Neocrisis: IGN changed the Fallout 3 Review *PS3*

Neocrisis: Is this becoming a trend with game review sites? In the first IGN review, they say that the PS3 version of the game has some major issues. However in the edited version of the review, they completely remove any mention of the PS3.

socomnick...inferior?
Excuse me?
I love how 360 owners get so excited over multiplatform games when most of them have been working pretty well on the PS3.

5661d ago
fufotrufo5661d ago

well..a lower score..and more bugs are enough to make it inferior right?

Bill5661d ago

IGN is very fair and they were fair to change what was an honest mistake. The Playstation 3 delivers on all fronts and is the only true next gen experience with its stability, free online service, standard HDD, etc. the list goes on.

5661d ago
DavidMacDougall5661d ago

But on topic i like IGN there prity fair

joemayo765661d ago (Edited 5661d ago )

I smell some B.S on IGN's part especially since their site is now littered with Fallout 3 ads on the main page :\

could it be that it was requested to be removed due to potentially damaging sales on one platform for the game they ARE promoting on their main page

check for yourself:

IGN.com

COULD IT BE GAMESPOT ALL OVER AGAIN :S

barom5661d ago

It's quite possible the first review was done with an unfinished version of the game, then they got the finished product and it was all good. Anyway, I'm sure IGN will release a statement pretty soon.

Tacki5661d ago (Edited 5661d ago )

The PS3 version of Fallout 3 is 'technically' inferior... but people try to make a much bigger deal out of it than it really is. It's like a person being a quarter of an inch taller than you and them calling you 'short'. You are shorter... but it's such a marginal difference that few are going to notice unless you're back to back. I find it a bit silly to even brag about such a thing.

Granted, that PSN bug is something that could be troublesome and needs to get worked out. And there's apparently some 'muddier' looking textures on the PS3 version... but regardless of the console (or PC) you buy it for... you're likely to get a great experience and it will essentially be the same. Unless of course a few better looking patches of dirt really turn you on. But just as with many mutliplatform games... some people try to get you thinking you're missing out on something if you don't have their preferred console. If you have an Xbox 360, get it for that. If you have a PS3, get it for that. A PC? Get it for that. Two of those or more? Well, you've got options and it's up to you what to go for.

I personally got it for my PS3 despite having a 360. I know there's some out there now, "But Tacki, WHY?! How could you opt for the INFERIOR version!" Well, I went with the one I FELT like getting. I wouldn't bother with any downloadable content and I don't care for achievements (or even trophies that much). I wanted to play it on my PS3. And being that I have more games for my PS3 I think the case fits in better with my collection when it's displayed. However, I did get Dead Space for my 360 because I wanted the Ultra Limited Edition. Y'see... that's the beauty of choice. We can all choose and nobody's 'wrong' for choosing one edition over another.

I know the fanboys will never stop... as a gamer it's sad to see the focus really being taken off the game. Instead of talking about what a great experience we're having or could have... we get this childish 'my console can beat up your console' behavior. It's almost disheartening. I thought gamers play games... not analyze pixels.

I just don't understand why some people are concerned about what others are getting from their gaming experience. I've said it many times... whether another person has it worse or better... it won't change YOUR experience in the least. If it somehow can then we should all be worried about whether or not we have the BEST tv out there and the BEST surround sound system. Why it would be so bad for some to accept that we're all going to get what is potentially a very good game is beyond my comprehension.

TheExecutive5661d ago

that depends on whether it really effects the experience. If it does then yes, if it is just a bunch of picky no-life

Pika-pie5661d ago

The bug must have been in there review build only and not in the retail version. Bethesa probebly advised them of this and they took it out, honest mistake!

sumguy815661d ago

@ultimolu
@Bill

grow up

@ everyone else.......review build??? come on! that's the dumbest fanboy excuse ever. and you have to realize how silly you sound trying to cover for your system of choice. they gave them the review build (a week in advance) and it just happened to have special bugs??? i don't know about you, but if i were making a product and wanted good reviews from the "reputable" websites, i wouldn't send them some inferior product. i'd send the best possible one. That's why McDonalds advertisements show a burger that looks 10x better than what you order. you let EVERYONE see the best you have to offer, then gives them something a li'l bit more inferior once they are sold on said product.

i don't know why they changed their review, but i know it wasn't because they got one disc that had errors, then 3 days later had a new disc and re-reviewed it.

i am getting incredibly sick of these fanboys trying to cover for their system like it's their child and he just killed the neighbors dog. it makes no sense. if your system is consistently churning out inferior 3rd party products, maybe it's time to take a hard look at your loyalties and move on to where the better software goes. this fanboy nonsense has played its course. it's beat. nobody with any shred of dignity would ever stand up for a corporation when they only think of you as a demographic and a dollar sign. and nobody with any intelligence would constantly seek out reasons for them not to be upset about investing money in a company or system that has time and time again let them down. it's time for the 25 year old gamers to stop being 14 and start acting their age.

in this case (fallout 3) and so many other cases we've heard that one system has the better game, and yet somehow, you fanboys find some weird justification to "solve" the problem.

get over it.

p.s. i never took a side with any system here, but i know all the retard fanboys on this site will report me for spam or whatever. and i'm pretty sure the fanboy mods on this site will remove the comment. but for those that get to see it, just keep in mind, that when i have 2 bubbles it's not because i'm a fanboy (i own both systems), it's because if you are in favor of 360 or neutral on this site, you are basically screwed out of ever getting to express a balanced opinion or an anti-sony one. it's a joke.

watchem5661d ago

I have never seen the word "inferior" being used so much =_=
Anyway I'm getting Fallout 3 for my PS3 : D

jtucker785661d ago

Everyone listen to Tacki.

He speaks the truth!

Bubbles mate.

ultimolu5661d ago

sumguy.

How about telling 360 owners to grow up? Look how they're abusing the disagree system just because they can't provide a legitimate argument to back it up.

cwir5661d ago

"i never took a side with any system here"

Yeah, right :D

"nobody with any shred of dignity would ever stand up for a corporation when they only think of you as a demographic and a dollar sign. and nobody with any intelligence would constantly seek out reasons for them not to be upset about investing money in a company or system that has time and time again let them down."

Now I'm confused. I thought you were bashing Sony :)

MiloGarret5661d ago

Clearly, he is.

I recently said IGN was my only trusted review site, but it's quickly going downhill it appears, even though Tacki is probably right and the issues were pretty small... IGN apparently believed them to be significant enough to be mentioned in the review at first, then, probably due to pressure from X person/company/whatever, they changed it, WRONG thing to do.

Oh and before you all start defending the change of the review, remember what you were all saying a week ago with Fable II's reviews, huh?

Sigmund Droid5661d ago

Well your point was very well researched and well written, your analogy fails to do justice of the 'technical' inferiority. Fallout 3 freezes for a second or two when anything that has to do with PSN pops up, and it also gets blurry at some points. It's not a quarter of an inch difference, it's more of a 1" or 1 1/2" difference, freezing is not a minuscule difference, neither is blurriness.

I agree with everything else in your comment though.

cwir5661d ago

"Clearly, he is."

That was a joke. I know he was. But the sentence I quoted sounded more like it was about MS :)

MiloGarret5661d ago

I know man... I was trying (and apparently failing miserably) to be funny. Lol.

sumguy815660d ago (Edited 5660d ago )

if that were at all true, you'd have less than 5 bubbles. it's is quite clear on this site that if you are anything but a sony loyalist you are going to eventually lose your bubbles.

i had 5 bubbles 2 days ago, i've said one thing that was against sony and NOT pro 360 and i've lost 2 bubbles. in fact, i didn't even go against sony, i went against fanboys who hold loyalty to a corporation.

this site (and the majority of its members) is a joke.

Sigmund Droid5660d ago (Edited 5660d ago )

sumguy is absolutely correct here, you have to be trying insanely hard not to read most comments or you're a fanboy here if you don't see comments to almost fascist proportions here on N4G. It's ridiculous, the Sony side is more like East Germany and Microsoft is West Germany, there are no neutrals.

It's proven that Sony outweighs MS fans here about 3:1, no one can argue. I mean honestly, there's Mart, pp, PoG and that's about it. On the flipside though, I saw a list of fanboys on this site on some Sony Rangers guy's biography or whatever, the list was pretty big.

Also, excuses and spins are here are insane, on both sides.

fossilfern5661d ago

lol oh dear wonder whats going on here

Danja5661d ago

The review needed to be changed because the few minor probs they mentioned shouldn't have taken ne points off the game since in the end it doesn't affect gameplay or take away from the experience you would get playing it on other systems...

Why aren't the many bugs that are in Fable 2 being written about in the reviews nor do they affect the score of the game...doesn't make sense

Masta_fro5661d ago

sometimes i wish i was really really small so i could see all the tiny differences in console versions that fan boys love whining about.

You know what...ive solved it!!!

Instead of making tv s bigger, we should start making ourselves SMALLER!!!!! OMFG!

shawnsl655661d ago

TOOOO funny. if everyone were smaller. the FOOD crisis of the world would be solved! housing would ROCK. 1 house fits 100 people #_#. Only down fall to this would be traveling. How many months would it take to fly across the world ;D

thisguywithhair5661d ago

There is only one problem with that statement (not to get technical or be a killjoy lol) but it known that the smaller you are the more energy you need to heat your body. That is why smaller mamals like rodents are always hungry and moving around alot. They need the extra energy and movement to keep their bodies at a certain temp. Same reason why larger mamals need only a little bit a food per sitting. Their own body weight allows the body to heat itself with only a little enery output.

Sorry to get all technical and off topic but it is little things like this that bother me lol.

shawnsl655661d ago

damn u! although that is very interesting. i'm gonna google it thanks for the info :P

ultimolu5661d ago

No, but he does need a foot up the ass.

Sigmund Droid5661d ago (Edited 5661d ago )

Ultimolu, or shall I say Juuken, it seems that you are quite hostile towards jack who. Jack who's comment isn't even offensive nor fanboyish to even warrant a 'foot up the ass', though it seems that you are quite angry. It also seems that you are having some sort of an identity crisis suggesting that you are maybe ashamed or trying to hide something. Everyone is here to help, no one is going to judge or make fun of you anymore.

Are you being troubled from work, home or school life?
Do you find it hard to express yourself?

Please tell me, I think I can help.

How do you feel?

I see you are disagreeing with my ultimolu, you don't want my help?

I'm sorry I even asked then.

ultimolu5661d ago

Sigmund Droid...I love how you literally insult a brilliant man like Sigmund Freud by putting Droid at the end. It seems to me that you have the identity crisis my friend because you are a 360 owner who either holds a grudge against me, or lost so many arguments that they felt the need to create a name to attack the PS3 once more.

I'm perfectly fine dear. My comment stems from the annoyance of 360 owners attacking every single thing PS3 related because they're running out of things to bash it on.

Sigmund Droid5661d ago (Edited 5661d ago )

I see... Now, when 360 owners bash on PS3 owners, how does that make you feel? Angry? Depressed? Confused?

Well, don't answer that, you already said annoyed. Now, ignoring the fact that most people on this site are fanboys, you should already accept that fact that there will be no stopping of fanboyism on both sides, so releasing your anger is unnecessary without results. I recommend taking deep long breathes, and simply ignoring the stupidity of posts.

This is not a large conflict nor is it a war, it is simply a small ripple in the water, don't make it a splash is my advice, dear.

ultimolu5661d ago

Are you trying to analyze me?

Seeing ignorant 360 owners attack Sony and the PS3 not only pisses me off, but confuses me as well. I still do not understand this hatred at all.

Sigmund Droid5661d ago (Edited 5661d ago )

Indeed... Now I can't help to the fact that you might take this a little too personal, now don't take this the wrong way... I simply want to help. Hatred is human nature, human beings are almost instinctively born to judge, don't take anything seriously or personal. It seems also that you have double standards to hypocrisy, perhaps that is a clue why you take things such as this personally?

Ignore, and move on. Happiness and bliss will follow. See no hate, feel no hate. If my name bothers you, I'll change it to a little less angering, I'll start anew like yourself, only if you heed my advice my dear, it's only for the best for both of us.

karlostomy5661d ago (Edited 5661d ago )

however the 'Juuken' case above is a tough nut.

She has a 'ps3oedipus complex' manifesting in complete '360 envy'.
It seems to stem from early life disillusionment. Possibly her Uncle had promised to buy her a 360, yet didn't. The disappointment has manifested in severe neurosis. Occasionaly this spills over into unadulterated psychosis - much to the detriment of the n4g community.

You might like to explore about her traumatic experience of getting banned from another website for hysterical outbursts.
I believe she has not recovered and may need medication for Post traumatic stress disorder.

She seems forever stuck at the phallic stage of development, as can be observed by her almost deifying admiration of her favourite, black, glistening ... ps3. It appears her procreative instincts have been frustrated and she is forced to accept an electric substitute.

What's most worrying, however, is her renewed Multiple personality disorder. She seems so unable to cope with her personal experience that she is forced to invent alternate personalities when things do not go as planned.
The most recent of which, is 'ultimolu' above.

Most unhealthy, in anyone's language!

I wish you the best of luck in treating her, Dr. Droid.

Sigmund Droid5660d ago

Ah, the PS3Oedipus Complex, I haven't seen such a severe case of it... I thought it was a whole new syndrome because it to such an extreme level. Interesting...

Now, Juuken, have you ever been questioning the existence of God?
Have you ever believed in God? If you believe in God, is he in your eyes a PS3?
Have you ever thought of having a relationship/child?

Please tell me, I may be able to salvage some of the real you. I know it's not you on the outside, the blinded fanboy.

IGN were always PS3 fanboys.

5661d ago
I_LOVE_MYSELF5661d ago

... because of some sort of blurryness with the screen... how many points did they take away (from both versions i assume) for the glitch that everyone is raving about? ...

Ju5661d ago

That "bluryness" seams to me to be an effect when the game goes in pause mode - but returns immediately (so to fast to really go into pause). The bug, that is, is it goes in pause mode when you get a friend status update message. No game goes in pause mode when you get messages like that. That's a bug in the game, wonder why they missed that. But this has nothing to do with a general game bug or bluryness or what not. Just a wrong system event handling in the game, me thinks.

But I haven't seen any report where PS3 gamers complain that the (released) game is broken beyond believe. Can someone point me to these complaints? Its just so strange IMO that PS3 "issues" are always blown out of proportion. Hey, I even played the Orange Box and before that I though that game is unplayable. Far off. It plays just fine. And that was the worst example AFAIR.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing694d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker4d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Now is the Best Time to Get This Incredible RPG Bundle on Steam

If you are looking for an awesome RPG, look no further. Steam is offering a significant discount on its Fallout Franchise Bundle.

SimpleSlave4d ago

"You can get all Fallout games in a bundle at a significant 20% discount on Steam. Individually, all these games add up to $244.91. With the discount, you can get them all for $195.91. That is $49 less than the original price. Quite a significant discount for such a popular franchise."

😊 😂 🤣 😐 - But why?

Just wait for a sale and get most if not all of it for a fraction of that price.

20% off...lol

Tacoboto4d ago

The games were just on a real sale over the last week or two for the show promotion. Fallout 4 was $10, 3 was $5, NV was cheap as heck too.

So what the heck is this

Inverno4d ago

The original games have been given out for free by Amazon for GOG and Epic, 76 is free now on Amazon if you have prime, Epic has also given out new Vegas for free and 4 has gone down to pretty cheap prices. 194 bucks is a total ripoff when you can get these games individually for less. Don't forget cd keys might sell em for a dollar less at times too. Come on man, us cheapskates won't touch anything near or above 100 lolz

Bro that's a ridiculous ripoff are you kidding me? 🤣

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast6d ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood6d ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK5d ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

anast5d ago

The game went downhill at Fallout 3's release. This is when they started to cut corners.

gold_drake5d ago

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.

anast5d ago

Usually, you have good comments but this isn't one of them. It just rides the mob. We can do both condemn the actions and not let them use it for other things.

I can say I received a death threat and everyone needs to shut up. People are not honest and will use horrible things to their advantage.

Armaggedon5d ago

Not all games “look” current.

anast5d ago

Their games always look like the gen before it.

Armaggedon4d ago

Yeah, but thats not the result of laziness, incompetence, or a bad engine. Thats what happens with their type of open world games. Its hard for people to find a point of comparison because no one makes games like Bethesda does.

gold_drake4d ago

mh ok thanks, i still think ur wrong in this mate.

anast4d ago

No problem. I'm not here to convince you. I'm only stating an actuality. What your words do if we look at them like events.
