Xbox Games With Gold Continues To Underwhelm

It's not a bad collection of Xbox Games With Gold for October, but it's a little on the low-key side.

Last year, GWG had the better selection of games vs PS+ for the most part, but two things happened. 1) PS+ price increase which in turn led to much better free games. 2) Game Pass. It doesn't make sense for Microsoft to put up top notch games for free at the same time they are trying to sell a subscription service. Microsoft should just kill GWG and focus on getting more great games on Game Pass, imo.

I think people easily forget just how good PS+ was for much of 2017. To say GwG was obviously better is perhaps inaccurate. Almost every month from February 2017 to Dec 2017 was excellent.

June - Killing Floor 2 (PS4) - Life is Strange (PS4) - WRC5 (PS3)

August - Just Cause 3 (PS4) - Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry (PS4) - Downwell (PS4 & Vita)

September - Infamous Second Son (PS4) - Rigs (PSVR)

October - MGSV Phantom Pain (PS4) - Amnesia Collection (PS4) - Sky Force Anniversary (PS4/3/V) - Hue (PS4/V)

December - Darksiders 2 (PS4) - Until Dawn RoB (PSVR)

That's 8 very good months last year including 5 great months. May gave us ABZU and Tales from the Borderlands, which are both terrific games, but i didn't include it. So even the other 4 months weren't necessarily bad either, but i was just highlighting the "best" months according to most. All 8 months have a big game and some had huge games.

Well that's the nature of the service and the risk you accept. I don't always see the value because they end up giving games I already own (typically big name titles).

This is a weak month on GwG, especially if PS+ gets Diablo 3 and Nioh. Ever since Game Pass launched it appears that the quality of GwG has suffered. GwG had a single excellent month since the induction of Game Pass, but the rest have been very underwhelming.

People will blame Game Pass for the decrease in quality for GwG, and they might be right. However, Sony supports their own game service via PSNow yet PS Plus has only gotten better. Granted, some may attribute the excellent quality of PS Plus to the price increase, but the increase has simply put the price on par with XBLive after years of PS Plus costing less.

Friday 13th and Laser League not D3 and Nioh.

PS+ leaks were bs, everyone thought it was D3 and Nioh. Friday the 13th, Laser League, and Rocketbirds 2 is disappointing. Still better than Overcooked and V Vran. My point still stands, GwG has been horrible since Game Pass, with the exception of one month. PS+ has been fire for over a year. Weak month here, but it's been far better than GwG for a while. So what, the leaks were wrong, everyone expected bangers. My point still stands.

I'm actually really interested for the 360 games instead this time. Never played Hitman Blood Money yet, and only played Stuntman Ignition on the PS2 with the old engine.

Gold is regularly £30 which equates to £2.50 a month.

For full online gaming and 4 free games, 2 of which you keep regardless of whether you continue to subscribe (the 360 titles)

If anyone thinks that £2.50 is poor value for;

Stuntman Ignition
Hitman Blood Money
Victor Vran
Overcooked
1 Month of online gaming

....then I think it’s time to stop gaming!

If I had the decision to spend 2.50 on those games I wiuldnt. If it’s wasnt for MS I wouldn’t be paying for online either.

Well that's the beauty of consumer choice. You don't want to pay for it, you don't have to.

Personally I think just Stuntman or Hitman alone is worth the £2.50, never mind for the lot.

And I'm assuming you mean that Sony only charge for PSN because MS 'started it'. Well if you think Sony was going to keep PSN free for ever I think you are very much mistaken!
