Activision Comments On Spyro Reignited Trilogy Mandatory Download Requirements

Spyro Reignited Trilogy faced a controversy recently once some ardent fans discovered that the retail version of the game will require a content download.

Then we should accuse them of willingly and knowingly releasing a shoddy game. I mean, if they need that month between going gold and release to complete an entire two games in the trilogy, then they may be rushing it.

Or just call a spade a spade, and keep saying how its BS that they're locking most of the game behind a download, likely to prevent resale losses. I mean, if you really consider it, its actually more than 2/3 of the game, because the first game was kind of short compared to the other two.

There's a huge difference between having day one updates for patches and downloading two thirds of the game you've just bought.

I feel like they just live in LaLa land half the time but this right here demonstrates how equal Activision and EA are. You might think EA is worse but the only difference is EA is like a bull in a china shop, they'll make noise, break things and move to the next place while Activision would take a stealthier and more quiet approach to minimize complaints.

See how they got a high off the Crash Bandicoot remake trilogy though and now for the next game they think they can screw us over because they think it'll just net them high sales automatically based on nostalgia. That's Activision...if we let this shit continue then it'll be even worse with the next game and it could end up being Crash Team Racing.

Activision doesn't have an excuse besides greed, there is very likely no technical reason for all 3 remastered games not to be on disc. After the success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane, you would think there would be no reason to fight used sales of Spyro Reignited Trilogy, besides greed.

I might be wrong but many are speculating they have done this to get the game out early.

The other 2 games whilst finished/nearly finished are not ready to go gold, so rather than delay they have put one on the disc and others as a download to give them time to finish.

Shouldn't be a problem if its an actual update where anyone with the disc can download it. But as a collector of games, and a lover of compilations, things like this don't appeal to me at all. Mostly because I don't trust that the content will be on the servers forever, making the value of the compilation pretty minimal. I may get it when its cheap, so long as I can at least download the games still.

Of course, if this scheme of theirs actually affects sales, then they'll just say that people aren't interested in the series, thus killing it without much hope for the future. They won't bother to think their decision to do this is the actual reason, no matter how much people complain about it. Publishers tend to live in their own little bubble, and they don't seem to want to just do things that don't piss off the vocal fan base.

No you are free to sell and borrow is just an update the same as any game you put in your console that has a internet connection it will go out and find the update and download it without tying the game to any account

Your assuming that's the case. Better scenario is that all games are on the disc and playable, and any download requirement is for small patches. Small updates are a far cry from 2/3 of the game content requiring an internet connection. The fact a game requires an internet connection to even work actually doesn't meet compliance standards of the console makers, with the exception of mp games or it's components. But it's something that the console makers have been lax on for a while now as they try to keep these companies releasing games on their system.

I was going to grab Spyro for my Xbox just to get it a new game plus its a platformer. But only one game thats playable on disc the other two games are digital only well this is a pass for me. I hate digital games and also trading the game is pointless now if the codes are used for the other two games. I would have settled with two or three blu-ray discs like my MMX Legacy collection had for my PS4 it has two discs. Guess I'll just have to play my PS1 copies of Spyro and my PS3 copy of Spyro now thanks a lot Activision.

You can still sell or trade the game it acts like a patch it's not tied to anything just pop the disc in any console and it will automatically download the patch no codes or account required

You trade in the MMX Legacy collection on Switch the second game has a digital code once that code is used its tied to your account. So when you trade the game in you're only trading in the first game not the second game. So if somebody buys your traded in copy of MMX Legacy collection they are only getting the first game and they will have to turn around and buy the second game. It's no different then trading in a game that has DLC that comes with it once those codes are used and the game is traded in and they buy the game they have to pay for the DLC. Now if you traded in a PS4 copy or an XB1 copy of the MMX Legacy the person who buys the game used still gets both games because both games are physically on two blu-ray discs no digital codes.

It's not a download code, when you put this disc in (even second hand) it starts downloading the other 2 games like a game update.

I bought the Dead Island Definitive "Collection" on disc for PS4 and it came with 1 game on the disc and a download code for everything else. No mention ANYWHERE on the packaging that the "collection" part was bullshit. It's a deliberate lie of omission...

I'm not defending Activision but more often than not everything isn't on disc nowadays. There's usually a day one patch that fixes bugs. Granted usually the bugs it fixes aren't game breaking but it still means the game on disc is not perfect. So one day all these games will only be playable with bugs. It's not ideal and if it is downloading games 2 and 3 that's shocking but they haven't confirmed that, they've just left it super vague.

Im sick of these updates. Devs need to get their $h*t together and release a completed game. Updating only when necessary. Its unavoidable at this point though. So many just dont care and slap band aids all over it well after launch knowing they released it broken. Its pretty much pointless to get physical copies for most games. No physical manual & required updates. Online gaming was a double edged sword
