dude. its a dud. and overpriced. you don't even get a power cord. and youre entirely dependent on Sony to decide what handful of games they'll give it before they kill it just like the pstv thing or whatever i don't even remember now. they should have just had the architecture to be backwards compatible or enable an emulator on the ps4 pro.

Apparently Forbes assumes that people are so stupid that they're actually looking to this system as some sort of BC solution. If they do, then sure, they'd probably be extremely disappointed.

Luckily most gamers aren't actually idiots, and recognize what this system is, so their actual disappointment will come from this likely being a nostalgic purchase, which will end up being a dust collector like so many of these types of things are.

But its a cool colletible, and if people want it, go for it, but some people in the media really really really really want to find a reason to cast shade on Sony for any and everything, and its becoming more and more idiotic every single day. I thought Spider-Man hate was stupid enough, but this whole, "This mini console is BC" thing is even stupider.

Incorrect. 2d sprites as an artform have aged much more gracefully than the primitive 3d visuals of ps1/n64/saturn. That isn't to say I don't love some ps1 games, mere fact. We'll have to see the rest of the collection on offer before we determine whether sony failed to get a couple liscenses or drop the ball completely but ff7, sotn and mgs would be enough for me.. though mgs looks a little less likely for reasons.

I think the hate towards Sony in general is just becoming increasingly ridiculous and stupid. Its gone well beyond the realm of potentially justifiable criticism to completely stupid logic to try and make them look bad....or worse, try and drive a few hits to the website. I can understand it from fan boys on forums, but the media as of late has been kicking it into overdrive to try and make everything much worse than it really is, or just make up complete BS to try and do the same thing to piggyback on something that may be popular at the moment.

I'm sure everyone here knows about the story of the boy who cried wolf, so I wonder if people realize that the more this goes on, the less and less respect these sites will get from their readers because it just seems all so contrived.

Think of it this way. When I criticize MS, I know a lot of MS fans may not take me seriously because how I'm often critical of them. We as Sony fans don't take a lot of the Xbox fans seriously for the same reason. The same thing will, or kind of already has, happen in the media itself. Case in point, not many takes Kotaku, Polygon, Gamingbolt, or Forbes seriously anymore.

I fail to see what makes the PS1 Classic lack lasting appeal vs. the exact same thing but for a different retro console. Fans of the PS1 are sure to find the same enjoyment with it as fans of the NES and SNES have found enjoyment in those classic consoles.

That would make it more expensive. The reason these mini consoles have popped up is that they can make them dirt cheap and sell them with a good profit margin. They know that plenty of people will buy them as Christmas gifts, but there really isn't a lasting market for them.

I think if someone really wants that, just getting a PSTV would suffice. It's more versatile, and can support dual shock controllers, and would be half the price, with games. Wouldn't look as cool, but you'd also get access to most of the Vita games, which IMO makes up for the aesthetics.

Honestly, I think Sony should have made the PS Mini a special version of the PSVita, and maybe driven some Vita software sales in the process. Considering they could sell the thing so cheap, it would actually probably be a step up from the PS Mini as it is, but a great deal if it included the 20 games. Lost opportunity on Sony's part IMO. Even if they don't care about the Vita anymore, there is still money to be made on the software itself. Not to mention it could even drive some adoption of PS+ if they didn't remove the games from the service.

I know someone that has a mini genesis system for their kids bedroom. They play, or at least played it fairly often, although I think they've moved onto other consoles in the past couple years. It has more games pre-installed on it though.

I'd say systems like this have a place beyond the collectors market, but its not the kinds of situations that most hardcore gamers fall into. Also, a lot of them will be brought, played for a while when they are first opened, then probably collect dust for years before they end up in a yard sale....and most of those will be from people receiving them as gifts.

PS1 games are intolerable now but PS2 games however are still surprisingly good. I find this mini console useless especially if some of the best games are on the store to purchase on PS3 except SILENT HILL 2! fkin Konami lost the source code.

Eh, they saved me that disappointment long ago when they made it so you couldn't get on without turning off your ad blocker. They've only gotten worse since then, and they seem to be one of the worst sites when it comes to trolling Sony. At least places like Polygon or Kotaku, and sometimes even Gamingbolt try to sometimes appear impartial, with the former two actually doing alright nowadays when they're not virtue signaling.
