Freedom Planet creates its own memorable world and characters while paying homage to Sonic the Hedgehog.
Luckily for those deterred by Sonic Frontiers' high price, there are several other games that capture the same spirit at a lower price point.

This was meant to be a Sonic the Hedgehog fan game, hence why the characters and stages have similar characteristics. The developer changed his mind halfway through and decided to make it an original title that harkened back to a retro style of gaming.
ZiyoLing initially created Lilac as a hedgehog, but her design went through several iterations and eventually became a water dragon. This design can be seen in early gameplay footage.
When pressed for what to call the game they'd nearly finished, Strife said whatever two words came out of his mouth next would be the name they stuck with. Since the protagonists are fighting against a conquering alien, "freedom", and for the sake of their home, "planet", thus, Freedom Planet. The similarity to the Sonic OVA's setting of Planet Freedom was unintentional, they simply thought the title sounded catchy.
Bought this before but never got a chance to play it on my wii u. I stored it after i hooked the switch up to my TV. Ill get it again though.. The reviews were good and i like the pixel art.. If only the sega said "screw 3D" and embraced 2D, we mightve got a Sonic game with gorgeous pixel art.
