Resident Evil 2 demo is quite popular in Japan but the censorship there makes the game lose its charm due to the removal of blood and gore.

Well, no sexual theme for western gaming and no extreme violence for eastern gaming. Hmm, I guess both side have their own censorship law. Even I remember Shadow Of Tomb Raider was censored the blood and gore in Japan version.

MajorLazer1936d ago (Edited 1936d ago )

They're so weird in their porn laws too. Censoring the genitalia 😂 Yet school girls that look under age is fine

shaggy2303: Apparently that's a big reason tentacle porn is so popular in Japan. It was many artist's way of getting around censorship laws.

lucian2291935d ago

Well child porn was literally just made illegal in japan sooooo.

watchem1936d ago

Is Australia the the combination of both western and Japanese censorship laws?

PoSTedUP1936d ago (Edited 1936d ago )

socialism. i dont see too much sexual censorship in the west. ive played enough jrpgs to verify this. some of the skins you can put on these "women" is rather appalling. we can do without the borderline pedophilia shit if you ask me. im my western culture there is nothing wrong with sexual things, but we have laws and ideals (or whats left of them) that id wish we would keep. but im not in charge of everyone and wont pretend to be. a good game is a good game, some people are just more perverted than others and want sex everywhere and in everything that they do. it does have it's place in my opinion, just not like like how it is in japan. i have some japanese in me so i share about a 1/5th of their perversion lol.

warriorcase1936d ago (Edited 1936d ago )

No. What ever gave you that idea? The older censorship laws used to be a bit strict on violence but they have since changed that. The only thing now that gets questioned is drug use which is usually not much of an issue. Australia gets the same as America and other western countries get but I think the media likes talk about games when they are held for review or questioned by the board like we happy few was which gives the perception that Aistralia is very strict.

Regardless, cencorship doesnt really work here since it's all difital marketplaces now. Hell even years ago it stopped working. I remeber with the old board when left 4 dead 2 was censored for being too violent. I just hoped online and bought a US version, simple as that.

S2Killinit1935d ago

Not socialism, which has nothing to do with censorship, its called conservatism.

CosmicTurtle1935d ago (Edited 1935d ago )

It’s factually not socialism. It is not a left or right issue, censorship happens on multiple sides of the political spectrum for myriad reasons. Quite clearly and easily proved many countries have not censored violence under socialist governments and many have not under conservative or right wing governments. The present LDP government in Japan is a mixture of right and centre right (check for yourself). But that does not matter, this is clearly a cultural issue and not about affiliation. This will likely be in place whether left or right.

Also socialism is not the same as communism but that’s a different subject.

LOL!! Though they have no problem with nudity with underage looking anime girls in videogames.

UCForce1936d ago (Edited 1936d ago )

Red Dead Redemption 2 was also censored in Japanese version as well.

Edit: @MajorLazer isn’t that iconic ?

Blastoise1936d ago (Edited 1936d ago )

Wow that's a pretty big difference, completely changed the character models. Western version looks much better

UCForce1936d ago (Edited 1936d ago )

It’s seem Japan have a problem with realistic violence in video game. It’s just odd.

goldwyncq1936d ago

Just as odd as America making such a big deal about sex.

CobraKai1936d ago

So weird considering that it’s a Japanese game.

WushuNier911936d ago

Sad too, because the extreme gore IS part of Resident Evil 2's strong point since the original. Taking that away, is an insult.

The prevalence of parrying: Why is it so popular?

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.

REmake vs. Resident Evil 2: Which Remake Template is Better?

REmake kept the original style adding new flavour and graphics, Resident Evil 2 is a complete modernisation. Which remake style is superior?

TheBrainZ73d ago

The GameCube remake was stunning for its time but the new modernisation efforts are breathing some much-needed life into the older games.

kevco3373d ago

I loved the GC remake back in 2000-whatever. But I tried replaying it recently and just couldn't deal with the door loading sequences.

Have I been spoilt by modern games? Probably.

Neonridr73d ago

tank controls just don't work in this day and age.

Babadook772d ago

I think Tomb Raider still works but RE I'm not sure.

Neonridr72d ago

@Babadook7 - imagine an updated Resident Evil or Tomb Raider with tank controls? you can't walk and turn at the same time. It would be ridiculous to play.

__y2jb73d ago

Both are fantastic but the old style controls and the half way house attempt to modernize them in remake both feel extremely dated now. Taking away your preference for the various settings and characters, the recent remakes are objectively better games.

rippermcrip73d ago

I think anyone voting for REmake is simply doing it out of nostalgia. No way a new young gamer is going to pick that over the new ones. I couldn't even get my son to play the game for more than an hour.

KyRo73d ago

Nope. REmake has a totally different vibe, feel and tension that the newer remakes can't replicate due to the camera angle. Yes the original fixed camera was used for technical reason but at the same time, they created a feeling of dread not knowing what was around the corner. You simply don't get that with a third person camera as great as the third person RE games are.

FYouDad72d ago

Depends what sort of experience you're looking for. If you enjoy the old fixed camera OG style then REmake is to me the pinnacle of the form. Incredible atmosphere, visual style and a fantastic revision of Resident Evil 1 with additions that feel completely seamless. Resident Evil 2 Remake in an excellent update (especially running with the IMO vastly superior original RE2 soundtrack) with the benefits of modern design but I still prefer the original game.. it didn't "overwrite" that experience in my mind the way REmake felt like it became the definitive RE1 experience.
