Fans of Dreams Are Devastated by Bizarre Beta Rollout

Push Square have written many times about how the Dreams beta was supposed to be a slam-dunk, but it’s been a bit of a disaster so far. Don’t get us wrong, there’s some really cool content already being uploaded to the game’s servers, but we can’t tell you about those because there’s a non-disclosure agreement.

Yeah I've been waiting for this game forever, and didn't get in any of the times for the beta

Harkins17211960d ago

Sorry man. Hope you see some nice videos when they can show it.

BenRoxio1960d ago

Those who are in the beta are having a lot of fun. They just need to send more codes.

Razzer1960d ago

Apparently they are rolling out the codes in stages.

isa_scout1960d ago

Yeah, they let 5 people in then waited a few days and let 5 more in.

isa_scout1960d ago (Edited 1960d ago )

I don't understand how people are agreeing with you because you're sharing an old tweet.Lol If you didn't get your code, you didn't get in. The delivery process is over. You're sharing a tweet from yesterday morning. They delivered the last wave of codes in the US at 4pm EST.

Jorjk1960d ago

The way they handled the beta in terms of communication was horrible. I do not mind that it was so closed. I am upset that they heavily teased and promoted the beta as if it was going to be a lot more open.

isa_scout1960d ago

This. I miss out on closed betas all the time, and its no big deal, but it was the total lack of communication that bothered me. They promised a beta in 2016 and didn't deliver, its now 2019 and as far as I'm concerned they still haven't delivered. Only 2.4k watched their beta announcement stream so its not like a million people signed up. I mean, this game was announced 6 years ago and we still don't even have an announced release year. This beta meant a lot to people because we don't know how many more years of waiting it'll be for the full release.

The 10th Rider1959d ago

To be fair, the game wasn't officially announced six years ago, it was just a PS4 tech demo at that point. It was later that they announced it as a game.

On the flip side though, the real kicker is the fact that the beta was originally supposed to hit in 2016, and now it's 2019 and they finally rolled out a very small beta with little hubbub and a non-disclosure agreement. Don't know what they were thinking there. This is a game that demands to be shared.

uth111960d ago

i thought the headline meant the game was a disaster.

beta access? who cares? i'm signed up, i didn't get a code. it's one of my most anticipated games ever, but I'm not going lose sleep over it

Razzer1960d ago

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Maybe servers crashing or something, but he is just whining about not enough codes (that are still in process of being delivered) and an NDA for a CLOSED beta, which is standard.

isa_scout1960d ago

The delivery process is over bro. And NDAs are not standard for closed betas anymore not since betas became demos pretty much. They're more standard for alphas, but not betas(open or closed).

bluefox7551960d ago

I never get into closed betas, so I'm rarely disappointed about it.

It's all of you fault for avoiding and missing news articles and not signing up for news letters. Some of you was too dull to know or get what this game is about

isa_scout1960d ago

News articles didn't tell fans the only way to participate in the betas was to sign up for some obscure newsletter. A lot of the most hardcore LBP creators didn't even sign up for the newsletter. Media Molecule intentionally chose the newsletter as their beta platform because they knew that virtually no one was using it. I follow them on twitter, twitch,YouTube, and Facebook, do they want my first born son as well? lol I'm still buying the game day one, but the way they communicated things for example saying, "There's plenty of space" on their streams only for 99% of beta registers to be left out is kind of disingenuous.

THC CELL1960d ago (Edited 1960d ago )

I was telling people for weeks and weeks follow the news letters on YouTube and more no one listened
I work for a gaming company I knew how it was gunna roll out for a least a year
Sony was gunna just open it as a public beta
Or news letter, sign up

Yes get the game day one Its a winner and also I've seen vr stuff, vr owners will be happy with game

If there was one PC version that should have existed it’s Dreams

I’m super glad they will be going back to something more traditional gaming wise.

Cacabunga21d ago

I’m sure they’ll find something creative to implement like Tearaway on vita. What a gem 💎 that thing was!!!

Abear2121d ago

My dream was DreamsVR and creating landscapes, characters, and sculptures using that amazing toolbox in vr, that would have been something imo.

ocelot0721d ago

I thought It has vr support?

Amplitude21d ago

It did but it came out as an update LONG after the game was essentially dead

P_Bomb21d ago

Dreams PC was the dream. Woulda given the game a much needed boost. Here’s hoping they follow it up well.

phoenixwing21d ago

If sony had any sense they'd be making a pc version pronto

mkis00721d ago

They probably ran into the same problem they did with the potential of last of us factions....the support needed was just too much to consider expanding to more platforms for a smallish studio.

Abnor_Mal21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I use to say this when the game was first releasing, many kept saying it would not be possible, something about the toolsets.

I said this was one game that needed to be on as many platforms as possible, including PC and Xbox just like how Minecraft is everywhere.

Goodguy0121d ago

Creation tools just don't work on console very well. It's definitely more suited for PC, and it's very odd Sony decided not to port it over. Good MM is working on an actual game instead.

Dreams Dev Media Molecule Says Layoffs Impact Planned Community and Curation Support

IGN writes: "Media Molecule has said the layoffs at the Sony-owned studio have affected plans for ongoing community and curation support in Dreams."

Inverno66d ago

How self sustained can DREAM be when it's basically stuck on PS4? I don't think it's even gotten a PS5 upgrade. Ending support for what is essentially a game making engine is basically death. SONY did DREAMS dirty.
