Ubisoft was claiming in 2017 that players would be able to play Beyond Good & Evil 2 in offline mode

DSOGaming writes: "A few days ago, we informed you about Beyond Good & Evil 2 requiring a constant online connection in order to be played. However, this online requirements was never part of the plan as last year Ubisoft was claiming that players would be able to play in offline mode."

Ubi should take note of the flop that is Fallout76, because this game is heading in the same direction with its always online BS.

sander97021950d ago

This game will disappoint a lot of people.

DaDrunkenJester1950d ago

Fallout 76 online isn't like what this game is planning. It's like comparing Fallout 76 to Watch Dogs or Ghost Recon Wildlands. They want you online all the time for stream-less co-op and to integrate community stats and such. Fallout 76 always online is more akin to The Division or something where you will find other players randomly roaming.

Regardless, Ubisoft games have been encouraging to always be connected for some time now so I'm not surprised to see Beyond Good and Evil 2 to be always online.

FilthyWeeb1949d ago

I don't want any of that though, and co-op can be achieved without forcing the player always online.
There is also such a thing as offline co-op.

Brave_Losers_Unite1950d ago

Always online bulls**t is what Microsoft wanted to do with their Xbox One. F**k these companies

GaboonViper1950d ago

I just don't understand why they are doing this, BGAE2 must be one of Ubis most requested games, instead of giving us a epic sci~fi SP game they give us this uninspired garbage, SMFH.

LemyAtom1949d ago

Seriously you are right. This isn't even a sequel. It's completely different. Way to go Ubi literally ignoring what the fans want. This game is BS.

Take notes and change directions now

Araragifeels 1951d ago

No, let Ubisoft learn their lesson. Big Publishers won't get it until it hit their pockets. Bethesda, EA, Activision and Ubisoft are the companies who keeps ignoring the fanbase and keep listening to investor.

Imalwaysright1950d ago

I'm with you. Let them spend their budget which is obviously in the millions and hopefully gamers will come together and speak with their wallets.

Potnoodle9991950d ago

Hahaha everyone is in such fierce agreement that this game sucks a**

Ubisoft you have really ballsed this one up. Massively. This is what you get for ruining the long awaited sequel to a truly beloved, quirky and unique game with a loyal fan following.

You reap what you sow🤗

william_cade1950d ago (Edited 1950d ago )

I don't mind an online mode. Some of my favorite games (Bloodborne, D3, Last of Us, RDR2 etc) have an OPTIONAL online mode, but the serious hype I had for this game died, when they announced that BGE2 was going to be always online.

Live service games should be free to play.

rdgneoz31950d ago

When they called it BGE2 a prequel and have an evil jade in the trailer rushing at Pey'j with a katana, that killed my hype more than always online (which is hilariously stupid as well). Overall it seems like they're trying to exploit people's nostalgia for a 15 year old game with an always online, customizable main character, beatem up type game that doesn't look anything like the original in terms of gameplay.

If people want to voice their concerns, do it with your wallets since that's the only thing they'll listen to.

william_cade1950d ago

I get the prequel thing - I was a bit put off, but could possibly overlook it if it was done right even with katanas hahaha, but the 76 style of making a traditionally SP game into an always online MP - well no thanks - that for me was the straw.

Ninver1950d ago (Edited 1950d ago )

Guess they had a change of heart. Well some of us did too. That means no sale.

BlaqMagiq11950d ago

That just means automatic pass from me. No game should ever have a single player component and still require online. With every article things keep getting worse for this game.

Haaliax1950d ago

as I understand, the news are saying that it wont require online always mode

BlaqMagiq11950d ago

We'll have to see with the finished product. Can't trust Ubi's word anymore.

Five Big Games Still Lingering Somewhere in Development Hell

This year promises to be a big year for gaming, and it will definitely be one of the greatest if any of these big MIA projects finally made it into gamers' hands.

Pretty sure Silk Song and Dragon Age are going smoothly. The other 2 can be assumed to be quietly cancelled knowing their publishers and Metroid will most likely be shown off this year.

Michiel1989105d ago

Dragon Age going smoothly??? Directors leaving, people leaving in general, terrible working conditions....not sure how you define smoothly.

VincentVanBro7d ago

lol Dragon Age development has been anything but smooth

Chocoburger106d ago

I remember in 2017 when Nintendo showed off the Metroid Prime 4 logo, and some Nintendo defenders claimed "Just because they only showed a logo, doesn't mean that's all they've worked on for the game."

As history has proven, they were wrong. Nintendo showed off a logo back in 2017 because that's literally all they had.

-Foxtrot106d ago

I think Beyond Good and Evil 2 can stay there unless they are going to just rename it to a new IP

DOMination-105d ago

Pretty sure BG&E2 is dead at this point - along with the other game Ancel was working on before he left - I think it was called WILD. Anyone remember that from a PS conference years ago?

Dreadwolf isn't in development hell anymore and is finally getting its reveal in the summer - since 2016 the game has been scrapped and restarted three times but its been going pretty well since the last reboot when EA finally allowed BioWare to just get on with making a single player game.

I'm not sure Perfect Dark is in development hell either - like it could be but we haven't really heard much to suggest either way - imo they just showed the trailer off when the game was still in pre-production. Xbox were desperate for anything and this is all they had at the time. And the reason we haven't heard anything since is just because it's in normal development and games take 5 years to make. The help from a support studio was typically overblown on N4G because nearly every game has this.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Now the Most Delayed AAA Game Ever

Ubisoft's action-adventure even beats Duke Nukem Forever which previously was the title with the longest wait between a game being first announced and it actually being released.

x_xavier_x574d ago

I understand that the original game is held in high esteem by some passionate fans. I tried to get into it on several occasions and I just lost interest after a few hours of gameplay.

Abracadabra574d ago

Beyond Good & Evil was a great game at the time... but, like most older games, it didn't age well. Gameplay and graphics are subpar by today's standards.

Wouldn't mind if they made a Remake with updated gameplay and graphics. Game turns 20 next year...

x_xavier_x574d ago (Edited 574d ago )

I feel the same way about the original Psychonauts. I gave it a shot every few years, and it just wasn't for me.

MadLad574d ago

I find it still very playable by today's standards, honestly.

But opinions are opinions.
I just feel it actually aged well.

Godmars290574d ago

Its was great middleware that someone thought would make for an even greater AAAA title.

For some reason...

0hMyGandhi574d ago

Beyond Good and Evil aged just fine, as did the original Psychonauts. Visually, sure, a bit rough (though both have a wonderfully refreshing art style that more than makes up for actual "visual fidelity".)

I'd say that you really need to give both of these games another shot. Psychonauts is one of the most original and utterly creative games I've ever played, and it's also one of the funniest as well. Psychonauts 2 was even better, and basically, a (well made) Pixar movie brought to life.

In all honesty, don't just play games and try to like them if you don't actually like them. It's perfectly fine to have your own tastes! we tend to use a tremendous amount of hyperbole when referring to games that are slightly older, and we speak only from memory, which *can* be deceiving.

I will say that I replayed the first Psychonauts again in the last few months, and still adore it. But like I said, this is all subjective.

574d ago
poppatron573d ago

I gave up on the og psychonauts after about 5 or so hours because like many many people those weird sluggish controls just got the better of me while trying to get through some of the more testing platforming and swinging around parts.

BgaE I got way further in enjoyed, I think I saved it off in the end because something I was more interested in came out. The sequel looks like a completely different type of game in genre and scope, to the point it looked pretty ground breaking I thought. I’m still super low key excited for it, although I wouldn’t be surprised if next time it reared it’s head it looked very very different.

EazyC574d ago

It's an age thing. I'm always reminded of this when I whip out the old PS2, the vast majority of 3D games from the '00s just haven't aged well.

Good-Smurf573d ago

I have same feeling over Code Veronica X fans loved it to bits while I'm came out of it confused and disappointed.
I never played Beyond Good & Evil and I might get give it a try soon.

deleted574d ago

Cancel it or change the name for all I care. This isn't the Beyond Good & Evil I fell in love with.

Si-Fly574d ago

Weird take. Whilst we didn’t get proper gameplay reveals it looked very much how I would want BG&E to look now.

-Foxtrot574d ago (Edited 574d ago )

So you wanted an ambitious open world Beyond Good and Evil sequel that gameplay differs from the original and has no clear vision so far if it's a prequel (which no one wanted) or a sequel (with an evil Jade where she's not the main character, which no one wanted)

All people wanted was a full on sequel that's a platformer and continues Jades story.

-Foxtrot574d ago

Exactly

It's not Beyond Good and Evil

They had an idea for an ambitious new IP and thought it would sell better or had more of a safety net if they slapped on a franchise name.

isarai574d ago

Seriously, has absolutely nothing to do with the original other that a loose cameo.

CrimsonWing69574d ago (Edited 574d ago )

How hard is it to make a game like the original? Nobody wanted anything different and these idiots just insist on trying to make something completely unrelated AND they don’t even know what to make! So, yea, here we go with the delays. Ubisoft can be such an obnoxious publisher/developer.

InklingGirl574d ago

Just leave it alone, the original is a classic lets not ruin it.

Exvalos574d ago

I'm more worried about how fast that time went i still remember it being announced there is no way that was that many years ago NO WAY!

Beyond Good And Evil 2 Starts External Playtesting

Although Beyond Good and Evil 2 has had its problems, it has officially been confirmed by Ubisoft that it is still in active development.

Terry_B659d ago

It never looked like a Beyond Good and Evil game even.

TheExecutioner658d ago

Do you know that first game came out 2003 by the time this game released i would be probably 40.
Now majority of gamers who played the first one are not going even bother playing now.

This game is a refreshing and wants to be more appealing to all gamers.

Concertoine658d ago

I just don’t see a reason why it cant be a new IP in that case.

Terry_B658d ago

..and? do you think it looks like a game that appears to all gamers? Unlike the first part it gets mostly negative feedback, even from people that never played the first game.

Michiel1989658d ago

@Terry they also didnt play the 2nd.....

maelstromb658d ago

If the devs were smart, they'd launch a remake of the original a few months before the sequel to get the fans who have loved the original amped again and to also introduce it to a new generation to get them excited for what's to come. Seems like a win-win to me.

isarai658d ago

Looks like an awesome game, but it has nothing too do with BGE1, or anything to do with what fans wanted.

Yi-Long658d ago

If it would have been a SP action-adventure game like the first one, I would have been excited.
