They did show Dreams. Used scenes from the game for in between segments anyway.

Really, where MS came off as talking to - at - everyone who was online as apposed to the physical audience, Sony held parties for several small groups that were briefly interrupted by trailers and had one main presentation for the people who just wanted to see trailers. We the online audience got the latter plus a lame halftime-like opening segment.

On a serious note. I think people forget, for Sony people complained about them showing games that will not be played within a year or so; so what did they do? They listened and started showing games that will be played in the next few months to the public. So they started showing future games at other events. Then they also created another showcase that they own, PSX. Fans created this so they shouldn't complain about what is shown at E3.

For MS, to me, E3 is there bread and butter where they have to prove themselves to the gaming population each year. To me they have nothing to lose so they always go all out. Also by having there showcase, usually before Sony's, They show games that we know Sony won't show at their presser.

Either way, I thought this was a good E3. We as gamer got what we wanted because this is what we asked for. Yes, me may have wanted to see new games but...we will just have to wait for another event.

I liked TLOU2 & Spiderman but honestly their show as a whole
was really underwhelming, actually got boring for long periods of talking.

Microsofts show was much better, filled with games even if most were 3rd party there were lots of premeires & good announcements especially Halo Infinity with new engine looked spectacular but they lacked any NEW blockbuster 1st party games, 1st party aquisitions was a step in the right direction but those fruits are years from being ripe.

I was about to answer the same. These newborn xbox 1x elitist seem to forget that out of the only 30 million xbox 1's sold, 1x's are only a tiny fraction of the total number, given the slow pace x1 is selling overall, there are probably not much more than 500.000 units of 1x in the wild.

Variety is about game genres and game types not new IPs.

That said, I was happy with Sony's variety as well, although I would give the edge slightly to XB. Simply because there seemed to be a lot of genres. And good games in all the genres.

Darkvoyager, the difference being MS likely showed most of their hand at E3, whereas Sony has been known to only show some and save some for the other gaming shows. This is why, for instance, we only saw Dreams appear in the form of segues between games, Sony didn't want to devote time to it this time, saving it for a later reveal. E3's presser is starting to become a back burner thing for Sony, I'm noticing they do many of their big reveals either at events they throw themselves, or at other shows like TGS, Gamescom, etc.

That’s only for the few who own an x1x. For most gamers the PlayStation is the better place to buy multiplats. And in any case the difference is never enough to overcome exclusive offerings. Fans of nier or hellblade were much better served on Sony as they played those games first.

I think what's interesting is MS showcased never before seen 3rd party games such as Sekiro and Jump Force. MS did have the same stuff. Halo, Gears, Forza along with Crackdown, Ori and Battletoads. Sony did have the bigger better 1st party games overall. I'm not seeing any losers most of the pressers so far. Bethesda, MS and Sony did very well, while EA is failure at life. Nintendo tomorrow hope they do well.

EA was complete trash. If only they had announced Skate 4 hahaha. Didn't care too much for Bethesda except Doom (not a huge fan of their games I'll admit) but I'm curious about Starfield. ES6 was way too premature but I imagine they dropped that just to get people to stop asking. But I honestly thought MS and Sony both killed it. Sure we saw the big 3 from MS but they also gave us DMC5 and Sekiro with gameplay. Not to mention they clearly heard the feedback and showed all of the studios they acquired which they desperately needed. Also CYBERPUNK too (no gameplay 😭😭😭). Sony killed it with all of the gameplay though. I mean damn Spiderman looks awesome. Also thought Square was garbage too. I knew FF7 was having issues but to not even mention it was a huge fail for them. And Sony had better footage of KH3 than they did.

I love these games, and am excited to play them.
More exciting is the future, it is obvious that MS is serious, investing in studios, striking deals with publishers for timed exclusivity and getting Japanese publishers on MS stage is message that they are committed and investing.
We won’t see these benefits until next gen but they have made as a good a move as they could have and for me the MS conference was the best conference for gamers. (Irrespective Of platform)

I cant say variety is key with those games when there Franchises that come very often which will cancel out. But what blows my mind is that everyone has been talking about Spider-Man,tlou2,death stranding and Ghost of Tsushima which are great and different variety styles of gameplay but what about Remedy and 505s new game Control. I was more interested in that game and wanting more then the other 4. I think it threw a lot of us because they wanted to demonstrate something really artsy, gutsy, and different. They've already got the volume (# games, #exclusived, #gamers), so they don't need to prove that and you can see trailers anytime. They went on a limb and did something ballsy, like constructing a tent that looks like a scene in a game and then moving everyone. I like surprises and technology news better than seeing scenes from games I'm gonna play later, so it wasn't my cup of tea, but I think I understand why they did it.

I'm an avid sony fan and have thoroughly enjoyed most of their e3s this gen, but this was horrible. Yes the games looked great, but the pacing was terrible. The format they choose had me yawning.

And who the hell thought it was a good idea to have an awkward panel in the middle of the conference.

Some of the trailers were very drawn out as well. Some of them should have been cut in half.

And Neil Druckman's forced forced feminism in TLOU2 had me eye rolling with the lesbianism on full display right near the start. And before some sexist person tells me "hur dur! you just hate women! Hur dur!", I have no issue with female characters, it's when it's shoved down my throat that I have a problem.

Eh. The trailer is just emphasizing the narrative, which IIRC is supposed to be about hate this time, as opposed to love in Part 1.

They're juxtaposing the intimacy of the dancing and kissing with the brutality of the fighting. And based on Ellie's facial expressions it seems that she's having a bit of trouble with accepting intimacy. So they're already setting up the story's major questions already. Like, is Ellie capable of genuine love, or is she too consumed by hate? Or something like that. Idk.

i think your'e reading too much into it, looking back at uncharted trailers and even the first teaser for last of us part 2 - which set the tone perfectly may i add- none of that was forced like this scene was.

i'll put it this way: i'm a big fan of this game, definitely a day one, but Neil chose this scene just for the sake of it, there was no deeper meaning behind choosing it, nothing at all. He could've picked a way better scene for setting up the game tone as he did with uncharted 4 / last of us 1 / 2 teaser.

He just wanted to cater to a certain crowd and make a statement period. He did already reveal Ellie was gay in the DLC, and it was perfectly executed, why ? because it rolled with the moment and context. This one is just here for the sake of it.

Its a narrative technique used in movies too, not the lesbian kissing but the polar opposites showing how different one person can, what they are comfortable with and what they aren't.

It is sometime used in comedies as well, a great example would be seeing a police officer writing a simple police report on regards to a confrontation. And how it went all by the books, and while that scene is happening they cut it scenes from the actual confrontation, which pretty much show the police officer beating up the perp.

It showed the difference in her comfort level between the killing and having a relationship.

Yeah, this Sony conference was horrible. Good games there but the presentation was really bad and it just ended suddenly, wirhout a warning. For 15-20 minutes after I didn't know what is going on. Did it really end or another intermission? I didn't know.

A normal person just sees a major character who now has a love interest, which would be a key plot point given A) the environment they live in and the risks involved and B) the fact that the last time we saw this character, she was just a kid, so it helps indicate how much older she now is and how stakes have changed now that she is an adult. If the other person had been a dude it wouldn't have changed the importance of the scene.

Taking walks, going to a park, being outside for a bit always helps. If you aren't moving, Something happens to your body and mind that is really hard to quantify. I had a motorcycle accident back in October, was in the ICU for 24 days, had 28 broken bones in my face, ripped my thyroid gland, fractured my 5th vertebrae, broke my jaw and voicebox, broke the palate in my mouth and shattered my right patella on my knee, on top of having two frontal hematomas and 12 second degree burns on both legs...

and strangely enough, it was the surgery done on my knee that bothered me most, I was told that I couldn't walk for at least 6 months while the knee healed (had three large titanium screws inserted to stabilize it) and that was the worst. Not moving made me super depressed, and I had already been dealing with it for many years prior.

Now that I've been able to get out and walk (and trust me, I am not one of those, "GET OFF YOUR ASS" people) it really helps to clear your mind.

EDIT: and when it comes down to consuming any form of media, I find that when you are ready, a movie/book/ game that actually delves deep into the human condition and explores all facets of life as we know it is far more healthy than consuming something that ignores actual issues. The former might make you feel a bit sadder, but less alone, the latter will just piss you off.

Or you can do what I did when I lost my childhood cat of 18 years last year, and read something like George Carlin's "Three Times Carlin" anthology bookset, because levity helps, too.

That is very true, that's what it should be about and Sony showed they have the best ones but at some point along the way E3 has become just as much if not more about how those games are presented than the games themselves. EXACTLY, they still have PSX later this year. And Sony showing us so much gameplay of the big four games coming shows that they've been busy and that the games are very close to completion. No other company in the show showed any game anywhere near as polished, except Bethesda with Fallout 76 and maybe Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Ubisoft didn't show any other game at that level. Microsoft and EA showed practically no gameplay for their games, and Bethesda's big games are a ways off. It's PALPABLE how close we are to playing Sony's games.

And also, Sony has shown something VERY important that Microsoft seriously needs to learn: SUPPORT FOR THEIR DEVELOPERS. Who made the big four? Kojima Studios, Insomniac, Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog. One of them is an exciting new stufio headed by an industry legend going through a creatuve rennaissance after being stifled for years by his former employers and the other three have been Sony's backbone for generations. Microsoft doesn't even come close to that.

I couldn't care less who's conference was the best cuz at the end this year all gamers won with lots of content shown and it looks like MS is finding their way back to being competitive with Sony. Competition should make everyone happy because the competition will force all the companies to push ahead faster and farther whether you are a Sony, XB, Switch, PC, or whatever gamer.... To me I like them all! (But I would prefer if game platform vendors would get together and come up with an OS and hardware standard that I could buy and play everything)

Agree with this 100%. The weidest part is that they did this one long block of pacekilling right after TLOU 2 where they had that panel with the Cod, Destiny and already announced games trailers. Who on earth thought that completely killing the pace after such an amazing gameplay reveal was a good idea? If they cut all of that out and go right from the end of TLOU 2 presentation to the beginning of Ghost of Tsushima the conference would've been amazing.

The Last of us showing was something for the fans over there.
It was a weired format for us at home.

The real conference started with Ghost of tsushima.

The decision to move the audience from one venue to the other was a huge mistake, and created a boring overly long intermission section that got laughable with all the "we are just seconds away", it was embarrassing. Judged on just games alone they are the clear winner and no one can touch them but their E3 presentation this year was terrible and I hope to never see that again.

I think Naughty Dog was fleshing Ellie's background with this, but also showing the soft and dark side of the character with this. They were also showcasing good transitional story mechanics and not just a dialogue choice like Mass Effect & Dragon Age. They game looks absolutely stunning and visceral.

I found the format to be a hit and a miss. While it was different, the intermission at the beginning was a huge wall in in the flow of the presentation. I loved the gameplay, but in terms of an e3 presentation, they've done better.

However by better I mean in terms of shock and awe. In regards to giving us tangible information, they did great (gameplay instead of just a 1 minute teaser). We always get frustrated when we're 2-3 years out from the game actually releasing so I don't mind what they chose to do, I just dislike how much time was wasted on us waiting for them to change venues - I mean who actually thought that was a good idea? It wasn't anywhere close to seamless.

I thought Sony’s conference was great actually. Quirkiness aside, I liked that Sony focused more on gameplay than trailers and marketing speech; which to me translates to a show more for gamers than investors. And that Gustavo Santaolalla opener was great IMO.

The Last of Us 2 was literately jaw dropping w/ its graphics and how she reacts in action in what seemed to be real-time gameplay. I’ve also never been a Metal Gear fan, but am now more excited w/ Death Standing as it didn’t seem to be so action-focused, like a Metal Gear clone, which was what I was more expecting.

I’m looking forward to seeing more at GamesCom and PSX. It seems like Sony is focusing hard on story and narrative/character-driven games lately, which is what I wanted to see more of and sadly didn’t see much of anywhere else.
