Spyro Reignited Trilogy faced a controversy recently once some ardent fans discovered that the retail version of the game will require a content download.

"As with most games today, downloading an update after purchase is quite common"

day one patches for stability fixes or bugs and downloading entire games are two completely different things altogether.

darthv722134d ago

This could be Activision's way of driving people to the digital marketplace to buy the 'full' game.

Neonridr2133d ago

or kill off the used market.. :P

playnice2133d ago

It's a d_ck move. Period.

Cmv382133d ago (Edited 2133d ago )

We were already heading this direction with the day 1 patches for every game. Just a matter of time before a company uses the benefits of day 1 patches in this light.

nucky642133d ago

well, darth it did drive me......away from purchasing the game.

Then we should accuse them of willingly and knowingly releasing a shoddy game. I mean, if they need that month between going gold and release to complete an entire two games in the trilogy, then they may be rushing it.

Or just call a spade a spade, and keep saying how its BS that they're locking most of the game behind a download, likely to prevent resale losses. I mean, if you really consider it, its actually more than 2/3 of the game, because the first game was kind of short compared to the other two.

Profchaos2133d ago

How did it prevent resale as soon as the disc is detected it begins a download is not tied to an account

rainslacker2132d ago

If it does that, then fine. So long as said content remains available indefinitely. Considering Activision has more removals from digital services than any other company, I wouldn't put my faith in them for the long term

MWH2132d ago

It's apparent that major game publishers think all gamers are simple minded and will believe and eat every BS thrown at them.

Do you wonder why?

-Foxtrot2134d ago

Are they f****** high?

There's a huge difference between having day one updates for patches and downloading two thirds of the game you've just bought.

I feel like they just live in LaLa land half the time but this right here demonstrates how equal Activision and EA are. You might think EA is worse but the only difference is EA is like a bull in a china shop, they'll make noise, break things and move to the next place while Activision would take a stealthier and more quiet approach to minimize complaints.

See how they got a high off the Crash Bandicoot remake trilogy though and now for the next game they think they can screw us over because they think it'll just net them high sales automatically based on nostalgia. That's Activision...if we let this shit continue then it'll be even worse with the next game and it could end up being Crash Team Racing.

Dario_DC2133d ago

When you have the games like the uncharted trilogy on a single blu-ray there's no excuse! I'm not buying this game at all.

Profchaos2133d ago

The uncharted trilogy was not in 4k

TheUndertaker852132d ago (Edited 2132d ago )

44.46GB is required even with the disc version

playnice2133d ago

Damn they better not repeat this with CTR!

badz1492133d ago

NO BUY! and I urge my fellow gamers to do the same

LgbtWarrior2133d ago

Why because your a physical preferred gamer? 50% of us are digital. No prob for us. Just because something isn’t to your liking you call a boycott? stupid.

Liqu1d2132d ago

@Lgbt Then go and buy digital. When people buy physical media then they expect to have everything on that that disc, only having 1/3 of the product on the disc is stupid.

rainslacker2132d ago

@lgbt

I guarantee you that there are a good number of people who like these kinds of compilations who prefer physical, and as of now, it's not a 50/50split. Even if it were, 50% of your market is nothing to disregard when it's not even necessary

Sciurus_vulgaris2134d ago

Activision doesn't have an excuse besides greed, there is very likely no technical reason for all 3 remastered games not to be on disc. After the success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane, you would think there would be no reason to fight used sales of Spyro Reignited Trilogy, besides greed.

Mr_Writer852132d ago

I might be wrong but many are speculating they have done this to get the game out early.

The other 2 games whilst finished/nearly finished are not ready to go gold, so rather than delay they have put one on the disc and others as a download to give them time to finish.

CyberSentinel2134d ago

This press release does NOT confirm that all 3 games are on the included physical media.

TheGamez1002134d ago

Came in expecting to find a dumb excuse....as expected

playnice2133d ago

They go in assuming we're all idiots. I hope gamers can prove them wrong and shake some sense into them killing their launch sales.

Nothing is guaranteed in this life, so don't wait on anything.

5 Missions That Made Us Rage Quit

KeenGamer: "Rage quitting is something we've all done, and it's never pretty. See which missions end up being the most rage-inducing of them all. Some missions go beyond the threshold of difficulty and test our abilities and patience to the limit, forever scarring players with the grinding cycle of try, fail and repeat."

5am in Emily wants to play. The R in its RNG stands for rage lol.

Fluke_Skywalker1013d ago

The elevator in GOW Ascension made me rage quit so hard I uninstalled the game and never did go back to it. I'm not proud of that. I have played and loved every GOW game but that level just took the utter piss out of me.

Trying for the no guns achievement on Mirrors Edge broke both me, and a set of car keys which was the closest thing in grabbing distance that wasnt a controller.
