This is just silly, it's been dumb since it was Watchdogs which was actually downgraded.

They tried this with Uncharted then they tried it again with Horizon:Zero Dawn then they tried it with God of War and guess what, all those games are on the list of best selling games this generation as Spider-Man will be.

Downgrade doesn't mean that the game is bad or that will sell worst. What does mean is that looks worst than when it was show for first time and it does.

Watch Dogs 1 was absolutely downgraded, most of the Horizon/God of War was a change in the lighting though. What people don't understand is when you're seeing an E3 build of something nothing there is final or should be taken as final. Hell, if you're seeing something early enough odds are it isn't even running on retail hardware likely a dev kit or even just a PC.

I'm no game developer but it seems to me like downgrades can happen for both legitimate reasons and non-legitimate reasons.

1. When devs start work on a game they have no way of knowing how the finished product will run. So it does make sense to make it look as good as possible, graphically, then downgrade if necessary as you add more features.

2. On the other hand, I'm sure there are devs that make a game look graphically amazing, knowing full well it will never look like that in the end, just so they can grab people's attention early.

It's not just the puddle though. I am more concerned with the relatively flat shading, lack of atmospheric effects, and spidey's suit appears to have lower-resolution texture, and little interaction with light/shadow. That's far more obnoxious to me than the puddle.

It will still be an amazing game, and I think it's because Insomniac is so well known for crafting absolutely gorgeous games, and they are also known for incredible attention to detail, so seeing a reduction in that detail is somewhat dissapointing.

Is it the end of the world? of course not. If they can retain even half of what was shown in the e3 videos, I will be more than happy.

But let's not conflate whiny "puddlegate" people and an obvious reduction in visual fidelity.

I feel ya,overall it doesn't seem quite as sharp as the original E3 trailer but we gotta keep in mind it is being developed for PS4.they have extremely limited power than the PCs it was created on..in all honesty I never expect a game to look quite as good at launch as it did in an E3 announcement trailer unless its running on a PC.at the end of the day this is the Marvel game we have all been waiting for.finally we are about to get a Spiderman game that is being developed by one of the best developers in the industry.regardless if it looks quite as good as the trailer or not it is still gonna be an amazing looking game like all Sony's other big exclusives..in the trailer you could damn near see every thread in his suit,the PS4 Pro isn't capable of all that,muchless the base PS4/PS4 slim

really? so explain the above image in the comparison. How come there is so much texture shown in the shadow? where are the highlights? where are the cast shadows? unless you are talking absolutes, and especially when clothing is involved in the conversation, light interacts with fabric in a VERY specific way. Spidey has a hyper-realistic look in the above shot, and the below show, while perhaps better in motion is a strange reduction.

How do I know this? Because I AM an artist. I WENT to school FOR art.
Also, my above comment mentioned that it doesn't REALLY matter what the game looks like, I own every single Insomniac Game (with the exception of FUSE) and I adore their work.

It will most likely look DAMN good. But the conversation was never about puddles.

When light is coming from a completely different direction shadows can disappear, reflections are muted, and anything related to light is effected, If it wasn't affected you would be a terrible artist. Why would his suit reflect so much if light wasn't being cast directly on it? Why would details show up in shadow? Have you ever thought that maybe his suit is wet in the top pic and in the bottom pic it is dry? It was always about nitpicking light changes, anyone saying otherwise is being disingenuous. A certain camp screams downgrade every time a ps4 exclusive is about to release only to disappear when the game releases and they are proven wrong and have to eat a murder of crows.

There is nothing to suggest the technical workings of the art was downgraded. Upgrades abound if you look at any comparison but this single one.

Just wait until release I'm sure many of us will be showing you that you are in error.
