Detroit: Become Human Developer Quantic Dream Teases "Great News" Coming Soon

Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream tends to take quite some time between releasing a game and actually revealing the next, but at the very least they seem to have some news in store.

zsquaresoff1960d ago

Hope it's a new game announcement and also that they have joined the playstation family.

Elda1960d ago

All that & possibly Detroit dlc.

whothedog1959d ago

I would love some Detroit DLC but wouldn't cry if it was a new game. But I do think Sony should gobble them up butt they might want to stay independent ass well so who knows. The waiting game begins.

Kribwalker1960d ago

This seems more likely then joining the PS Family.

http://www.pushsquare.com/n...

I think i’d be indifferent if that happened. On one hand, more atudios for MS. On the other hand, i feel david cage and his style of games is a bit overrated. Maybe if they started working on a different genre

Rude-ro1960d ago

😂😂 “overrated” ..
You is funny.

BehindTheRows1960d ago

Nope. They have a working relationship with Sony and are far more likely to be acquired by them (especially since they said they'd be down for it: https://gematsu.com/2012/03... Your best bet in hoping to play Quantic Dream's games is to buy a PlayStation. :P

OT: Definitely getting the acquisition vibes, which totally makes sense! Been a long time coming!

bigmalky1960d ago

Was about reply, saw it was Krib...

gangsta_red1960d ago (Edited 1960d ago )

I think Cage likes his independence more so than joining the Sony family.

I also agree his style of games while finely crafted, story wise are cliched and overrated.

I was more impressed with Until Dawn, a cheesy B movie game in that style more than anything Cage made.

With that said, maybe it's DLC, or maybe a new game announcement.

UCForce1960d ago

@gangsta_red But the thing, QD want to join Sony Worldwide Studio and they are willing to do it. And @Kribwalker, “overrated” is subjective, not objective.

The Wood1960d ago (Edited 1960d ago )

I also preferred until Dawn over the recent. qd games up until Detroit. What I appreciate about qd is their perseverance in the genre that many thought they'd not have another hit in.

The overrated comment by krib is something I seldom hear him say outside of Sony games. .yet he enjoys some weak af hyped titles. I conclude. . I Prefer good and overrated over crap but 'fun' I also like a little variety on my plate. I hope Sony finally snag them but it won't be the end of the world if they keep the status quo.

You should try Detroit Red. I don't think the demo does the game justice

MasterCornholio1960d ago (Edited 1960d ago )

@gangsta

“I think Cage likes his independence more so than joining the Sony family.“

Well according to Cage as long as Sony gives them creative freedom they don’t mind being bought by them.

Cage revealed that Sony has no involvement in determining a game’s content and that any decisions Quantic Dream makes is the studio’s own. “They never imposed anything on us,” he elaborated. “It’s always been the decisions of the studio. We seek the talent on our own.”

Kribwalker1960d ago

@behindtherows

You’re quoting a 2012 article. I’m suggesting something from just last month.

And i have a ps4,i’ve played heavy rain and enjoyed that one, i tried beyond on my ps3 and i got the plus version of it recently but haven’t gone back to it on my ps4 yet, but i will play it at some point as well as detroit.

@thewood
You aren’t around that much (almost 6 months between comments then a large flurry of comments) to even know much what i talk about.....When i say overrated, i’m talking not about the meta scores high 70s low 80s, which is right where they belong in my opinion, i’m talking about the fans talking them up like they are a masterpiece everytime. Look at so many comments on detroit, talking it up way more then the 78 it is. The fans over rate it. The reviewers haven’t.

The Wood1960d ago (Edited 1960d ago )

'You aren’t around that much (almost 6 months between comments then a large flurry of comments) '

I don't have to comment to be around.. yes you own a ps but like everyone on n4g you have a preference nor do I need to dig into a profile for proof. Sometimes It's very evident. The wording. Detroit was one of the best games of the year. Off the back of that Sony would be taking less of a risk buying qd than MS did with ninja theory yet I notice no term such as overrated was used when discussing their acquisition. . . Am I lying? Both studios track record is very similar yet. . . . . Get my point.. . . Wording

In regards to what red said about them changing genre. . . Interesting one. . .I'm not sure they're that flexible but we've seen what guerrilla games achieved. I'm not sure the stars would align like that too many times. . What genre do you think could they realistically embellish? How I see them is like PD or Turn10. . .focus on one genre to the best of their ability. MS even gave the spinoff of Forza to playground games meaning T10 could stay focused on Forza. Great move by MS btw. Some studios are at their best doing one thing. .

Kribwalker1960d ago

@thewood

just seems funny you’d not comment for months then suddenly come out in attack mode, just really seems off you’d stay so silent until now and then suddenly have so much to say

anyways
“Detroit was one of the best games of the year.”
and right there, you have killed all credibility and proved my point. Detroit was not one of the best games of the year. It was a good game and reviewers stated that with its 78 meta score. Fans are overrating it. Which brings me back to the point. They are overrated.

None of this has anything to do with MS acquisition of Ninja Theory. Nobody has acquired QD. I’ve just said QD games are overrated, and i’ve explained its by fans i feel overrate them. Ninja Theory doesn’t make cinematic qte interactive movies like QD. They make completely different style games and i don’t understand why they are even brought into this conversation.

XtaZ1960d ago

I don't think they would tease an acquisition like this on twitter, and would MS even consider a studio that had multiple people involved in recent accusations of sexual harassment, racism and toxic working conditions?

My guess is that they are teasing a new game that will be multiplatform.

P_Bomb1959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )
...which is right where they belong in my opinion...Look at so many comments on Detroit, talking it up way more than the 78 it is. The fans overrate it. The reviewers haven’t.
Wasn’t gonna post, but had to log in to say that particular thread and line of thinking is a bit arrogant.

According to your PS profile you haven’t played a David Cage game since 2010. It’s already 2019 somewhere. What position are you in to tell fans (ie regular gamers that play & plat for the love and not a paycheque) that their opinion is negligible?

I do see where Detroit could be more than a 78 to ppl. I’m comfortable with an 80 as I feel (based on extensive platinum runs of all the games I’m about to name) that it’s better in one way shape or form than Until Dawn, Beyond, Life is Strange, recent Telltale seasons of Batman/TWD. That’s how I reach my verdicts. Putting in the hard time. Never thought that would disqualify me and every critic who DID score it higher than a 78 (that’s how averages work) from being credible.

Point is: if someone dislikes something, fine. But don’t *not* play it, decide on an arbitrary score like 78, then paintbrush everyone who disagrees with that judgment as overrating it. Why even post on a forum with other people if that’s the case? Gamerankings, Opencritic, Metacritic, RottenTomatoes, Cinemascore, IMDB etc aren’t some omnipotent, god forged lines in the sand. They don’t even weigh scores the same or agree with eachother. So why should the fans?

crazyCoconuts1959d ago

Detroit was rated 78 by critics and 87 by users. I'd say it was underrated. IMO one of the best games I've played this year.

The Wood1959d ago

'Ninja Theory doesn’t make cinematic qte interactive movies like QD. They make completely different style games and i don’t understand why they are even brought into this conversation. '

Because we're talking about acquisitions. Genre has got nothing to do with it yet you focused on 1 game score when you were claiming qd/David Cage's games are overrated. I said both studios had similar records and with that there was no 'overrated' speak aimed at ninja theory by yourself. Detroit has made it on a few top ten lists so although meta may not of rated it highly, it was appreciated by enough people to include it on their 2018 list. Nobody was claiming it was the game of the year so your reasoning seems forced. Ps fans were shouting other games as the best evvaar but the point is the potential purchase of a studio which was the point of this article. You don't like their genre. . That's down to you but nobody is fooled my friend. You just find it hard to praise Sony or their games without some backhanded quip.

Both you and krib should actually try Detroit which has been their best work in a while

IamTylerDurden11959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )

Krib

"maybe if they started working on a different genre"

Well, if your anticipated Microsoft acquisition occurs i'm sure Phil and Co will see to that. Look at what they did with Rare. Motion gaming was popular so they forced them to make Kinect games. Then, GaaS becomes the new moneymaker so Rare is stuck making the disappointing Sea of Thieves. I can't imagine what might happen to QD if they were bought by Microsoft? I can't see David Cage selling his soul to them, but money talks..

"his style of games are overrated"

Yet you are on record as saying that Until Dawn was your favorite PS4 game this gen, or something to that effect. So you love Until Dawn, but you feel like it's overrated? Until Dawn and Detroit are the same style of game. Same genre.

"the fans overrate it (Detroit)"
"talking it (Detroit) up way more than the 78 it is"

Huh? You haven't played Detroit. Detroit deserves every bit of praise that people give it. How do you know it is overrated? Tbh, the media had issues with Cage and QD prior to the release of the game and many critics seemed ready to bury Detroit. Most who've played it would agre that the 78 Metacritic is not representative of the actual quality.

BehindTheRows1959d ago

Quoting a 2012 article while using common sense. You, on the other hand, live on hopes and dreams. Cage is happy working with Sony. The writing is on the wall.

IamTylerDurden11959d ago

Krib

I'm glad you mention the 78 Metacritic for Detroit, because quite frankly it is a joke. The sheer quality, polish, and depth on hand dictate that Detroit should be an 80+ at minimum. Of course i do have numerous reasons as to why Detroit deserves a higher meta. Do you have reasons why it does not? I mean real reasons, not the "Cage's writing is heavy handed and bad". I laugh at people who attack a game for actually including relevant, thought-provoking themes in an industry that repeatedly spits out such narrative gems as Crackdown 2 and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

gangsta_red1959d ago

@Tyler

You're really in no position to jump on Krib for using a metascore to back up his own opinion of the game.

Especially when you judge other games purely based off of their metacritic scores numerous times in the past.

"Until Dawn and Detroit are the same style of game. Same genre."

Similar style, different games, different story. You know exactly what he means by that too.

@UCforce and Master

I think if Sony wanted QD they would have gotten them already, especially after three games. And I agree with Xtaz, something like that wouldn't be announced in passing on Twitter. But, who knows. I still say it's either DLC or a new game announcement.

Dark_Knightmare21959d ago

That doesn’t seem likely at all lol

Dark_Knightmare21959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )

You say down below that one dude killed his credibility by saying Detroit wasnt one of the best games this year yet it has showed up in tons of year end top ten lists from many different gaming sites so I guess their credibility would be killed too huh? No one makes games with the amount of choices and divergent paths that QD does as well as being willing to kill off main characters unexpectedly and early into a persons playthrough. Detroit showed a real growth for David Cage and yeah it might have more to do with him having a co writer with him for Detroit but it doesn’t change the fact it was easily QD best game yet and has people clamoring for a sequel, dlc or spin off which along with its sales shows it popularity and how well received it was

Detroit was one of the best games of 2018 I hope the announcement will be about a DLC for it coming in 2019.

Si-Fly1960d ago

Best games of 2018? LMAO 😆I really enjoyed HR but since then Cage has lost the plot. Literally.

johndoe112111959d ago

i'm gonna bet it's them joining sony world wide studios.

Goldenhawk5211960d ago

I really enjoyed this game alot and it didn't feel rushed at all!

Guyfamily9991959d ago

You can really tell that the devs poured their hearts into it. So much polish and it really pulled off the choose your own adventure style better than most... so many different endings too!

MrSec841960d ago

Probably their next game, they were there to show a tease at the PS4 reveal, they'll likely be there when PS5 gets revealed, likely in the spring of 2019.

I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to join Worldwide Studios.

Actually, you are correct they play a hand in localization especially in Europe with the many languages. That and marketing.

Xbox Gives Incoherent Explanation For ‘Hi-Fi Rush’ Studio Closure

The gaming world is still reeling from the announcement that Microsoft is shuttering Tango Gameworks, the studio behind last year’s big Xbox hit, Hi-Fi Rush.

Relientk7722h ago

There's no logical or good reason to give for closing Tango Gameworks. They make great games consistently and Hi-Fi Rush was the highest rated Xbox game in literal YEARS. Closing the studio was just plain stupid and nonsensical.

notachance3h ago

It’s quite strange to not see Phil Spencer in any talkshow or podcast… usually the dude would talk almost daily when there’s even a bit of news from xbox.

Hofstaderman2h ago

Muzzled and/or in on it from the very beginning. You have to be a very stupid person not to anticipate that your division is going to be under scrutiny from shareholders after 80 Billion Dollars worth of acquisitions

Aloymetal2h ago

The beauty of being a CEO here in America is that when your company does well, you get extra money as a reward...
And when your company does badly, you get extra money to encourage you to stick around and lead it through the storm...And at some point, you get to bow out and float toward retirement on your golden parachute, which means and you guessed it, MORE MONEY!! What a deal for snake oil man Phil!!

Perhaps they think they can sweep this one under the rug, gamers will forget about it,

We will not

They made a good game and you put the whole studio in the bin, this couldn’t be clearer, ms don’t care, everyone suspected it, but now we KNOW it

Amplitude2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

She's kinda got the verbal communication of 3-years-ago Biden trying to say something he knows nothing about.
What she meant to say is: "We wasted our budget for the next couple years buying Call of Duty, and we're moving all our chips to that one series"

It's starting to seem quite obvious that XBox is going to be shutting down most of their studios or selling them off, then focusing on some sort of PC/Console hybrid OS for the next XBox where they can collect royalties Valve style.

esherwood42m ago

To be fair I don’t think there is a good answer, I’d rather her been honest but that probably would have pissed more people of then the word salad route.

Square Is Shifting Strategy To Aggressively Pursue Multiplat Releases,Focus On Quality Over Quantity

Square Enix is shifting its strategy to aggressively pursue multiplatform releases and focus on quality over quantity.

Yup, it's official. FFXVI and FFVII Rebirth didn't sell as much as they expected.

gold_drake9h ago

read the report, where exactly does it say what u just said ? lol

Barlos7h ago

It's your interpretation. That doesn't make it 'official'.

CantThinkOfAUsername13m ago

- 1% increase in net sales compared to a year with Forspoken and Octopath Traveller II, which didn't sell more than 3 millions combined (and I'm being generous).

- A 38.3% decrease in operating income despite the release of 'High-Definition' titles namely FFXVI, FF Pixels Remaster, Dragon Quest Monsters, and FFVII Rebirth.

- Aggressive multiplatform strategy one year after saying that exclusivity with PlayStation was mutually desired.

Sure, it's all in my head.

Sonic18814h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Probably for PC and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix games doesn't sell to well on Xbox

Extermin8or3_3h ago

Nothing sells well on Xbox that's precisely Microsoft's problem

The3faces2h ago

Apparently they don't sell well on PlayStation either.

Lightning772h ago

Square named Drops Xbox as part of their multiplatform approach in their quarterly reports.

Like it matters MS will probably find away to close them down to.

DarXyde3h ago

I mean, maybe? They'll want as much as possible and I figure they could have been hoping for greater impact on PlayStation, but that's good reason to reflect and realize the resources and development cycle of these games aren't very sustainable. The solution is to make more affordable games with shorter dev cycles, then once in a while bring out the big guns.

I think Final Fantasy VII Re make and Rebirth would do really well if it was multiplatform. Specifically, if Nintendo gets their hardware up to snuff, and the rumors are promising. I don't really have much faith in its performance on Xbox, but Nintendo gamers really commit to buying their games. At one point, Breath of the Wild for Switch outsold the Switch itself.

Granted, Zelda always solos everything except GTA, but Nintendo folk are avid Final Fantasy fans. I think it would do exceptionally. Nintendo just needs to make porting easy and inexpensive and they'll get more games.

Christopher2h ago

The two most profitable games for them didn't sell as much as expected. Yes. Make it make sense.

Hopefully the next Nintendo system isn't a potato and it can contribute to FF sales in future as well, in addition to PC releases. If this ensures the long term health for SE and franchises than like FF and KH then I'm all for it.

NotoriousWhiz9h ago

Adding Nintendo and PC customers is the best way to increase sales and long term success. Not going to get that from Xbox.

shinoff21834h ago

Hopefully square brings all the lose switch exclusives over to.

Hofstaderman9h ago

Will there be a XBOX for Square to release games on? Or a MS Games service?

thesoftware7307h ago

Hof,

You must not have heard they are launching new hardware and have already committed to a Next-Gen Xbox.

But, for some reason, I think you already knew that and wanted to spin a silly narrative; besides, why wouldn't they release games on the SX/SS? You do know these consoles will still be here, right?

Hofstaderman6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Optics. They have a STATED plan to do so. Thats not commitment. The shareholders and board are calling the shots now. Lets see if they have the appetite for hardware because they are owed 80 Billion Dollars already. Investment in hardware, R and D and marketing is how much again? That cost with the history of their hardware performance....at most maybe a handheld. What I am certain of XBOX is finished, the writing has been on the wall before the studio closures. Its MS Games and they are not hardware. They are software because MS is a software company. Expect them to be folded in the Surface team.

DarXyde3h ago

*hardware

I believe they committed to hardware.

I hate to nitpick, but that's kind of the company they are. You have to.

3h ago
Aloymetal5h ago

No to both, not worth the effort, money and time on an already dying brand.

3h ago
thesoftware7305h ago

"They have a STATED plan to do so. That's not commitment."

Huh? What are you talking about? They announced they would be unveiling new Hardware this holiday season; how else are they supposed to commit to it?

" Lets see if they have the appetite for hardware because they are owed 80 Billion Dollars already"

What a silly statement, you think this deal was approved so they could make 80 billion in less than a year? This is a long-term commitment, a future-proofing of profit.

"What I am certain of XBOX is finished,"

No, you are not certain of this lol; as you stated, if they make even a Handheld in the form of a Steam-Deck that can dock to a TV/monitor, wouldn't that be just changing the form factor but still XBOX?

Closing these studios has really got you guys delusional; that is what happens in companies, in a changing market: you acquire, and you trim; like it or not, that is the way things are done. Lets look.

Where is the new Psygnosis with a new wipeout?
What happened to Japan Studio? Pixl Opus? London Studio?
Where is Zipper Interactive?

I can list more, but you see, closing devs doesn't mean your company is finished, especially when you have like 30+ dev teams.

Extermin8or3_3h ago

They won't be unveiling the hardware this holiday season it will be like the series x and s they got a tease at the game awards 2018. But no details until year of their release in 2020 lol

Relientk778h ago

Please tell me the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is still coming. I feel like I've been waiting forever for that game.

gold_drake4h ago

i think the juggernauts kingdom hearts (disney provides the money for that one) final fantasy and dragon quest are fine, the rest not as much

Charal8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Another sign that dedicated consoles market is in trouble, while PC seems more and more attractive to big publishers.

Having a good gaming PC and a PS5 myself, given current trend form both Sony and MS I am less and less playing on PS5, waiting for exclusives to release on PC, so I understand the logic behind the new strategy.

anast8h ago

Post those numbers. Then your comment might make sense.

thesoftware7307h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Ants,

I get that we don't know exactly without numbers, but come on, man, we can clearly see what's happening.

The console market has not grown much, the highest-selling console in history is still the PS2. You can play the " prove it" game all you want, but Sony's more aggressive PC push, SE completely rebooting their company/business, after being mainly exclusive to one console and showing a sizeable profit loss is telling.

PC is a high seller, and your doubtful PS5 dominant stance does not change the clear writing on the wall, straight from Sony's mouth, that they need to be, and will be more aggressive in the very lucrative PC market.

So, in other words, PC market is indeed looking more and more attractive to Pubs.

anast6h ago

@730

Numbers?

I'm willing to bet the farm that ¨PC gamers are not the dominate number compared to console, but I don't know because I don't have numbers. However, the price point of entry can allow us to infer what I had just stated.
