Top Five Dead Fighting Games That Need a Rematch

Over time, many gaming franchises have come and gone, sometimes without notice. One of most competitive genres for developers to break into is that of fighters, as many staples have been ongoing for more than a decade, crowding out younger IPs. Here are some of the dead fighting franchises that deserve a reboot.

I'd love to see Bloody Roar return, provided attention is paid to mechanics and balance.

The Capcom Series Most in Need of Revival

Capcom recently revealed interest in reviving their dormant IPs, so it's time to look at which Capcom series would make sense to return.

Knightofelemia699d ago

Breath of Fire, Knights of the Round, Saturday Night Slam Masters, a proper Bionic Commando game, Ghosts and Goblins. I am all down for Dino Crisis loved 1 and 2 one thing I like about Capcom is their massive library of games that need to be brought back to life. Next to Konami, Namco, Sega, old Squaresoft, Capcom was and is another one of my favorite developers. I would like it if Disney would just let Capcom make a Marvel game or two or Disney should let Capcom handle some Disney games. Capcom pulled of some great games with both Disney characters and Marvel characters.

All those plus Rival Schools, Powerstone, Darkstalkers, Dungeons and Dragons and Aliens vs Predator.

Terry_B699d ago

Rival Schools, Darkstalkers, Captain Commando, Dino Crisis and Breath of Fire.

CrimsonWing69698d ago

I feel like Darkstalkers will get SJWd, but I still want it

RyanShutup698d ago

The Japanese seem to be immune to that bullshit... so far at least anyway.

shinoff2183698d ago

Breath of fire would be number one choice.

Glad to see it getting some love in the comments. I loved these games 1 through 4.
Not dragon quarter

Godmars290698d ago

Dark Stalkers, any fighting game - or side scroller - really, just not with SF's current art direction.

The 12 Most Underrated Sega Dreamcast Games

The Sega Dreamcast was a system that had some really cool and innovative games. However, the console never had as much widespread appeal as the PS2 or Xbox.

I would play a seaman remake today. No doubt.

Longie_long793d ago

We encourage all gamers to enjoy playing with their seaman.

phoenixwing793d ago

I think outtrigger is really underrated as a game for the dreamcast. It was quite good for the time.

Shuckylad793d ago

If I could take two consoles with me into the after life it would be the Snes and dreamcast.

Jiub793d ago

I can get behind SNES, but Dreamcast? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I need an explanation

ApocalypseShadow793d ago (Edited 793d ago )

Dreamcast was like an arcade console in the home. As Sega produced many games and brought them over. Third parties released their arcade fighters on the console and they were arcade perfect or better like Soul Calibur. Back when games were about instant fun because they had to be to draw you in.

Every console we play today is more about length of a game and added side missions or fluff to lengthen the game than arcade as many of the games aren't arcade like. There are arcade like games there. Especially fighters. But these consoles don't have the same feel as an arcade company that made an arcade like machine. Dreamcast was the end of an era as most gamers play at home, most console games don't release in the arcade and multiplayer is through an online connection that kills that in person social gathering.

Gamers like myself that grew up on arcades, can tell the difference from popping tokens and nickels and quarters at arcades and just pressing start with a controller. Dreamcast had that feeling. It had a short life but it sure left an impression. Which is why I have two units to make sure. Because it's soul never dies(Soul Calibur)

ApocalypseShadow793d ago (Edited 793d ago )

I'm not sure if my explanation below fits why you like Dreamcast. But that's how I felt about it. Even today, there are no light gun games anymore. And today's TVs don't even support them. I have to keep a CRT TV just to keep light gun gaming alive.

And online is okay. But it's like playing poker in person compared to over the internet with a no name and no face opponent. The game is the same but you don't get the poker face looks, the body movement, the physical cards or chips. Dreamcast had that arcade feel and local, multiplayer fun.

CR7JUVE1897793d ago

Dreamcast is far and away my favorite console of all time.

Bathory666793d ago

If you like survival horror, i highly recommend D2. It’s really cool. Reminiscent of deadly premonition. Great atmosphere and music. Super campy and cheesy but unique. Just emulate it.

Capcom Fighting Collection Is an Essential Release, and Here's Why

There's more to this package than just a Darkstalkers party. Though that's reason to celebrate enough.

ApocalypseShadow797d ago (Edited 797d ago )

It's because they are all good fighting games separately. Does look like a great package of games and features if you don't have these games already or have emulated them.

Speaking of collections, can I get the arcade Bionic Commando, the NES version, a remake of the Gameboy version, Elite Forces and Bionic Commando Rearmed 1 and 2 thanks. The 3D one only if Capcom rebuilds it themselves to look and be more like rearmed.

So many collections can be made.Which could lead to more collections like other fighting and game collections. Like Power Stone, Mega Man collection or even a Mega Man Legends remake to Ratchet and Clank level. Call it Mega Man World and use the name for a game.

Getting ahead of myself.

RetroCaptainSteve796d ago

Nah, some good suggestions. There's always room for more!

ApocalypseShadow796d ago

There's so many arcade games that never got a home release or were downgraded for home release. I'd take those original games and games that never released in the West as collections.

Maybe lead other companies to drop some collections on the market. Sega, Konami and Namco should be next. So many classic games out there.

FallenAngel1984797d ago

You know what else would be essential?

A collection that featured

- X-Men: Children of the Atom
- Marvel Super Heroes
- X-Men vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes

That’d more than rejuvenate interest in their second most successful fighting game series

darthv72796d ago

All of those are near and dear to me. wolverine and his weapon X special move is still my favorite.

CosmicTurtle796d ago

Also that SNES side scroller X-Men: mutant apocalypse. The forgotten marvel Capcom game with an amazing soundtrack.

RetroCaptainSteve796d ago

Funny, that's in the Arcade1up I got with X-Men vs. Street Fighter.

RetroCaptainSteve796d ago

Not to mention Rival Schools, Power Stone, Star Gladiator, and the Street Fighter EX games. Full 3D, please.

Chevalier796d ago

Same. It's so F'n expensive for that Capcom fighting stick. Capcom should Remaster the DnD games and see if they can make a 3rd one to capitalize on the popularity of DnD right now.

Chevalier796d ago

I would love an arcade collection with Alien Vs. Predator, both DnD games, Captain Commando etc

RetroCaptainSteve796d ago

I can't believe Alien vs. Predator is limited to that lame Capcom fighting stick.

jaymacx796d ago

We know Capcom would do this but Disney needs to make this happen.

I’m hyped. I’m buying because I want another darkstalkers. There are also a few others I’ve never tried. Red something or another?

darthv72796d ago

I'd be stoked if Lord Raptor could rise again for a new DS game. Red Earth is the other one you are thinking of and don't forget Cyberbots. That is where Jin (as found in MvC and MvC2) originally came from.

sourOG796d ago

Red earth that’s right. Never tried cyber it’s either but I do indeed know Jin.

autobotdan796d ago

Hyper Street Fighter 2 is the greatest Street Fighter of all time possibly the greatest fighting game of all time. If you argue against this you will meet your quick end by Akuma

CyberSentinel796d ago

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors
Night Warriors: Darkstalkers’ Revenge
Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers’ Revenge
Street Fighter II The Anniversary Edition
Red Earth
Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire
Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire 2

Thank You, Capcom!!

Physical release?

sourOG796d ago

Do you think they are trying to see which one is played more? It seems they are going more realistic with street fighter and letting these IP duke it out for the new anime vibe game.

ApocalypseShadow796d ago (Edited 796d ago )

If anything, it'd have to be Darkstalkers using UE4 or UE5. With even better, diorama like backgrounds that would look sick. Their specials would look crazy in 3D.

If SNK is getting in on it making 3D KofF games and Samurai Showdown(and they have so many other fighters to update that I'd love to see), Capcom needs to bring Darkstalkers up to date but still have that 2D reaction speed.

Could even add a side scrolling beat em mode like Namco did with Tekken. A SF or DS beat em up mode.

Chevalier796d ago

@Apocalypse

Would love a new Darkstalkers, but, if it's going to be 3D I hope they make it look more like how Guilty Gear does it. If they go 2D then they should make it like the Meltyblood fighting game that came out last year.

ApocalypseShadow796d ago

Chevalier...EXACTLY!!

Eye melting characters that look straight out of Anime with backgrounds that match that are 3D textured to look 2D.

Truth be known, I miss hand drawn not just in games but in Anime like the old days. Movement and animation so impressive with parallax scrolling, that it puts current anime and cartoons to shame. A lot of these current cartoons and anime just look ugly and move ugly.

The characters in SF6 look good if that's the Anime Realism Capcom are looking for. But if they really wanted to push it, they'd take SF back to its roots to number 2 but ramp up the detail to either the detail we see in the GOW art images
https://www.eventhubs.com/n...
or the detail of this Chun-Li figure you see here
https://cdna.artstation.com...
with photogrammetry backgrounds of real places animated to look real. But it would look like SF2.

Either way, I'd take 2D greatness or realism seen above. I'd even take an SF that looks like the animated movie that came out years ago.
