Hitman 2: Cutting of Ties With S.Enix Was All it Took to Make the Best Hitman

Many of the older classics from Square Enix have lately been treated rather unfairly by the Japanese publisher. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was an excellent game but severely lacked in content, and as a result was met with poor sales, followed by the shelving of the franchise. Hitman had a similar fate.

Hitman: Absolution is still my favorite in the series

NarutoFox1949d ago (Edited 1949d ago )

And now Microsoft will acquire and purchase IOI from hearing the rumors

AK911948d ago

That's like saying my fav Gears game is Judgement.

-Foxtrot1949d ago

They are better off doing things themselves without a company like Square breathing down their necks. Good for them for wanting to be independent.

I didn't think Hitman 2 did many new things over the first one but at least it felt more refined and wasn't split into episodes.

LucasRuinedChildhood1948d ago

It's awesome that you could play all your Hitman 1 levels in Hitman 2 as well. Very pro-consumer. Too bad the game doesn't seem to have sold very well but hopefully it has sold enough to keep IO going.

Purrfection1948d ago

It's a shame too because it's very good. The levels are so well designed and the variations are incredible on how to finish them.

SovereignSnaKe1948d ago

Square Enix is the next company I sense will "Konami" itself very soon. In other words, go to "Silent Hill;" personal hell, face your darkest nightmares, ect. Ubisoft, EA and Bethesda are all at the gates as well.

V3geta1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

When you look at all the companies going down that road it doesn't leave much for us. It will be very interesting to see where things go within the next 2-3 years as the way they're doing things doesn't seem sustainable.

AK911948d ago

I heard Hitman 2 isn't doing too well financially though, which is a shame I hope that info incorrect Hitman 2 is amazing.

nommers1948d ago

And is why it’s strange hearing these new buyout rumors. IO can hardly support themselves, so cutting ties with SE seems like a bad idea. They needed financial backing and they got it before. Practices aside, Hitman 1 with the episodes was really well made. Hitman just was never that big, so they had to find something or someway to keep going or the franchise would just die.

AK911948d ago

From what I personally hear SE are the ones that wanted to get rid of THEM but I think IO bought the rights from SE with how much money they made with Hitman (2016), which sadly probably wasn't alot of money but enough that the studio had to cut half their employees.

V3geta1948d ago

Its release date didn't help as it was mixed in with some big games which themselves had a bit of trouble financially. The fall season is just too crowded for this kind of game. With how good this Hitman game is I hope it did enough to justify a 3rd one but with how expensive games are to make now it seems like everything has to be a massive hit or it won't survive.

dreamoner1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

Best Hitman is Blood Money. I don't like their "stories" in missions nor very limited equipment selection before missions which is tied to being always online but the biggest game mechanic they ditched was GPS map which was awesome; instead they are using eagle vision equivalent shit now for the past 2 or 3 games(did absolution have it?). tl;dr I can't enjoy latest 2 Hitmans.

Gamepass just eating a bowl of W's cereal this month! I need to sub for a few more years before the price goes up!

NotoriousWhiz831d ago

Agreed. Once my sub runs out in the next couple of months, I'm buying 3 years of gold to convert to Gamepass. I probably won't be able to afford Gamepass after those 3 years are up.

Crows90831d ago

Games with gold will be long gone by then...I hope...since its kinda useless.
Gamepass...I wonder what the price hike will be.

gamer9830d ago

Does anyone know if the trick of converting existing XBL Gold into XB gamepass ultimate up to 36 months for ONE dollar still exists? Also, i assume i have to wait for my gamepass ultimate to expire in a few months before i can take advantage of any promotions? Thanks

NotoriousWhiz830d ago

It's never been 1$ for me. I always have to buy one month for $15. Normally I just do one year at a time. So $60 for one year of gold, then $15 for one month of game pass ultimate and I get 13 months of game pass ultimate for a total of $75.

gamer9828d ago

Thanks for the reply NotoriousWhiz, that's a really good deal as well

Gamepass is absolutely fantastic.

Jin_Sakai831d ago

Best deal in gaming hands down! And it’s only going to get better with Bethesda and soon Activision games on board.

gangsta_red831d ago

Death's Door is seriously a fantastic game. I highly recommend everyone play it.

I have never played a Hitman so this is absolutely great news for me

GP just keeps getting better

Crows90831d ago

That's the title that called my attention. Also extraction but just to try.

Zhipp831d ago

I honestly thougth Death's Door was already on Gamepass. Wasn't it an ID@Xbox game?

GaboonViper831d ago

Hitman is fantastic, and you get the entire trilogy, GP is God like.

Elda831d ago

I guess I'll try Extraction & Death's Door.

What you do is you put your left foot in you put your right foot out........................

CobraKai964d ago

1) Download Hitman 3 Starter and Access Packs.
2) Download Hitman 2 and play via the Hitman 3 Access Pack.

SullysCigar964d ago

Better than that, you can play it in VR, if you have Hitman 3!

Profchaos964d ago

Don't even need Hitman 3 just the starter pack which is free.

SullysCigar964d ago

Didn't know that - thanks!

BlackDoomAx963d ago

Confirmed by the devs that you can't, you must have a full copy of Hitman 3 in order to play in vr.

Phoenix76964d ago

Whoa up.... You can play the entire game of hitman 2 in VR mode (psvr)??

SullysCigar964d ago

Yup - and Hitman 1 as well! They're both played by importing into Hitman 3, which apparently also updates the visuals!

BABI-PANGPANG964d ago

When trying to download the access pass it says 'Not available for purchase' and the only option is to add it to the wishlist.

Any clue what to do?

Armind964d ago

Try doing it on the ps5 store on the console itself. Just worked for me on UK store.

BABI-PANGPANG964d ago

Ah okay, will try that. Thanks for the tip!

BABI-PANGPANG964d ago

I can also confirm that this works. Wonderful!

Hopefully Sony doesn't mind this neat little trick and we can keep continue playing this game with a better performance.

badz149964d ago

I added the access pass using the PS Store on PC

badz149964d ago

and they are having Hitman 3 50% for PS+ subscribers too until the mid of the month
