The Switch has sold 22.86m units, Nintendo revealed in its latest financial update. The GameCube ended up on 21.74m units sold. It's another milestone for the Switch, which Nintendo said "continued to be quite popular" during the six months ending 30th September 2018. During that period, 5.07m Switch consoles were sold, a 3.7 per cent increase year-on-year.
“At the end of the day, if you're not playing Endless Ocean Luminous to look at and learn about oceanic creatures then you won't enjoy it as there is little else to it. While not necessarily a bad game, it becomes less and less fun the more you play it and I wouldn't exactly call that the hallmark of a good game either.” - Martijn van Gent from Video Chums.
Biomutant comes to the Nintendo Switch. A decent port, but nothing groundbreaking.
"The Vilnius-based (Lithuania) indie games publisher Nordcurrent Labs and Bayreuth-based (Germany) indie games developer Emergo Entertainment, are today veyy happy and proud to announce that their cozy hiking adventure "Fireside", is coming to PC (via Steam) and the Nintendo Switch (via the Nintendo Eshop) on June 4th, 2024." - Jonas Ek, TGG.
It will be interesting to see if they hit their 20 million forecast this year.
On one hand, sales so far have been kind of slow and they still have just under 15 million to go for October through March.
On the other hand, last quarter saw a 9% YOY increase despite the quarter seeing a weaker software lineup than last year. Q3 this year contains two of Nintendo's biggest franchises and blows last year's Q3 out of the water. Plus there's 2D Mario in Q4 that should help maintain momentum. (Yes, it's a rerelease, but 2D Mario is one of Nintendo's top 3 franchises and so far pretty much all Wii U rereleases have outdone their original releases).
It's gonna take a 50% YOY increase for the second half of the fiscal year to hit that target. They say they're shipping more than enough to hit it. It'll be interesting to see where it ends up.
Nintendo financial results: six months ended September 30, 2018 - Switch at 22.86 million shipped
On an side note, why can't they make joy-cons like the mock-up in the thumbnail? Any joy-con that doesn't cripple my hands to hold for more than 5 minutes would be brilliant
well the Cube sold less than the N64 so... good job?
