Just Announce Persona 5 For Nintendo Switch Already

It’s 2019 and with video game publishers no longer worrying about what games to sell you this past holiday, they can now focus their attention towards announcing and selling you games this upcoming holiday. 2019 is already looking pretty stacked for exciting new releases, even in just these first couple of months. But it’s only January, so expect plenty more announcements throughout the year.

And now, more than ever, here’s hoping that one of those announcements is some kind of Persona 5 port for Nintendo Switch

kenpachi1948d ago

Dunno why people think this might happen just because there's some persona dlc coming for super smash bros there's also snake from mgs 2 and cloud from the new ff7 but neither of those are on the switch. Also the portable version ends up on playstation portable not otherand there's the fact that the main persona series is exclusively on playstation. I'd say at least one of those trademarks also has to do with the second series of the animation due to it not getting the proper ending that the game does.

Neonridr1948d ago

plenty of FF support coming to Switch though. And I would be surprised that Atlus would want their character in Smash but then not be willing to work with Nintendo to bring some of their projects to the system.

Teflon021947d ago

That had nothing to do with smash. Joker can simply be in since Persona 5 is the most successful Shin Megami Tensei title. Final Fantasy games were brought to switch after the fact and more of for the fact SE wants to milk everything to the fullest. Reason they'll be on ALL platforms

Neonridr1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

@Teflon02 - but no Persona title has been on a Nintendo system. Again, why feature a character that has no connection to Nintendo unless you have plans to bring those titles over at some point. It would make sense financially since the Persona games sell the best in Japan and obviously that is Nintendo's stomping ground. Could you imagine how much a Persona title would sell on the Switch?

thepetedog1947d ago

Joker is already on a Nintendo system - Persona Q2 on the DS

Neonridr1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

@thepetedog - fair enough.. I didn't realize they put that on there. Cheers. Although the Q series is a spin-off of sorts no?

VenomaX1947d ago

Persona isn’t a part of SMT. Persona 4 Golden was when the Persona series went on its own. Joker is in Persona Q2 just like thepetedog said. So dunno where everybody is getting all this P5 on Switch stuff from. It could happen but if not and my guess is it won’tthen oh well. The game is an old ps3/ps4 game now. You won’t see Persona 5 anywhere unless SMT goes multiolatform. I’m sure those would sell well on Playstation as well

flaming_scorpion1946d ago

@VenomaX You do know that Shin Megami Tensei V is coming out exclusively on the Switch right?
@Neonridr (Great username btw) The Q series are spin offs yes but they do take place in the same continuity of the Persona games and actually link P3 and P4 (and presumably P5 via Persona Q2) together.
@Kenpachi Lets not forget about Theatrhythm and Final Fantasy Explorers on the 3DS

mikeslemonade1946d ago

Switch doesn’t deserve this game. Please don’t port it over.

Concertoine1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

Twin Snakes was a GC exclusive.

It would be harder to name reasons not to put it on switch, tbh. Its the hottest console in Japan, its easier to port to than the 3DS. Theres an argument for the vita, but the switch is more popular in non-Japanese markets which are still big markets for Persona games.

I bet an expanded P5 will come to PS4, maybe vita, and likely switch.

ShadowWolf7121947d ago

It's probably happening. Got someone who has a source close to SEGA, also told him about Yakuza and Catherine coming to PC before it happened/seems likely to happen.

It's gonna be funny to see the same people who dismissed it as a "dumbed down SMT" suddenly hyping it tho.

Protagonist1947d ago

More likely SMT V going multiplatform.

ShadowWolf7121946d ago

If you say so, but given the source? 80% chance it's happening, barring any sudden internal changes.

LegoIsAwesome1947d ago

Fallenangel? The dude who hates sony now begging a sony family game? HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA THATS HILARIOUS

Protagonist1947d ago

The struggle is real LOL ;))

pietro12121947d ago

They're have been multiple Metal Gear titles on Nintendo systems and Kojima himself asked for snake to appear in Smash Bros.

As for Cloud and anything FF related the franchise did start off on Nintendo platforms abd Square's relationship with Nintendo has increased over the years (hence why FF7,9,10,10-2, CC and 12 are coming to the Switch)

LegoIsAwesome1947d ago

PC yeah I can see P5 going to PC. Why? Catherine is now listed on PC. But P5 on SWITCH? IDK. PQ2 is already on Nintendo, hence joker.

flaming_scorpion1946d ago

Not only that we also got Theatrhythm and FF Explorers on 3DS as well.

AnnaDea1947d ago

"A marketing company—Ryu’s Office—associated with Atlus has registered several Persona-related domains: Persona5R.JP, P5S.JP, Persona5S.JP, Persona5M.JP, P5M.JP, P5B.JP, and Persona5B.JP."

Segata1947d ago

Snake MGS2 model was used in MGS Twin Snake for Gamecube plus Snake was in MG on NES. Cloud is not based on the remake but the older games and his alt costume is based on Advent plus before his smash debut he was in a 3DS game and now FF7 original is coming to the system.

pietro12121947d ago

VenomaX
The Persona series is a MegaTen spinoff. They were branded as SMT title up until the 4th title.

A P5 port to the Switch is more than likely due to Sega and their resources. One of the main reasons why the Persona games weren't multiplat was due to budget restrictions.

Sirk7x1947d ago

Well, all three characters have been on Nintendo consoles though. Twin Snakes, Kingdom Hearts on GBA/3DS, and Persona Q I believe. Persona 5 on Switch would be absolutely amazing though.

ABizzel11946d ago

The same reason western 3rd party games come sto both PS and Xbox, more sales. In JP it's Switch and PS, so it doesn't make sense for a 3rd party to miss out on additional sales or gamers experiencing their IP when there's another place for your game.

Switch will be lead Japan's marketshare sometime in 2019, so at this point all 3rd party Japanese games should be on both platforms. Also the Switch is more powerful than the PS3, so it's not like the game can't run on the hardware, so it's possible. It really just boils down to it just making sense because it's feasible and sales should be solid for an JRPG like this on the Switch.

DarXyde1946d ago

Kenpachi,

MGS2 Snake was probably included because he's Snake's most recognizable/ capable incarnation.

Cloud has been in Smash since Wii U/3DS. It took a while, but VII will be on Switch. Though he has no current history on a Nintendo platform, FF does, and soon, he will too.

I have very little doubt Persona 5 will arrive on Switch in some capacity. Whether it is a release with extra content like P4G, a fighting game, etc., I'm feeling extremely confident about it appearing on Switch.

If you're adamant, I would love to revisit this conversation when we have an answer. Care to make a friendly bet? How's a $10 PSN card sound? :0)

It will be announced during the direct on the tenth of January along with a whole plethora of unexpected games :)

thepetedog1947d ago

If Atlus made such a big deal about the March announcement, why would they let Nintendo steal their thunder 3 months early? Seems unlikely - but then again, I’ve not seen a direct, so not entirely sure how they work.

Sono4211947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

Everyone acting like Persona 5 is guaranteed coming to the switch because of Joker in smash are deluded. I'm not saying it can't happen, but using that as a reason to say it's a sure thing is idiotic to say the least, wheres MGS5 on switch? or FF7?

Kribwalker1947d ago

If i could play this on a portable (switch) i might be more inclined to give this a shot. Seems like the perfect kind of game to play on a long flight. I’m not big into JRPGs, but you never know, maybe it could grab me

Protagonist1947d ago

Persona 3 and 4 is on the Vita... go get a Vita... you know for the looong flight...

neutralgamer19921946d ago

No let's be honest you just don't like ps4 so if you can play it on anything other than ps4 you maybe more inclined

prankster1011948d ago

More port begging requests... Nintendo fans really are the saddest losers.

EddieNX 1948d ago

I disagree, that title goes to a small group of Sony trolls.

bluefox7551947d ago

I don't remember anywhere near this much port begging with SMTV.

Neonridr1947d ago

@bluefox755 - I remember tons of backlash and begging for Bayonetta 2 though.

GTgamer1947d ago

@Neonridr
Ummmmm maybe because the first one was on PS3/360 so the people that bought part 1 and liked it would want part 2 🙄

gangsta_red1947d ago

@GTgamer

So anyone who owns a Switch might have played the previous Personas on PS3 and would like to play P 5 on Switch.

Sounds just as logical right?

GTgamer1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

@gangsta_red
I'm sorry what the hell does that have to do with what I just said 🤔 why would i buy another console and expect the game that was only on one different console to be on the completely different console I bought🙄 I know common sense and you are strangers but come on.

gangsta_red1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

@GTgamer
"...why would i buy another console and expect the game that was only on one different console to be on the completely different console I bought"

I don't know...maybe because it has happened before many times in the past, just like BAYONETTA, which is now only on one console.

Basically what I'm getting at is applying your own flawed and terrible logic to gamers who just own a Switch but might have played Persona before in the past. Especially with Switch being hugely popular in Japan and P5 being absolutely geared towards Japanese gamers.

The fact that you think it's okay to port beg a game that's recently gone exclusive to one console but not the other way around is hilarious. Especially since Nintendo funded Bayonetta when MS and Sony wouldn't, now if you can send me the links of Sony funding P5 then we can have a "nintendo fans port begging" party. But until then there's nothing stopping Atlus from possibly porting P5 to Switch.

What's funny are the Sony fans here making fun of Nintendo fans saying they're "port begging" all the while just actually hoping P5 doesn't get ported. Which imo is even worse.

Sono4211947d ago

I feel like gangsta red fails to understand the premise of your argument, he should stop while he's behind.

gangsta_red1946d ago

@Sono

The premise of that argument, yeah, not much to understand something that paper thin.

XabiDaChosenOne1946d ago

@gangsta_red "I don't know...maybe because it has happened before many times in the past" its hasn't happened enough for it to be something to expect to the point where you buy a console that the series has never appeared on. You're reaching give it a break.

TekoIie1946d ago

@bluefox755

"I don't remember anywhere near this much port begging with SMTV."

There was for the Vita. If anything that was worse because there was demands from AAA publishers to not just port games but make full blown exclusives for the damn thing.

@prankster101, your comment makes you sound like the sad loser to me.

Why does it even matter that Switch owners want this game? It's a great game, of course they are going to want it, I want it on Steam too.

Getting annoyed because others may get to enjoy a great game, how selfish and pathetic of you.

Teflon021947d ago

No one cares about 1 title. The problem is if you look everywhere where a title isn't on Switch, they're port begging. Even in every article about a game not on switch. They always say it would be nice to bring it to switch. I seen a damn article about Persona 5R and it literally has in it. It would be great if they would bring Persona 5 to switch. Like stfu. Your giving an update article on an announcement, stop the bs. That's the problem. No one wants to see in everything about non switch games that it would be good if they brought X title to switch. I have switch and I think it's annoying AF. You really want the games just get a PS4. It's not like they don't have a giant selection of exclusive titles that you can't on switch anyways. Just like the same for switch. I bought switch for the exclusives etc I can't get nowhere else. While I mainly game on PC and second PS4

paintedgamer19841947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

Because, nintendo fans like to laugh in our faces when we want a 3rd party nintendo game... now you guys can suck it

Persona 5, rdr2, resident evil 2, black ops 4, kingdom hearts 3, ff7 remake, anthem, the list goes on and on... not comming to the switch except maybe in japan over some streaming service 😂

Now you guys want to be mad and act all defensive... priceless

Protagonist1947d ago

This is not about wanting a game for a say console.... it is port begging... get over yourself..

GameGod261946d ago

“But our desire for Persona 5 on Nintendo Switch goes beyond mere port thirst.”

Sounds a lot like port thirst to me.

“Having a Persona 5 character in one of Switch’s biggest games but not the game itself on the platform would just be weird.”

This concept isn’t anything new.

- Solid Snake joining SSSB didn’t guarantee that a Metal Gear title would be on Wii
- Mega Man joining SSB4 didn’t guarantee a Mega Man game for Wii U
- Pac-Man joining SSB4 didn’t guarantee new Pac-Man games for Wii U.
- Ryu joining SSB4 didn’t guarantee a Street Fighter game on Wii U
- Cloud joining SSB4 didn’t guarantee a Final Fantasy game on Wii U
- Simon & Richter joining SSBU didn’t guarantee a new Castlevania game on NS.

“It’s like Castlevania Requiem being PS4-exclusive after the Belmont boys’s appearance in Smash Bros. resurrected love for that franchise.”

The Netflix Castlevania series resurrected the love for this series before then. Plus Castlevania Requiem wouldn’t even even exist without SIE’s involvement.

PhoenixUp1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

The author is saying it’d be weird for Joker to join the roster and not have Persona 5 be released on NS. All of my examples point out that it isn’t weird and something like that has already happened numerous times in the series.

Nothing you said contradicted with what I stated. The respective third party characters’ inclusion did not mean that they would instantly have their games release on the same Nintendo console.

Joker, just like all those other characters I listed, was most likely included because Nintendo thought it’d be a good idea to put him in, not because his mainline game would be guaranteed to release on NS.

Actually understand the context of comments before needlessly responding to them. All your reply did was reinforce my point that a third party character can be included in a SSB title for various reasons without it having anything to do with a game from their series being guaranteed to release on the same Nintendo console.

Neonridr1947d ago

All of those characters have been featured on Nintendo systems in the past. Has nothing to do with new games. Persona has had literally zero representation on Nintendo systems. Plus these guys want to make money. Why wouldn't they want to release Persona on the Switch? In Japan alone it would sell a boatload of copies.

The 10th Rider1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

To be fair though:

Metal Gear is a massive series that's iconic in the video game industry. The series had games on the NES, Gamecube, and 3DS . . . so it wasn't exactly absent from Nintendo hardware. Snake is obviously *the* Metal Gear character to include

Mega Man has a huge history with Nintendo hardware. The franchise is iconic and Mega Man himself is obviously the star.

Pac-Man is an important part of gaming history and is a massively iconic series. It's been on Nintendo hardware quite often and Pac-Man is the obvious character to include from the series.

Street Fighter is an iconic franchise that has a fairly solid history with Nintendo hardware. I would say Chun-Li is just as iconic, but Ryu is the face of the franchise so he makes sense as a pick.

Castlevania originated on Nintendo hardware and is a massive and iconic video game franchise. There's lots of options to choose from character-wise, but really any Belmonts are good picks. They went with two that represent the series quite well.

Final Fantasy is again an iconic franchise that has a pretty solid history with Nintendo hardware. Now the characters switch up pretty much every game, so it's hard to nail down a single character that fits the best, but I imagine most people would argue Cloud represents the franchise as a whole the best out of any Final Fantasy characters.

Then you get to Persona.

No mainline Persona game has ever appeared on Nintendo hardware

Persona isn't anywhere near as iconic as Metal Gear, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, or Castlevania, and it doesn't enjoy anywhere near the same level of sales that any of those franchises do.

Similar to Final Fantasy, Persona lacks a clear character that represents the series the best as a whole. Ultimately Cloud was chosen for Final Fantasy and he's a great pick. If they were picking a character just to represent Persona's status in the industry (which is far below any of the other third party franchise represented in Smash), then I *personally* would have preferred a different Persona character. Joker isn't a bad pick, but it definitely seems he's the Persona pick because he's the lead in the most recent game of the series.

I mean, they definitely don't *have* to put Persona V on Switch, but the choice definitely stands out even among the other third party picks, especially considering we were told that Nintendo provided the DLC picks to Sakurai and then he had the final word. Sakurai likes weird picks and he's recently said Smash Bros is now about gaming history, and not just Nintendo history, but it would be an especially strange pick coming from Nintendo themselves.

1947d ago
PhoenixUp1946d ago

@ Neo

You really don’t get my point either. This article’s basic premise is that since Joker is in SSBU, P5 must come to Switch. I’ve demonstrated why that isn’t necessarily the case.

@ 10th

I’m not talking about why a character is included in SSB, I’m saying just because they’re included doesn’t mean new games in their series will instantly be released on the same Nintendo console.

@ DJ

What are you even talking about anymore? It seems you’re still not getting it. Naming prior games on Nintendo hardware that Joker appeared in is...completely missing the point...again.

I’m not talking about why Joker is in SSBU, I’m saying his inclusion doesn’t guarantee P5 for NS just like those other third party characters’ inclusions didn’t guarantee titles from their series to appear on the same Nintendo console

Neonridr1946d ago

@PhoenixUp - no you are totally right, but I have a feeling we will see some Persona title on the Switch. Perhaps even a new one. Japanese companies can't ignore the success of the Switch any longer. It's about to surpass PS4 sales in Japan, which is where these games sell the best anyways.
