People are speedrunning the Resident Evil 2 Remake demo

Resident Evil 2 Remake’s 30-minute demo is supposed to be just a single go-round, literally one chance to live or die, but that obviously hasn’t stopped enterprising players from finding ways to get around the restriction. PC players have figured out a hack to reset the timer, and console players are using multiple profiles to get around it.

Vinamal1964d ago

Fastest I've seen is 3 minutes.. waste if time if you ask me

ArchangelMike1964d ago

Agreed. I've never understood the point of speed runs (especially when they involve wall hacks and cheats). It seems to defeat the whole point of a gaming exerience. It's like watchign a movie on fast forward just so you can say you saw it in under 5 minutes. Completely pointless.

MONOLITHICIDE1964d ago

I can only see if you beaten the game multiple times or so and completed everything available and its your favorite game. Then maybe youd want to see how fast you can beat.

Concertoine1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

I mean its not the way ppl play a game their first go around. Speedrunning is about finding and executing strategies and exploits to beat the game in the fastest way. They have to play the game and know every thing about it before they can really approach good times.

There are different ways to speedrun too, glitchless categories, 100% runs, etc.

Personally, ive never felt motivated to attempt speedrunning but i do find it entertaining and impressive to watch.

sinspirit1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

Well, there are legit speed runs with no glitches or exploits, and then there are speedruns with them. There are also scripted speed runs for both methods where the moves are recorded beforehand to get those flawless completions. It can actually be very fun to watch , but don't think people play these games with intent of speedrunning immediately. They still play the games regularly.

Muzikguy1964d ago

I've only done speedruns on a few games to get the 100% or platinum. Not very many but I do agree it's takes the point out of the game. Of course, one would have to play through multiple times first beforehand

Profchaos1964d ago

Those old school speedruns like Spyro involved so much trilogy you just watch it like woah these guys literally know the games better than the Devs watch the speedrun insomniac hosted with the Spyro Devs all the guys that created the levels were literally blown away they knew the inner workings of files better than the Devs

Eidolon1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

Yeah, knowing the game and being able to speed run it comes down to playing it MANY times. First time is always the best experience. If you love the game enough to play it 100 times and get it down to a fraction of the first playthrough.. well, I never actually understood that kind of passion for something trivial. But there are some games I might play twice, when I forget enough about( or crave) the experience.

Hungryalpaca1963d ago

It’s just another challenge.

Vinamal1961d ago

To be honest, I played it and didn't speed run, but still completed it in 10 minutes. Remembered so much from playing the original

Lol.. I'm playing with lights off and a headset. Forget speedrunning, I'm just too scared to move to the next room even...

ArchangelMike1964d ago

Exactly! and that's how best to play it iMHO.

:D

Smokehouse1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

kinda dumb unless you are super hyped looking for an excuse to play more. I played the bioshock demo probably 15 times lol. Never tried to speed run but still.

rdgneoz31964d ago

Is the Bioshock demo locked to 30 minutes?

Smokehouse1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

No but you can’t pass a certain point and it was short. I just liked the atmosphere and kept going back to it lol.

fundy1964d ago

I've never understood speed runs as well, however, it's what some gamers like to do. To each their own I suppose.

warriorcase1964d ago

For some games I might be a little impressed like a Dark souls or super mario 64. I saw a little bit of some videos were it was done in record times. It was interesting to watch the surgical precision on every jump and move made, but only for a little bit as I skipped through the video. On the whole though its hardly interesting enough to care about.

Unless there is an achievement/trophy for successfully speedrunning a game, which this demo clearly hasn't, I really see no point in accomplishing such a thing.

The art of difficulty: What’s the best way to make games harder?

There are many ways that a game developer can choose to raise the difficulty in their games — but which ways are the most effective?

A great example on how to do difficulty in a video game is DOOM ETERNAL. Started playing on ULTRA VIOLENCE but then I started playing on NIGHTMARE after a couple hundred hours of playing on UV . What makes DOOM ETERNAL fun, is on Nightmare, the enemies are very aggressive ,but they give you the tools to defeat difficult enemies , you just have to learn how to use them .

FinalFantasyFanatic75d ago

Doom Eternal was so tough, but it felt so amazing to finish that game, even when the enemy feels unfair and gang up/box up into a corner.

Nacho_Z75d ago

Personal dislikes are bullet sponges and bosses with regular enemies thrown in. Just make the boss hit harder if it's too easy.

thorstein75d ago (Edited 75d ago )

I think Helldivers 2 really gets it right. If enemies are easy, they swarm. If they're high level, they tend to have good defense and need strategems to take down...or bait.

I never feel too angry if I die by swarm because it is usually my fault for not checking my 6. I don't even mind dying if a teammate drops a bomb on the swarm that is gutting me.

I don't like cheap deaths. When the game allows you to progress only to hit you with an enemy that is suddenly immune to all the things you've unlocked and mastered is just dumb. If the game doesn't do hit boxes right and you get killed in lame ways it is dumb.

The screenshot is from Elden Ring, a game I really enjoyed, but the scaling was silly. I didn't do the Eligtree til late game so it was goofy difficult. I thought the Elden Beast was rather cheap. Not a fun skill based match, but just cheap enemy. There was no sense of, "oh it defeated me because I did this or I did that" like all Souls/Borne games.

Crows9075d ago

Don't handhold. There you go. every game is immediately harder and more rewarding.

DarXyde75d ago

1. Intelligent opponents that don't have some set, optional strategy to win and requires more critical thinking.

2. Game provides players with the knowledge and tools about a game world to stand a chance (or at the very least, the opportunity to gain the knowledge and tools).

3. Don't insist on enemies having much more health than the player arbitrarily. Sometimes, you'll have more durable enemies who are armored or inhuman which I would say is fair. The best approach to this I can recall in recent memory is Naughty Dog games: You're extremely vulnerable without armor and can get picked off pretty easily, but your enemies are pretty beatable with the right weapons and strategies where you can't just brute force it. That said, ammo is in short supply, so you engage at your own risk.

4. Depending on the type of games, make resources more scarce without necessarily making enemies bullet sponges. It simply means you'll have to choose your battles carefully and have damn good aim. Like Uncharted. If you're not good at headshots, Crushing is a rough time.

The 7 Best Video Game Remakes of All Time

Remaking video games is not a new trend, but it is more popular than ever. Which are the best video game remakes of all time?

shinoff2183109d ago

It's a crime star ocean 2 remake isn't on this list. Jeez

kevco33108d ago

There's so many remakes coming out these days, I'm sure many people's favourites won't have made the cut!

jznrpg108d ago

I agree with you. It’s was so good I finished it way faster than I wanted to.

ApocalypseShadow108d ago

Where's the 2D love? Like Strider and Bionic Commando Rearmed? Some of my personal Remake favorites.

LightofDarkness108d ago

Those games were excellent, especially loved that Strider reboot back just after the PS4 released.

got_dam108d ago

Links awakening was fun, but it STILL runs very poorly. Slowdown all over the place.

DefenderOfDoom2108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

For a 90s video game remake I would put QUAKE 2 at the top. Nightdive did a amazing job . And Machine Games added awesome new content.

Soy108d ago

Dead Space over Mario All-Stars, esp since All-Stars was just a graphical upgrade. Otherwise.....can't quibble much with that list.
