For those of you who werent into gaming in the early nineties, the Golden Axe series might be an entirely alien concept, but for anyone frequenting arcades around 20 years ago or indeed purchasing a Sega Megadrive for the first time, Golden Axe will be a well known name. The original arcade game and its console port has received near universal acclaim, but most of the later games in the series havent enjoyed near as much success, and with the exception of a PS2 port a few years ago, the series seemed to have been laid to rest.
That is until Sega resurrected the series for Beast Rider, a fully original re-imagining of the classic game. Fans of the series will be pleased to hear that the core gameplay is still very similar, and it's clear some effort has been taken to ensure the game has a right to bear the name, despite a gap of nearly a decade since the last proper game was released for the Saturn. There's the obligatory and thoroughly unsurprising move to 3D, but even if you've ever played a Golden Axe game before, you'll see some instant similarities. If not, you'll probably be able to liken Beast Rider to any recent action game like Devil May Cry or God of War, as it borrows heavily from both."

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.
Okay, Sega. the devs of Streets of Rage 4 together and let's make a new Golden Axe happen.
These remakes and remasters are must-haves in this next generation.
Gunstar Heroes was made by Treasure. I'm not sure if that IP actually belongs to Sega. If it does, the ONLY modern day developer that I think would do that game justice is Housemarque. Maybe Sega could collaborate with Sony to let them make a modern day Gunstar Heroes. I definitely think Shinobi and Afterburner need modern day remakes though.
I feel like there are stronger Sega IP's than some of the ones that were listed such as...
Vector Man
Comix Zone
Virtual On
Ranger X
Jet Set Radio
Landstalker
Eternal Champions
As hard as it was, the Shinobi remake that came out on PS2 was decent. But yes, a new remake would be great. Always loved that series.
