Capcom has pulled in-game ads from 'Street Fighter V,' but it's not clear if this is due to the backlash or just a temporary move.

"Ono also suggested that Capcom was looking to "improve" the feature."

Awesome news!!!

Snookies121958d ago

Yeah, let's have the ads playing while we fight! That's what fans are really clamoring for! The sad thing is, I'm scared Capcom might see my comment and actually think that's a good idea...

gangsta_red1958d ago

I'm really hoping for actual commercials in between rounds. That will get me two extra grind points

rainslacker1956d ago

M. Bison stops to drink an ice cold pepsi sounds appropriate.

Sirk7x1957d ago

In fifteen years: "If you let us directly control your mind and inject you with the pure desire to buy our affiliates' advertised products, you can do temporary extra damage with your character! Wow!"

IamTylerDurden11957d ago (Edited 1957d ago )

Hey, Microsoft using Kinect to spy on people and selling user data to the highest bidder was an actual reality. We joke, but nefarious things have been going on for some time.

jwillj2k41957d ago

“our new ‘autonomous enhancement’ feature allows the computer to play the game for you! Long gone are the boring days of holding controllers and pushing buttons! Enjoy the experience of in-game commercials from our supporting sponsors while your character dukes it out with the best of ‘em behind the scenes!”

IamTylerDurden11957d ago

These ads are unfortunate, but this trend has been building for quite a while. I remember last gen when Microsoft updated the UI and suddenly every time you used the dashboard you were inundated with obnoxious ads. Unfortunately, this bold move by the kings of capital ushered in a new era of annoying ads. Not to be outdone by their previous efforts Microsoft went on to employ some truly heinous methods in their next gen offering. XB1 and Kinect combined to spy, steal data, and ultimately get rich off you.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1957d ago

You seem to be upset with MS for some reason. You’ve made two post and both are somehow bringing MS into the conversation when this article is about Capcom which you have failed to mention. Go troll somewhere else.

gangsta_red1957d ago

Tyler, I get it, I really do, you hate Microsoft. And any game, company or anything associated, even in passing, with Sony you're sworn to defend.

But you seriously don't have to try this hard. Especially bringing up fake news that never happened.

rainslacker1956d ago

Targeting ads was actually a selling feature of the X1 at the reveal.

But that said, this is a Capcom thing, and I can see why people are upset about it. Even though it's optional.

SegaGamer1957d ago

Me too. I said it in another thread, but can you imagine how bad things could be in another 10 years time if this continues?

Street Fighter V is a joke of a game and shows Capcom at their worst. The worst part is that it's gone largely unnoticed when the likes of EA have been ripped apart for games like Battlefront 2.

Ad's, multiple season passes (because paying once for a few characters just isn't enough for them) other bits of DLC that isn't part of the season pass.

I hate it, and I hate what gaming has turned into.

rainslacker1956d ago

Don't be scared. Just click on the in game "snuggle bunny pillow" and you'll always have a safe place to hide when a game gets too scary. Pre-order now, and get a free exclusive in-game ad not available to anyone else. It's an extra two seconds of the company logo, all displayed in the game title's graphic font!!!!

gamer78041957d ago

just make sfvi please and end sfv's misery...

IamTylerDurden11957d ago (Edited 1957d ago )

It's unfortunate that this bs surrounds SFV because it's actually an excellent game at its core. The visuals are excellent and the gameplay is superb. I can't offer much on the netcode, but when SFV Rre-released as SFV Arcade it received rave reviews. Unfortunately the game didn't sell like MHW so i suppose they felt the need to suppliment funds in other ways..

gamer78041957d ago (Edited 1957d ago )

they also botched its launch with single player campaign controversy, also releasing on only one console and pc is limiting, then the ads in game etc. The visuals do look good, well after they fixed cammy's face after complaints.

Evilryusam1957d ago

While they might've fixed cammy's face, my boi ken paid the ultimate price ; ;

gamer78041956d ago

yah true, like final fantasy xv, I just want them to start over.

ILostMyMind1956d ago

SF5 is an excellent game and It will be fine until next gen.

Kosic1957d ago (Edited 1957d ago )

I could understand if they made adverts optional and it was only to advertise a game event (world championship of X game) and it rewards players to view the content. But unsure how the ads were in Sf5 as never played.

But if it was forced then it's not acceptable on a pay to own game. But this is the sort of thing you expect from Crapcom.

l3w1s1957d ago

If you are "unsure" - do your research. It was optional and only advertised Capcom Cup.

VTKC1957d ago

I witnessed a full screen ad while i was on Killing floor 2. Totally different game but my point is it looks like a whole new wave of bullshit could be heading into games. You pay for a video game yet you are shown an ad. WTF

EA says largest Battlefield team yet is building ‘another tremendous live service’

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson stated in a recent EA Earnings Call, that the next Battlefield "it is going to be another tremendous live service.”

Another? ANOTHER?

Is he honestly trying to make out like the last Battlefield was a huge success, not just as a game but as a live service game? I'm sure these guys live in their own echo chambers, they are so far removed from reality or they just like talking out of their arse trying to rewrite history.

Also why say such a tone deaf statement when you know the state of live service games at the minute and how many gamers feel about them. Bigging up the next BF game as live service does not give me any excitement or hype.

''is building ‘another tremendous LIE service’''

just_looken2h ago

This is nothing too new
https://www.eurogamer.net/e...

They had plans of a universe of live service games

Also these studios made 2042 there is no new massive team its the same team
https://www.eurogamer.net/t...

Well same team minus the seattle boys that were canned
https://gamerant.com/ea-bat...

This is all again same news different year but it seems very few remember what happened before covid.

RaidenBlack1d 4h ago

Just make another Battlefield 2 ... or BadCompany 3 ... EA

XiNatsuDragnel1d 3h ago

Bad company 3 instead of live service bs

wow haha.

i dont think he will resign. or will be kicked off.

if hes still here after everything in the past, this wont affect him unfortunately.

RhinoGamer886h ago

He and his cronies have a sweet deal. Even if they are fired, stock options and parachutes will mean they never need to work again. Cronyism at its worst.

neutralgamer19924h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I think his days are numbered TBH. Spending 80 million of all acquisitions yet can’t even compete with others it’s insane

This also proves gamepass isn’t as profitable as Xbox fanboys make it out to be

RaidenBlack4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

That huge Acti-Blizz acquisition wasn't worth it ... They should've stopped at Zenimax and instead focused "rescuing" individual studios like Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, Crytek, Volition or Gearbox etc (much better than trying to devour the whole of one of the largest gaming publisher)
IMHO, with no $70 Billion deficit, these studio closures would not have happened ...

Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, Avowed, Towerborne, and Call of Duty are still to be released this year. Marcus Fenix collection to be added to the list with the Xbox showcase, hopefully.

anast16h ago

Those are all coming to PS5 too.

Tech511h ago

"Xbox Has Had More Studio Closures Than First Party Game Releases So Far In 2024"

they kept the IPs though. they'll be making them under the MS brand i'm guessing. like minecraft all those years ago.

solideagle15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

the keyword is so Far...

on topic: Ouch!

Hedstrom13h ago

Kinda missing the forest for all the trees statement!

shinoff218313h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Bet all those don't make it though this year

romulus2313h ago(Edited 13h ago)

If we're going to talk in "still to be's" there still could be more studio closures from Microsoft this year as well.

DOMination-9h ago

How much confidence do people have in these games being good though? I hope they will be (especially Avowed) but from what we know of them so far, it's hardly a guarantee, is it?

And even if they do turn out to be good, how much of that will be down to Xbox and its leadership? Most of these games were either sequels to games made before being acquired or started development before being acquired.

And just a note on Hellblade II - it is out in two weeks and unless I'm missing something, I don't see much in the way of previews or advertising from Microsoft. Not ideal for a niche game that looks like it probably cost a lot of money to make. It genuinely feels like another game being sent out to die and then have the studio shut down.

Elda8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

To me...Avowed graphics look cheap, the game looks generic as well as boring.

Popcorn is good. Anyone want some?

anast12h ago

I wouldn't mind a caramel and cinnamon mix actually.

dumahim12h ago

That does sound good. I have trouble just finding caramel corn.

anast7h ago

I find it interesting that people have to resort to praising how they were randomly born in a certain location to say they're not weird. But, I'm not sure this kind of stupidity can be generalized over an entire group of people, at least, I'm being optimistic here.

Eonjay16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

Sony doesn't have to bother fighting the next Microsoft acquisition. The massive layoff by themselves should be enough to get the next big buy blocked.

Hofstaderman14h ago

Vindicates Jim Ryan. Don't know who didnt see this coming except those frothing pro acquisition fanboys who are not commenting here for some reason....

Tacoboto13h ago

What did happen to Obscure?

Tody_ZA13h ago

Obscure is working on his thesis on how to spin this.

Elda13h ago

Exactly. Where is the mayor & spokesperson of XB?

badz14912h ago

Obsecure where are you? Don't tell us Phil fired you too

MatrixxGT11h ago

Let’s not pretend Sony is setting the world on fire with its first party either….it’s been crickets from them as well. In fact they even said not to expect any at all this year.
MS is a dumpster fire and Sony isn’t fighting anymore and it shows. I fail to see how this is a good thing.

Skuletor6h ago

Wasn't it no new existing IP entries? That would still leave room for new IPs, maybe we'll see one or more of those this year.

Sonic188111h ago

I was actually thinking about that. You beat me to it

MrDead15h ago

So if MS hadn't spent $80 billion consolidating the industry just think of all the games and jobs that would have saved.

MS is a drain on gaming and have been nothing but a negative.

MrCrimson14h ago

not exactly like the studios were putting out good games anyway. Industry needs to restart from the ground up; if games like battlebit or manor lords can be made by teams with 10 people - then there's something fundamentally wrong with having 500 man teams put out glitchy overmonetized crap.

shinoff218313h ago

Interesting. Prey was a good game, evil within was dope, and hi fi was the best Xbox game that Xbox has had in so many years. That's according to the base.

romulus2312h ago

HiFi Rush was a really good game actually so that's hardly the reason for shutting down Tango.
