Trails of Cold Steel is criminally underrated and overlooked. Still waiting for 3 and 4 in the West, played 1 and 2 and they're amazing

It will take me years to get through the series but I plan on doing it.

Once I finish Dragon Quest XI I'll take a bit of a break from rpgs for a month and then I have the LoH: Gagharv trilogy to finish. Already played and love A Tear of Vermillion.

Then once I beat those other two, I can start on Trails in the Sky & SC & 3rd. Then I can start on Cold Steel.

I honestly won't get to the Cold Steel series for probably 2-3 years. I take my time with and in between rpgs otherwise I get burnt out on the gameplay style.

I'm hoping 3&4 head west eventually as well.

I remember playing Legend of Heroes way back in the TG-16 days. Called Dragon Slayer here in the US, that is the only game that we saw in the west until last gen. There were quite a few other games that I played that were Japanese releases, and had no clue about what was going on, but the games were always good.

The series goes way back, similar to Ys, and they both kind of grew together in Japan, and I think if it had had more time earlier in its lifetime, the IP could have grown to be something big. Falcom though didn't focus a lot on localizing those games for some reason....probably because their more traditional style JRPG's didn't sell as well as some of the competitors did.

I still can't beat 2 coz i made the mistake of playing om hard.

I beat the first on hard after 160 hours. I can't commit that time for the second one. I'm devastated!

Never got a chance to try these out but wanted to. Anyway to play the old ones on ps4? Or would I be ok playing this last one by itself?

BlaqMagiq12061d ago

They are available on PS4 only in Japan right now. We have no timetable on when they'll be localized.

BlaqMagiq12059d ago

I know this comment is 2 days old, but you're in luck.

Yea I actually saw that after posting this lol. Definitely excited to finally play these.

Falcom has rebooted, spun off,re imagined the Dragon Slayer series so much, you would never know Trails comes from Dragon Slayer, one of the if not the first JRPG and it was an action game.

rainslacker2061d ago

There not so much spin offs as they are existing in the same world kind of deals.

Legend of Heroes is actually spun off of the Dragon Slayer series, which I think started at DS6. If I understand it all correctly, since it can get rather confusing, all of the more recent LOH games all take place within that DS6 era, which for the original games I believe only consisted of there being LOH1&2:DS before they dropped the Dragon Slayer name.

Yet still less convoluted than Kingdom Hearts.

You definitely are right seeing I'm pretty sure Estelle from the Sky games seems to be a party member in Cold Steel 4. Which I'm happy about. She's a great character

Great series I'd encourage people to try out, but I'm not sure you should start with 3.

shinoff218334d ago

I've finally got the whole series on ps4/ps5 besides the sky triology. I'm going to play the sky games on steam and move onto the Playstation ones. I've been dying to get into it.

raWfodog33d ago

Yeah he mentioned that in the article.

Knightofelemia33d ago

I was going to but 3 and 4 on PS4 but when I read they both were hitting PS5 I just waited. My problem is I have a shit load of games I have to work on.

Barlos33d ago

But I don't want to. Please don't make me

gold_drake33d ago

my issue is that they are still very expensive games and those games are a commitment ha.

I own these games for PS4 but getting this version for PS5 anyway because I love the series. I preordered it at least 6 months ago so I wouldn’t forget. Hopefully they port the first 2 games together next.

NIS Europe has a pretty neat box: https://store.nisaeurope.co...

I already own them on PS4 as well, otherwise I'd get the PS5 version for sure.

shinoff218392d ago

I really hope they can figure out a way to get part 1 and 2 to ps5.
