defeating them for good.

Movefasta19931710d ago

Killzone has one game that's very good(2), resistance has three.

PhoenixUp1710d ago

Dafuq? Killzone 3 was received just as well as Resistance 3 was.

And Killzone: Shadow Fall sold more than the last mainline Resistance game, showing that there’s more interest in the former series than the latter

CanadianTurtle1710d ago

KillZone Shadowfall was a borefest. GG has wrote themselves into a hole with the story for that game. I don't know how they're going to fix that.

Resistance has much better gameplay, world building, story, enemy designs, weapon variety, campaigns, etc. In terms of campaigns, Resistance is leagues better. But in terms of online multiplayer, I'd give that trophy to KZ.

I'd like to see them reboot it and go back to what Fall of Man was like

They could always do a reboot retelling like they've already done with Ratchet and Clank then do something completely new with a sequel

I'd love if they could restructure Nathan Hale and make him a better all rounded, developed character spanning the entire trilogy. At the end of the second one he could be transported to their world or something

Resistance 3 had a nice ending that closed the book on everything so I wouldn't want them to spoilt that, too many games come back and do the whole "Oh that great evil you got rid of? Yeah it's back"

Yobo51710d ago (Edited 1710d ago )

I'm still amazed at how little recognition is given to the first resistance from "fans" esp the narration of RFOM during custscenes. Cornelia Hayes did an excellent job as Rachel Parker she gave the world an authentic sense of atmospheric urgency and dread that I haven't seen matched since Halo, It was even more engrossing at times then gears. The multiplater on Resitance 2 though just looked like saints row 3 version of gears...
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Knushwood Butt1710d ago

The sound design in RFOM blew me away. Playing that with surround sound headphones was and probably still is awesome.

1711d ago
janus2251710d ago

Ah RFOM! The multiplayer was SO smooth at the time. Even with a 350 mo- 500 mo connection. That was my first online experience back then!

Knushwood Butt1710d ago

Agree. I think the series has run its course. I'd rather see a great new IP.

badz1491710d ago (Edited 1710d ago )

they can start with an easy one. Resistance Trilogy Remaster for PS4 and includes trophy patch for RFoM. there is so much win in THAT. BUT...ONLY if they let us have back Resistance 2 MP...THE WHOLE THING!

that would be one hell of a housewarming gift for the fans!

Inzo1710d ago

"It’d be soul crushing even for this series to make all those sacrifices go to waste"

I have always felt that there is room for more. For instance the Chimera could have sent out a distress signal just before the tower/ship blew up to the real threat to humanity or what if thanks to the virus Nathan Hale somehow survived?

darthv721710d ago

There are five games in the Resistance series. I think they could at least take the two portable ones and give them a proper big screen remake, like the GoW portables on the PS3 got.

No. let them work on what they want. I loved Resistance, but Insomniac proved they can work on New Ip and are hitting their Prime with the release of Spiderman, so let them work on what they want, and have a smaller 3rd party remake or remaster Resistance, and see if there's an audience for it.

Agreed. A new IP would be welcome. They've proven they can make a solid FPS, so let's make a new one!

Insomniac should do whatever they want, they deserve every freedom to deliver the game they want.

This.

When developers do what they want their products turn out better and we all benefit. When they're ready to do Resistance they'll do Resistance.

That's why they were independent and claimed to want that independence. If they wanted that freedom they should've stuck to their guns. Not took a payoff.

You're making it sound nefarious when this is hardly the case. There's a mutual trust here.

They know they'll be free to do what they want under Sony. Total autonomy - of course not, but Sony will likely approve and back anything they do.

This isn't to say Sony won't have any say - they'll likely encourage the immediate continuation of Spider-Man, but I doubt they'll mind and the fans sure won't.

Overall Insomniac is happy and trust Sony, or they wouldn't have taken the deal.

TheUndertaker85 - Haha, c'mon mate - Sony will let them do what they want. This acquisition makes sense on every level.

There needs to be mutual respect between publisher and developer.

They'll find that respect at WWS, this is good for Insomniac. WWS has a huge talent pool and they share knowledge and resources amongst each other.

Very excited to see what Insomniac can achieve under WWS.

“ "It's hard for people in any industry to accept change, especially when you've been focused on doing things one way for so long," said Ted Price, Insomniac's president and CEO, in a recent interview with Polygon. "But as an industry, we're being forced to become comfortable [with], or at least accept, that change will be a constant for us."”

“ According to Price, Insomniac's independence is crucial to its ability to continually adapt to changing circumstances and try new things in all areas of game development. "We've always loved the opportunity to experiment with ... early on, game design models; now, delivery mechanisms and new platforms," he explained. And Insomniac's corporate culture ensures its employees are always challenged to "think creatively about not just game design, but how [they're] delivering [their] games and what audiences [they're] addressing with [their] games."”

“ Insomniac attempted to combine its history of creating hardcore games with a new platform, Facebook, when it began developing Outernauts in 2010. Price explained that the studio wanted to try a new business model but still deliver an experience that core gamers would appreciate. The company turned to Electronic Arts for help with the first half of that equation, and it didn't work out because, as Price put it, "the monetization and viral features that we had put in turned off a lot of the audience that we were hoping to attract."”

“ "I'm very proud of what we did with both those games because we took creative risks," he said. "And I think as a developer, taking creative risks is something you have to continue to do, even if people are telling you that all they want is the same recycled stuff over and over again."”

I think he means that sony shouldn't be too involved when they are making a game, just trust them to deliver if they want to make a new ip

Fingers crossed for a RFoM remaster.

Fair chance any remaster would be done by BluePoint. They've done amazing work this gen.
