New Atari VCS Tribute Edition Announced

Due to the incredible demand for the retro-inspired model and overwhelming success of Atari’s VCS Indiegogo Pre-Sale campaign, Atari has announced a second production run of the wood-faced units, now called the Atari VCS Tribute Edition, as a tribute to their fans and the enduring appeal of the Atari 2600-inspired design.

I saw some youtubers like rgt85 and dreamcastguy saying this might be scam and showed some pretty telling points as to why.
I'll wait until official release and then buy one if the reviews are good.

this "collector's edition" or Tribute Edition as it is called now certainly is. It costs $100 extra dollars to get a small piece of wood panelling on the front, along with a number on the back of the unit and a certificate. No upgraded internals or additional games or anything over the black unit. I was hoping for more for such a "premium" item.

Every so often someone buys the Atari trademark and then releases something with the brand name and then you never hear from it again until the next person picks it up.

It's definitely some type of scam/money laundering scheme right up there with Gizmondo.

This is such a missed opportunity to really create a true Atari box. Meaning a unit that plays the full compliment of Atari games from the arcade and home consoles. To have all their systems represented in one would be sweet. Instead, we get.... this.

This is sounding no different than the Retro Engine Sigma which was a complete letdown and false advertising. They never even sent the right the power cord so I could never power it up. I emailed them for a replacement cord after sending pictures and they send me a euro adapter without the cord. Won't get burned again.

This is going to be another stepping stone on the Atari failure timeline, and it's not even the old Atari either.

I want to get this when it's bargain bin price and going out the door because there's going to be very few out in the wild, and that's all it's good for is collecting for later.

This reads like PR press release garbage, i seriously doubt that demand for this vaporware system has been "incredible". Seems like a scam to me.
