Ni no Kuni II is broken and no one knows how to fix it

Ben Fordy says "Ever since the launch Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom on 28 March the internet has been riff with numerous PlayStation 4 users reporting of frequent issues with the game freezing and crashing. In addition, the Steam community is also reporting similar game breaking problems."

Got to the very last chapter and had no resolve to continue. Probably my most disappointing game this year. Although now that they've incorporated difficulty settings I may have to dive back in. It wasn't that the game was neccessary you bad, it just had so much to live up to imo.

MrSwankSinatra2138d ago

I've actually been hearing from many that Ni No Kuni II just doesn't live up to the first game, is this true. I have yet to purchase it.

CaptainOmega2138d ago

It's just a short RPG in terms of the main story. It only has 9 chapters. It's a good game nonetheless. Buy it if you want to wait for a price drop.

naruga2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

i didint play th 1st one (but i saw many wlakthroughs) i bought the sequel only,,,,the game while it oozes from beauty , is ultra boring , not challenging and childish i couldnt play even the 1/2 of the game before i eject it out of PS4 (i will keep it and finish it definately as collection but is not of these games that keep you absorbed from start ot finish

notachance2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

I platinumed it,

if I have to summarise, it's polished both in gameplay and graphics but lacks the soul of the first. e.g they killed a close person to MC here like they did in the first but here it felt like a cheap plot instead of heartbreaking moment in the first game.

It's also too easy even on the hardest difficulty..

mkis0072138d ago

I just got my kingdom and I'm enjoying it enough...its easy though...doesnt bother me.

The Wood2137d ago

I'm with 'not a chance' here. It lacks the soul of the first game. It's not a bad game. .it's just it's not on the same level as the first one. I've started it but haven't had the energy to finish it. I hope it picks up

kevnb2137d ago

thats true, but its still a good game.

thorstein2137d ago

That is true, but the first game was amazing.. so not living up to amazing is still pretty damn good.

CurbStompin2137d ago

Yeah I found it boring. Not as unique as the first one. Wish we could get a remaster of the original.

InKnight7s2137d ago

If you like Dragon Quest.
Get DQ Heroes 2 is the same game but with better gameplay and better character characters makes sense and play more roles and fun.

@SwankSinatra absolutely. The disagrees have never played the first game. Or just rabid. It ditches the collectible pocket monster system in favor of a traditional action rpg experience. The studio Ghibli aesthetic is still a HUGE BRIGHT SPOT. The combat is waaaay to easy but the addition of difficulty settings through a recent update remedy this somewhat. It also feels extremely linear despite being open world. None of the characters are overly interesting, and the story is suprisingly cliche. I'll find the will to beat it eventually but it was definitely a huge disappointment for me

Segata2138d ago

Ghibli had nothing to do with this game and the overworld the anime characters clash with the realistic textures.

Cobra9512137d ago

Not true, Segata. The same people are involved. Studio Ghibli has practically disbanded, but their artistry lives on in their more talented staff.

Sm00thNinja2137d ago

@segata actually read what I wrote next time. No WHERE DID I SAY STUDIO GHIBLI WAS EVEN INVOLVED. Please look up the definition of aesthetic next time.

Teflon022137d ago

I've played both, own both and platinumed the second and I definitely disagree. I'm actually shocked someone played up to the last chapter and didn't finish. The games story really gets good from chapter 6 until the end. The game had a great end. The only problem was it was extremely easy apart from the tainted which only a few were hard. That damn mushroom and the Fairy at tainted 57 or something. Also the first game was great, but the game was pretty boring in Dungeon traversal and was very slow in comparison to the second game. They have different strengths and weaknesses and I love them both about the same

Well I loved the game, got the kingdom to its final level. Just waiting for the dlc to jump back in.

I had no technical issues in my playthrough.

shammgod2137d ago

The skirmishes is what caused me to quit the game right before the end. I just couldnt bring myself to do the skirmishes.

The game was very easy too. Difficulty tweaks would have kept me engaged. The story was very light and could use work

thorstein2137d ago

Yeah? There are difficulty settings. They came in the last patch....

joab7772137d ago

The difficulty settings change EVERYTHING! What used to be the most basic rpg ever made, opens right up when you put it in the hardest setting. Now, all of the systems have purpose and are required. Each battle is more than just a grind fest.

Sm00thNinja2137d ago

I'll have to pick it back up for sure based on this recommendation. It sounds interesting!

BadElf2137d ago

Yeah, I was sad. Didnt get far into it. The first Ni No was one of my top 3 favorite games of that generation...and bought a PS4 mainly for the second one. But...Im sad.

Elda2138d ago

I had fun with it but trying to fully develop the kingdom was a pain & I didn't complete about 15 side quest due to the fact they were a pain as well but overall I enjoyed the game.

Segata2138d ago

Remake it as the game is just bad top to bottom nearly. Despite coming out 5 years later it feels like a game that was rushed. Feels like it has less budget and a straight to home video Disney sequel. The only thing they improved was the combat..other than that everything else was a major step backward.

kevnb2137d ago

I like the old combat system better actually.

Nick_Shively2137d ago

I personally disliked the old combat system. Not necessarily the fighting itself, but it was counter-intuitive to evolve your creatures because they had to start out at level 1 again. This created way too much unnecessary grinding that wasn't fun at all. Most of the time you had to stagger your evolutions and gimp yourself with a low level creature in late game stages so you could progress. No other game punishes you for trying to progress like this.

Segata2137d ago

The problem was it's grind-heavy RPG and while grinding ina RPG can be fine this game used the wrong kind of combat system for grinding. Combat for those kinds of RPGs should be simpler and be fairly quick. So the system wasn't terrible in its own right but they either should have removed the grind-heavy approach or used a quicker combat system.

TheColbertinator2138d ago

Level 5 needs to return to glory again. This requires a partnership with Sony Japan again.

blackblades2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

Hell a lot of devs mainly jp devs needs to return to glory again they been slipping after ps2. It's like they lost there way or something.

blackblades2137d ago

So what ya saying that the lastest star ocean games, tales and other series etc... isn't as good as they use to be.
