Wow that looks incredible. So much talent.

Why can't Nintendo remake N64 games like this?

DaDrunkenJester1948d ago

Because they'd rather just port with a res bump and rake in the millions anyway.

zahdab1948d ago

They can out source it to these dudes but i am not sure thry can optimize it enough for switch and retsin this quality of visuals

Shiken1948d ago

Just like Sony and MS.

septemberindecember1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

@DaDrunken

How was Ocarina of Time 3D just a port with a res bump?

Nebaku1948d ago

Because they actually like to make their games look good, and not like half baked Unity "my first game" demos.

milohighclub1948d ago

This looks better than any game Nintendo have ever put out.

micdagoat191948d ago

I would love to play some of the N64 classics without them looking like total garbage. Same way I would like to play Ps1 games or Saturn games without them looking like total garbage

Neonridr1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

@milohighclub - looks are skin deep.

ABizzel11948d ago

Short answer: Because switch is bottom-end for current-gen performance.

Detailed answer: These N64 remakes are created and running on a GTX 1080 ti, a GPU that's over 2x more powerful than a XBO-X (which is why Next-gen won't be a huge GPU boost over the Pro consoles), over 2.5x the PS4 Pro, over 5x the PS4, over 7.5x XBO, and therefore over 20x more powerful than a Switch.

Realistically if the XBO-X and PS4 Pro had a decent CPU, then those consoles could run this with reduced lighting at 1440p@60fps and 1080p@60fps. The original PS4 and XBO could likely run the demo as well, but they would need drastically reduced lighting and drop the 4K textures, resolution and fps down to dynamic 900p@30fps in order to get the look of the game similar (more than likely 720p for XBO).

As for the Switch the texture work would be an even greater downgrade. Resolution would be dynamic 720p with the game spending most of its time well below that. Textures would be muddy at best. Baked lighting would have to be implemented. And character models will be reduced in quality. And with all that the game would run around 20fps.

Nintendo would need an actual dedicated home console with a contemporary processor (low-budget Ryzen / Intel 4c/4T for 60fps) and a $150 - $200 GPU (RX 570 minimum) to run this properly, in 1080p@60fps with minimum downgrades. Basically a PS4 Pro / XBO-X competitor with a significantly better CPU is what it'll take, which will be a $400 console for Nintendo, thus not going to happen since they want to stick with the $299 asking price.

So this will be capable on Nintendo hardware if they make a next-gen home console in the next few years, otherwise if they stick with handheld gaming we'll see similar performance around 2030.

micdagoat191944d ago (Edited 1944d ago )

I wasnt talking about the 4K part of it just playable better looking N64 games

-Foxtrot1948d ago

Hell why can't Nintendo make new Zelda games like this

Great graphics, better animations, a technical marvel with old style Zelda traditional gameplay.

Nebaku1948d ago

Because they're too busy making innovative artstyle's like Wind Waker or BOTW, that AAA and indie studios alike are still copying to this day.

But hey, screw that, let's just make it the 5 billionth AAA game to have realistic graphics. A graphical style the Switch wouldn't even do justice in the first place.

-Foxtrot1948d ago

Indie studios...copying

LOL

😂

Sure...

ABizzel11948d ago

@Nebaku

I get where you were trying to go, a good art style goes a long way, and can look good for generations.

But the reality is they focus on those art styles, because their hardware can't do what the others can. You can make a game focused on realism with the Switch, but it will always have to stand next to the PS4 / XBO, and it really shows the power difference when games are based on realism instead of art style.

Whats that in the distance its the cease and desist email. Every time i see one these articles I'm like wow that looks sweet to bad its gonna be shut down at least from the public. Like all the others.

CorndogBurglar1948d ago

Yep. Nintendo will shut this down quickly. They always do.

I don't know why people even try anymore unless it's to keep it to themselves.

micdagoat191948d ago

Nintendo should be hiring people like this

milohighclub1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

Innit. Or at least buy the project from them for future use. Would be cheaper than the remaster that will surely arise in the next few year..

frostypants1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

Not a remake. Just a demo of some envitonments. Nice clickbait.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

LG_Fox_Brazil127d ago

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64126d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga126d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic125d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits126d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake126d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex126d ago (Edited 126d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - A Legend 25 Years in the Making

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time debuted 25 years ago, forever changing the face of video games and becoming a legend of its own.

Number1TailzFan158d ago

I used a guide to beat part of it but some of the rest myself, still enjoyed it regardless. Too bad they didn't stick with this kind of gameplay for the rest of the series as I would prefer it over what they're doing now.

TheBrainZ158d ago

A definitive moment in video game history. Played it countless times, and Zelda was the best reason to own an N64.

FinalFantasyFanatic158d ago

I played through OoT so many times on the 64, then I bought it on the 3DS before the Eshop shut down. I wish we could have a Zelda collection like we did for Mario, I still can't believe that never happened.
