Intel Xᵉ Kicks the Door Open to Challenge the GeForce-Radeon Duopoly

Intel's discrete graphics card for PC enthusiasts is real. Intel won't just address the pro-graphics and accelerated-compute markets, but also consumer graphics, challenging the duopoly of NVIDIA GeForce and AMD Radeon.

I hope they really bring the heat to Nvidia and AMD. Especially to Nvidia, since AMD hasn't quite been able to compete on every level. More competition will be good for consumers and the health of the industry.

Profchaos1965d ago

Given the price gouging of the latest i9 9900k CPU which has run extremely hot and undelivered imo and m.2 drives which you need to take a mortgage out on they will not take over anything.

sawoosevens1965d ago

Even though what you're saying is true an extra player will drive innovation.

UltraNova1965d ago (Edited 1965d ago )

Sawoo.

No and yes. They can easily price themselves out of competition. They will be far worse than Nvidia in that regard.

Just wait and see.

sawoosevens1965d ago

That's due to greed and when that happens they may make good money but in long term they fail because they stop worrying about the customer but rather the mighty dollar @ultranova

jerethdagryphon1965d ago

Yea they are costly and lack the pedigree of the others in gpu land in the same way I wouldn't want a nvidia cpu I don't want an Intel gpu

Weeblordbad1964d ago

You mean under delivered, not entirely sure Intel undelivered. What does a chip running hot have to do with price? Oh nothing? Of course how did I miss that! The 9900k isn't a great chip, but given how long we've been on 14nm it was never going to be a huge difference from the 8700k. You should have known that.

Intel's consumer SSDs have never been the fastest, but they're very competitively priced like the 760p. You're likely looking at the prosumer, workstation grade PCI E drives like the 905p which is NOT for you. That's for workstations, not for games.

No one is expecting them to "take over", we're looking for Intel to be a third competitor and to kick AMD into making something better and do something about Nvidia's complacency.

I agree competition is good for all pushes companies to innovate and consumers get a fair deal its a win win.

Dreamcatcher451965d ago

Is that what they teach you in american schools? All they do is staying att the same price range and make deals with eachother under the table.

Given that this is the first time in a long while that Intel is actually coming out with new GPU and basing it on older IP from Nvidia (when Nvidia sold it to them), I doubt that Intel will actually be competing against Nvidia at all. Their performance would probably fall within the range of Radeons, and I'm thinking that the pro versions would probably be the slowest of the three and would have issues in getting traction within the industry. Intel will probably use their strength in their market share and rebates of their current CPU products to push their GPUs to their partners to sell in a probable 1:1 CPU:GPU ratio with higher rebates on this and go to market and gain market share.

Also, with the history of Raja and AMD, there will not be any love lost there, and Intel will use this to grab on to the market share from AMD rather than from Nvidia as this will be lower hanging fruits and performance would be more on par. Nvidia's fans also have a deeper loyalty and will probably not shift over, whereas AMD's customers are more price conscious and would probably try out Intel.
Intel will be aiming for AMD first before they actually go for Nvidia next. It would be in Nvidia's interest to keep AMD afloat and help them win market share than to let the Intel hegemony get a foot hold in one of Nvidia's (and AMD's) lucrative market space of GPUs for gaming of which allows Nvidia to get the cash to spend it on their other more viable markets like AI, machine learning, self driving automobiles and such.

It will come down to the software. We already know they are going to have good hardware, but if they cannot nail the drivers, they will just be another AMD. 50% of what makes Nvidia so good is the quality and release frequency of drivers.

Profchaos1965d ago

Their CPUs have been a bit of a let down lately the i9 9900k was criticized for its high price tag and excessive heat and only gains 10 percent better performance over a 8700k that cost a quarter of the 9900k.

And the 9700k was also lacking hyperthreading and resulting in performance that was almost on par with the 8700k and in some cases like virtualisation it was worse than the previous generation

Weeblordbad1964d ago

Because it's not a new generation, the 8th/9th are the same thing it's marketing.

That's 499.99 vs 709.99 CAD, not sure where you're getting 1/4 the price. If you say the used market, that's not information you can share or valid here.

Profchaos1964d ago

@weelblordbad Intel have stated it's a 9tj gen chip many times.
Also I'm talking AUD where the 9900k costs 900 and the 8700k is 450. I realise that's not a quarter but it's still significant.

Competition is always good especially with TH r way Nvidia's been recently.

The Motorcycle was actually fun and the idea and effects of the Hordes was actually great. Sadly, the zombies in the horde have no health bar so they drop like flies, even if you hit them like once or twice on the knee. Also, no Head Shot Only Mode in another Zombie game.

In the end, it was a very generic game, with terrible mission design and cookie cutter everything. And with terrible writing and terrible written characters, the whole thing was just an Asylum level bad. This was just Sons of Anarchy at home with Zombies but somehow worst.

But again, the motorcycle was fun though...
