Release now, patch later. Why bother buying games day 1 anymore? You're not going to get the best experience until well after it is released.

Cobra9512005d ago

And if you think about it, why bother buying games on disc anymore. 48 GB? Isn't that at least close to the size of the whole thing, a downstream gulp all disc buyers must swallow anyway?

philm872005d ago

Buy it on disc so you can sell it again.

manabyte772005d ago

To retain ownership. Until ownership laws catch up in the digital age, I’ll be sticking with physical when at all possible.

JokerBoy4222005d ago

Youre telling me you'd rather be stuck with this shit game than be able to sell it?

KyRo2005d ago

Physical is ALOT cheaper, you own it, you can sell it on, share it with friends... Soon there will be a day when it becomes digital only. You will have to pay whatever price prices Sony, ninetndo and xbox put on their stores, no competitors in pricing, games can be taken away from you in a click of a button, your account gets hacked and all your games are digital? Tough. Want to lend your game to friends or family? Nope.

Believe me digital is not better when it comes to gaming. Getting of the sofa to change a disk really isn't all that much effort to what we would get in a all digital future.

ziggurcat2005d ago

@manabyte:

"To retain ownership. Until ownership laws catch up in the digital age, I’ll be sticking with physical when at all possible."

you have the same ownership rights on a digital license as you do a physical license. being able to trade/sell the disc does not mean you own the game more than you do if it's digital.

The patch is 15 gig on PC, not too bad.

Just wanted to say something about the game. Almost all online community based games have problems at launch that need patching, just the way it is. Maybe they should have made this an early access game. They are rolling out patches pretty quickly though.

Also the game isn't terrible, it's pretty good, even playing solo. At first the lack of NPC's is off putting but their is plenty of story if your willing to read and listen to holotapes. The only thing is the map is so large that you don't see other players much when playing solo, small issue to me. I think 76 looks much better than Fallout 4 except they need to improve the water effects. The lighting in the game looks pretty amazing.

I'm enjoying the game.

rainslacker2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

I buy them in disc because most games do have a game on the disc, and most of the ones I play don't have huge patches I need to download before I can play them.

Even most mp games don't have updates this big.

This is just Bethesda being stupid and not really doing things the best possible way, thinking that because it's fallout people will just gobble it up. But I have a feeling that this game will be used as an example of why mp games aren't a guaranteed success

On top of that, given what a lot of people seem to think about this game, you could probably still resell it for 30-50. Heck, game stop will probably still give you 30 bucks trade in credit for it.

Tzuno2005d ago

The gaming industry is retarded, the gamer should have the option to select between 4k textures and other languages to cut down install size just like in PC repacks.

So nearing 150gb game now?

50gb game
50gb day 1 patch
48gb additional patch

This is insane.

Born2Game832005d ago

No it doesn't work that way. It replaces a lot of files in the game. So it shouldn't be much bigger than the base game. Not that it shouldn't have been released in such a broken state to begin with.

BenRoxio2005d ago

Even after all that it won't be any good, game should have been delayed

badz1492004d ago

@Born2game83

Doesn't change the fact that those who bought it digital would have to download 150GB of data for the game already and even physical copy buyers are already needed to download 100GB of data just to play the game and ALL in the week of release. It's not even optional because this is a MP only game and you can't play unless you've already install the latest patch but in this case a stupidly huge 50GB patch which should not be allowed by Sony or MS IMO! This is madness and paints an ugly future for digital only distribution that many here are blindly embracing eventhough it's dumb and clear that publishers are already abusing it like Bethesda here and Activision!

Seriously, if this is the future of gaming that you guys are so looking forward to, I don't want to be a part of it. I have a 500Mbps connection myself but doesn't mean I would tolerate publishers and devs trying to abuse users with shitty practice like this.

And sadly, people are still continuing this tend of buying any game day one without thinking of the consequences.

This is why I always read the reviews first. They may not be reliable all the time (ex. IGN, PSBrahs, GP, etc.) but they do give some good insights.

cooperdnizzle2004d ago (Edited 2004d ago )

Ehhh most reviews are still crap and company’s are being paid off.

DrumBeat2004d ago

I can't think of a bigger disaster in recent gaming history. Bethesda just doesn't care about the quality. The quick buck, sure. The quality? Who needs quality, right? Throw in a grindy system (that's not even amusing) some microtransactions, a bunch of reused assets, and terrible new ones on an old buggy engine.

Cost efficient, anti-consumer mess.

FinalFantasyFanatic2004d ago

I see this as a continuation of the negative symptoms in the industry and the ensuring backlash was rightfully recieved (this kind of thing should happen more often).

SheenuTheLegend2004d ago

this is what scares me about games nowadays. had a profession in gaming, but these things just hurts as a gamer.

Wow... Haha what a mess of a release :-D. What's going on here, crazy times.

Eonjay2005d ago

I think we can see that the whole prospect of Crossplay was never in the cards ever. How can Todd make this about Sony holding him back?

WANNAGETHIGH2005d ago (Edited 2005d ago )

Lol, just throw the whole game away already. This sucks. Because my brother is a huge he fallout fan.. ** Goes back to playing Cod**

aaronaton2005d ago

48GB's worth of turd polish.

salmonade2005d ago

I heard they had to replace the bugs with an all new set of bugs so they could battle and destroy the original bugs that have spawned more hybrid bugs that no one has the ability to contain. That's what originally happened to all the NPC's... they were eaten by the hybrid super bugs. Bugthesda was so embarrassed they just told everyone that the game had no NPC's to begin with, but it was just another Todd Howard cover up. The truth is much much more horrific.... the NPC's were eaten alive and annihilated.

URtheWalrus2005d ago

I am definitely in the minority as I am liking this game, but your comment was pure comedy gold!

stormhawk2005d ago

It's getting trashed but my friends said exploring the world is a lot of fun

rainslacker2005d ago

So they are using nanobugs to combat the existing bugs?

fishaz7802004d ago

What’s funny is the patch hasn’t done much. I looked back in after the updates and now mutants, Molemen and molerats are all spawning in the same area, fighting to the death and then respawning. They are also over level 50 and I’m not even that far up the map 😢
