Capcom: "We'd prefer a game that got a 9 and sold less, than a 6 but sold more"

From Gameindustry.biz: "Fans have been clamouring for a new version of RE2 since the first game was recreated on the GameCube in 2002. Back then, Resident Evil was known for its fixed camera angles to heighten the tension, and clunky controls (called Tank Controls) that made combat particularly never-wracking."

“Resident Evil 2 is not a typical Capcom remaster.”

No shit that’s because it’s a remake.

“The firm decided against suffixing the word 'Remake' to the title, because it's positioning this as a major launch akin to Resident Evil 7.”

Remakes never have the word remake in the title, they just reuse the title they’re based on.

“The game was actually in development at the same time as RE7, which means there are now two teams working on mainline Resident Evil games.”

Wouldn’t be the first time that happened. Two teams worked in tandem to make

- Resident Evil 3 & Resident Evil – Code: Veronica
- Resident Evil 0 & Resident Evil remake
- Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil 6

“Fans weren't happy, so therefore we went a different way.”

Funny to hear how Capcom says they’re listening to their fans with new entrees in Mega Man & Devil May Cry after a long period of time, yet they botched up Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite a lot. Many design decisions with that title seemed like a big F U to longtime fans.

Are you always this pissed???

bouzebbal2096d ago

for me Capcom changed to the better this gen.
RE2 looks hot!!
RE7 is looking great (haven't played it yet)
new DMC
...

darthv722096d ago

All of these are remakes because technically they already had remasters. Back on the GCN you had 1, 2 and 3 which were all remasters of the PS1 games.

DVAcme2095d ago

@bouzebbal Not to mention thst few games give you as much friggin' bang for your buck as Monster Hunter World. I only spent the initial $60 for admission and there's STILL loads of DLC for free dropping every few weeks. It's friggin' amazing.

Still, I'm crossing my fingers for Dragon's Dogma 2...

@PhoenixUp Your lack of sense hurts my brain.

KwietStorm_BLM2096d ago

Let it all out. We're all friends here.

Sirk7x2096d ago

RE2, Monster Hunter World, RE7, Megaman 11, Capcom has been doing very well lately and I will support their efforts. Not really completely their fault of all the licensing drama that happened with Disney and MVC.

CorndogBurglar2096d ago

To be fair, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite had a lot of interference from Marvel. Marvel tells them what characters to include and there are even rumors that they had a part in what the visuals would look like.

Has capcom learned their lesson?

StuM2095d ago

When are we judging the comparison of their re-emergence? Post Res Evil 6?

If so, I truly believe they have indeed reverted to the classic A-rated games producer I remember all the way back from the SNES days

Harkins17212096d ago

Great time to make a Mega Man Legends 3 game then.

Sirk7x2096d ago

There was one in production for 3DS that got cancelled years ago. Sad times.

Harkins17212096d ago

Oh I know. This just reconfirms the idea is a solid one.

slavish02096d ago

actions speak louder then words

Profchaos2096d ago

I'd agree with that statement when you look at releases like watch dogs poor to mixed reception but selling truckloads tarnished the franchise because when people actually got to play it most didn't enjoy it.

Then watchdogs 2 rolls around ubisoft addresses the criticisms and nails it they have a significantly improved sequal in every which way but wd1 left such a bad impression that wd2 didn't sell.

UltraNova2096d ago (Edited 2096d ago )

Thing is there are so many alternatives and choice today that if you f*** up once and even worse the first time, then you are done, most likely, people will simply go elsewhere and never come back no matter how much you improve your work next time. I believe we will see the same thing happen with the Mass Effect IP.

Profchaos2096d ago

That's true I belive in 2nd chances I've played lots of bad games with good squeals but I see why people avoid franchises after a mis step.

As for mass effect fingers crossed for another game which will hopefully redeem itself

The prevalence of parrying: Why is it so popular?

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.

New Resident Evil 2 Remake Fixed Camera Mod Adds A Nostalgic Twist

A new mod brings the highly nostalgic fixed angles to the Resident Evil 2 remake, bringing the game closer to the original 1998 experience.

REmake vs. Resident Evil 2: Which Remake Template is Better?

REmake kept the original style adding new flavour and graphics, Resident Evil 2 is a complete modernisation. Which remake style is superior?

TheBrainZ73d ago

The GameCube remake was stunning for its time but the new modernisation efforts are breathing some much-needed life into the older games.

kevco3373d ago

I loved the GC remake back in 2000-whatever. But I tried replaying it recently and just couldn't deal with the door loading sequences.

Have I been spoilt by modern games? Probably.

Neonridr73d ago

tank controls just don't work in this day and age.

Babadook772d ago

I think Tomb Raider still works but RE I'm not sure.

Neonridr72d ago

@Babadook7 - imagine an updated Resident Evil or Tomb Raider with tank controls? you can't walk and turn at the same time. It would be ridiculous to play.

__y2jb73d ago

Both are fantastic but the old style controls and the half way house attempt to modernize them in remake both feel extremely dated now. Taking away your preference for the various settings and characters, the recent remakes are objectively better games.

rippermcrip73d ago

I think anyone voting for REmake is simply doing it out of nostalgia. No way a new young gamer is going to pick that over the new ones. I couldn't even get my son to play the game for more than an hour.

KyRo73d ago

Nope. REmake has a totally different vibe, feel and tension that the newer remakes can't replicate due to the camera angle. Yes the original fixed camera was used for technical reason but at the same time, they created a feeling of dread not knowing what was around the corner. You simply don't get that with a third person camera as great as the third person RE games are.

FYouDad72d ago

Depends what sort of experience you're looking for. If you enjoy the old fixed camera OG style then REmake is to me the pinnacle of the form. Incredible atmosphere, visual style and a fantastic revision of Resident Evil 1 with additions that feel completely seamless. Resident Evil 2 Remake in an excellent update (especially running with the IMO vastly superior original RE2 soundtrack) with the benefits of modern design but I still prefer the original game.. it didn't "overwrite" that experience in my mind the way REmake felt like it became the definitive RE1 experience.
