‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Isn't Boring, You Are

There’s nothing—not Superman’s mug, Kanye’s backtracks, or mayonnaise on toast—more boring and tired, than a person calling a popular thing “boring.”

I find these articles about how gamers just don't get this game, how the game is imaculate because its so beautiful and interactive, and how anyone with a different opinion is just wrong to be tedious, dull, monotonous, repetitive, unimaginative, uninspiring, banal, and trying.

The author of this article, for making such a dull-witted headline is uninteresting. His premise is bland, his delivery is insipid, his arguments unvaried, his article vapid, and his need to convince others irksome.

Yes, but its very detailed. And it doesn't force you to slow down to appreciate its value. Its designed for quickness, that gets you to the heart of the content in no time.:)

I reached chapter 3 and I was still not enjoying myself and almost gave up. My character felt weak and still had no upgrades and no money despite all the hunting and looting. I went to youtube for some tips and realized there are many tutorials and stuff that I missed. I also checked on Reddit some control tweaks that actually make the gameplay better. Then after finally getting used to the feel of the game I started a new playthrough...

I happily take what I said back. I am finally enjoying the game. I think my problem was that I was focused on doing mission and progressing thru the story without taking my time in this world, which the game truly wants you to. Holding Square to loot drawers and stuff so a Arthur picks all the valuable stuff quickly also fixes my complaint with looting in this game. I finally know how to get good and perfect pelts for upgrades, and I finally understand the Cores thing. You just have to keep yourself physically active to upgrade your stats. I like this feature and definitely a much needed break from stupid Skill Trees

Awesome game and bold design choices R*
👍🏻

bluefox7552018d ago

I hope this is what happens to me. I wouldn't say I'm not enjoying myself, but I'm not getting sucked in like I have other great games this year. I definitely see the potential there for it to happen though, so fingers crossed.

boing12018d ago

Yes, this one definitely grows on you with time. Just don't rush it.

Toolster2018d ago (Edited 2018d ago )

For me I wasn’t enjoying it as it felt like work and not fun. That said I can fully appreciate how beautiful the game looks.

I tried several times to get into it, restarted it once but I didn’t have the WANT to play it so I sold it on for £45. In the long run it only cost me a fiver to try the game for a week.

The problem is that the game pushes back way too much the fact that you need a tutorial or strategy guide to make the experience better points to this, Rockstar did a terrible job of explaining how the systems in the game affect the world. Other games have been just as obtuse but where much better at explaining how certain things work. Bloodborne is a good example of a game that suffers from the same thing I almost gave up on that game obviously the feel of both games and themes are different but boy you miss out on a lot because you had no clue as to how or why you should do certain things.

Nodoze2017d ago

I don't have or need either. I am letting the game and the story guide me. I enjoy the surprises that I am greeted with each time I play. It is a spectacular game.

I do admit that the controls could absolutely use a bit of tweaking, but other than that....utterly fantastic game.

Realms2017d ago

Nah they just implemented certain aspects of the game in a bad way into the storyline without ever explaining how the game systems work, for example if you wish to upgrade your satchels early on you can't so don't bother hunting because it's tied to the main quest so you would be wasting your time until you played said mission. IMO other games have implemented better upgrade and progression systems in a better way or at least made it clear what you could or couldn't do before needing to progress in the main storyline.

wwinterj2017d ago

A lot of folk want to rush through games these days only to complain when they can't do that or when they can complain how boring the game is. Some folk even go as far to say that side content is grinding. Side content is in the game for a reason and this game is full of things to do if you have the imagination to do so. I'm happy you've seen the error of your ways.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it can't be boring.

BadElf2018d ago

True. Ninja. And fortnite.

sampsonon2018d ago

sometimes people and the media build a game up so much that even if it's not that great, not saying RDR2 isn't, they need to act as if t's great to save face.

RDR2 is. YAWN!. ok, but slow as hell.

starchild2018d ago

No, the truth is, games are neither boring nor not boring in any objective sense. A minority of contrarians saying something is boring doesn't make it objectively true any more than a large group of people saying the opposite.

If someone plays a game and has fun with it then it is fun...for that person...and any one else that feels the same way. The opposite, of course, is true too.

People need to quit trying to shove their subjective preferences down other people's throats. The gaming community would be a whole lot less toxic without that crap.

rainslacker2018d ago

I've seen a lot of articles trying to explain why the game isn't boring, or how people just don't get it.

To me, if someone feels bored, then explaining why one feels it isn't, isn't going to change someone else mind on if they feel it's boring. And this game isn't like the movie Inception, where you have to get it to really get what's going on, thus giving you the potential to enjoy it. It's a game, and if someone doesn't get it, it doesn't make them wrong, it makes them not care what there is to get, because that kind of thing isn't important to them. Either that, or the things that bring it down for them, aren't made up by what the developer is trying to do. Like slowing down the game to get people to appreciate the world they made. I think if you have to force people to slow down, it doesn't speak well to one's confidence on if they thought people that want to do that kind of thing will do it on their own.

LongLiveKing2018d ago

This is true. I believe that there's so much to do in Red Dead that some players can't handle it

supes_242017d ago

@LongLiveKing
Your comment can't be further from the truth. Can't handle the vast amount to do in the game? That's ridiculous. I like the content, I hate the slow ass "everything" in the game. Granted, I've only been able to put about 2 hours in to it because it has yet to capture me, that's how slot it is for me.

Realms2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

So what you are saying is you shouldn't complain or have an opinion? I like RDR2 I have played most of the major AAA RPG's this generation and RDR2 is slow period. The story is slow pacing, your characters movement is slow, the upgrading system is slow. The game design is just slow I can see how it can be off putting to some people, the fact that you have to use a strategy guide or video tutorial to make the game experience better is very telling, I hate doing that because it takes away from me organically discovering cool things but RDR2 made me want to go and see a video of how to get perfect pelts, I played Horizon Zero Dawn with a similar upgrade system that was better implemented the hunting in RDR2 just sucks and it's a major way to get upgrades. IMO it's not the amount of things you can do it's that the physics in the game make those tasks feel like chores sometimes.

I've fallen asleep every time I played it, LOL!! I wake up and I'm just walking or galloping somewhere. It's like hypnotism to me. I look at this as more if a sim than a "game" so to speak.

Akarogg 2017d ago

If you fall asleep that easily I think you might have a medical condition. Better get yourself checked

bangoskank2017d ago (Edited 2017d ago )

I really appreciate what Rockstar has made but you need to have no job, significant other, or real life responsibilities to get the most out of this game.

6 Games That Genuinely Deserve A Current-Gen Upgrade

Games such as Mad Max, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Batman: Arkham Knight desperately deserve a modern-day revisit.

thorstein26d ago

Mad Max is underrated. Such a fun game.

Cacabunga25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

RDR2 still looks astounding on PS4 Pro. i cannot imagine how it could look with a next gen upgrade.

JonTheGod25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Probably not very different.

No idea why this article is highlighting recent beautiful graphically-advanced games and saying they need current gen makeovers. They already look better than most new releases; just compare Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad!

exputers25d ago

I see what you did there.

Yi-Long25d ago

It's obviously never gonna happen since Sony killed the game and studio, but Driveclub. Even in its current state, 10 years after release, it still puts many competitors to shame ...

Demetrius25d ago

I'm not into racing games but yeah I even looked at gameplay of that sometimes

Demetrius25d ago

Mad max ikr! Far cry primal, it amuses me how ubisoft just left ac unity hanging, sadly most of the good staff left from rocksteady while being forced to make that abomination smh

hmm kinda out there i find red dead 2 a over hyped game i am sure there are other's out there worthy of this award.

Are we saying rdr 2 mp is better than the first one?

The cover shooting better on #2 than #1?

I mean they reused 80% of rdr 1 map on rdr 2

smolinsk44d ago

Red Dead Redemption 1 was better. A better story that's for sure but the world in red Dead Redemption 2 is fantastic. But overall yes Red Dead Redemption 2 is overhyped but with best living World ever made.

just_looken44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Oh rdr 2 world how you leave tracks what you can do and the npc's are great no doubt

For me its the forced guns one way to play missions and the camp you can do nothing be a ass and there is no change sense none of the hunting/donating.bounty/karma etc even taking care of your horse matters. Then you got the horse inventory along with them bringing in realistic inventory but at the same time have that slomo crap pick a lane is it a wild west sim or a max payne rip off.

shinoff218343d ago (Edited 43d ago )

Plus who cares about the mp. Single player is where it's at.

I don't think it's the best sequel either. I liked it but I can see why some say it's overhyped. That's because it was. Great game still. I'd take xcom 2 as a better sequel. I'm sure there's plenty others.

just_looken43d ago

We care about mp because of gta v even if you been living under a rock you know what gtao did to gta v dlc.

Though rdr 2 mp failed it still put time/resources and budget away from the single player for a subpar experience compared to the first.

lucasnooker44d ago

Hmmm don’t know about that one myself. There’s some good sequels there….

No way last of us 2 was a better sequel than the original resident evil 2. The story of TLOU2 was a huge let down for me!

Assassins creed 2 was a vast improvement over the original and still the very best of the entire franchise imo.

Half-life 2 will always be legendary.

RDR2 is great but the best sequel ever? I don’t think so… just my opinion though I guess

shinoff218343d ago

Shoot down last of us 2 but bring up assassins creed 2. What in the world.

anast44d ago

Last of Us 2 would be mine and Dark Souls 3 has to be up there.

raWfodog44d ago

I also enjoyed TLOU2 but RDR2 edges it out for me. Both hit me in the feels but RDR2 just a little bit more lol.

anast43d ago

RDR2 is an excellent game. One of my top 10 of all time.

SimpleSlave44d ago

Sure, if you started playing game yesterday and just for this series. Otherwise? lol... No.
