Hitman 2 Going in a Non-Episodic Direction is a Huge Disappointment

USGamer: “Here's to hoping the post-launch content is just as rich, if not better than season one's.

Hitman: Season 1 is arguably one of the best uses of an episodic structure, because it never waited too long in between episodes and peppered in limited time "Elusive Targets" and other challenges to keep you interested and coming back too. In an era of games as services, Hitman: Season 1 was one of the rare examples of keeping players engaged in a healthy, exciting way, and it's why every episode felt exciting to explore even for your tenth time. (Minus the lackluster Colorado episode.)

Thus, learning that Hitman 2 won't be adopting the same structure is a big disappointment. From a business perspective, it's probably the smarter deal—and I'm sure there are fans out there happy about this change. But as someone who considers Hitman one of the best games of 2016, I'm worried that cramming everything Hitman 2 has to offer in one single release might hinder it. It's easy to burn out on a game like Hitman, and with all the content being available at launch, it might be a bit too much for the assassin. It's being turned into a binge game now, rather than one to be carefully savored with each bite.”

-Foxtrot2152d ago

Not really...it's the best news I've heard with the announcement

Nitrowolf22152d ago

The reasoning is dumb lol, just don’t play it all at once is the solution

BLAKHOODe2152d ago

Most people lack the self control required to do that. #guilty

annoyedgamer2151d ago

Its the same vein of the people complaining about Valves open policy. I cannot control myself so I need someone else to do it for me.

Relientk772151d ago

Yeah I actually might buy Hitman this time.

annoyedgamer2151d ago

You can buy the first one now, its on a single disk steelbook edition.

TheCommentator2151d ago

I skipped the first one because of the episodic content delivery too but I keep forgetting to pick it up now that it's complete. At any rate, I'm glad they are going back to the old way of doing things.

Nyxus2152d ago

Most people are probably happy about it, you can always play it episodic if you like

Markusb332152d ago

Yeah just do 2 missions a month

jay22152d ago

To me it was completely ruined but going in the direction did and the long delay before it came out properly on disc was a joke very happy with the news to be honest

RuleNumber52152d ago

Love that it's not episodic.

This writer is one of the most negative people in the industry.

strayanalog2152d ago

"What made episodic Hitman so great was that it allowed me to take my time exploring its large-scale levels."
Seriously, if that's your biggest gripe then why write the article at all? Just take your time with the game. Each mission end, save, whatever, can be your episode end. Then you can wait days, weeks, a month, and start again after you've absorbed each level or your heart becomes content.

Chaos_Order2152d ago

Yeah, exactly. No reason why you can't play through the game from start to finish and then go back through again, trying different things. The replay value will still be there.

TheCommentator2151d ago

LOL, it's so true! I've always been able to take my time as I've played previous Hitman games. Making it episodic only takes away my ability to continue through the story when I want to. Their argument is flawed.

Gamepass just eating a bowl of W's cereal this month! I need to sub for a few more years before the price goes up!

NotoriousWhiz831d ago

Agreed. Once my sub runs out in the next couple of months, I'm buying 3 years of gold to convert to Gamepass. I probably won't be able to afford Gamepass after those 3 years are up.

Crows90831d ago

Games with gold will be long gone by then...I hope...since its kinda useless.
Gamepass...I wonder what the price hike will be.

gamer9830d ago

Does anyone know if the trick of converting existing XBL Gold into XB gamepass ultimate up to 36 months for ONE dollar still exists? Also, i assume i have to wait for my gamepass ultimate to expire in a few months before i can take advantage of any promotions? Thanks

NotoriousWhiz830d ago

It's never been 1$ for me. I always have to buy one month for $15. Normally I just do one year at a time. So $60 for one year of gold, then $15 for one month of game pass ultimate and I get 13 months of game pass ultimate for a total of $75.

gamer9828d ago

Thanks for the reply NotoriousWhiz, that's a really good deal as well

GaboonViper831d ago

Gamepass is absolutely fantastic.

Jin_Sakai831d ago

Best deal in gaming hands down! And it’s only going to get better with Bethesda and soon Activision games on board.

gangsta_red831d ago

Death's Door is seriously a fantastic game. I highly recommend everyone play it.

I have never played a Hitman so this is absolutely great news for me

GP just keeps getting better

Crows90831d ago

That's the title that called my attention. Also extraction but just to try.

Zhipp831d ago

I honestly thougth Death's Door was already on Gamepass. Wasn't it an ID@Xbox game?

GaboonViper831d ago

Hitman is fantastic, and you get the entire trilogy, GP is God like.

Elda831d ago

I guess I'll try Extraction & Death's Door.

What you do is you put your left foot in you put your right foot out........................

CobraKai964d ago

1) Download Hitman 3 Starter and Access Packs.
2) Download Hitman 2 and play via the Hitman 3 Access Pack.

SullysCigar964d ago

Better than that, you can play it in VR, if you have Hitman 3!

Profchaos964d ago

Don't even need Hitman 3 just the starter pack which is free.

SullysCigar963d ago

Didn't know that - thanks!

BlackDoomAx963d ago

Confirmed by the devs that you can't, you must have a full copy of Hitman 3 in order to play in vr.

Phoenix76964d ago

Whoa up.... You can play the entire game of hitman 2 in VR mode (psvr)??

SullysCigar963d ago

Yup - and Hitman 1 as well! They're both played by importing into Hitman 3, which apparently also updates the visuals!

BABI-PANGPANG964d ago

When trying to download the access pass it says 'Not available for purchase' and the only option is to add it to the wishlist.

Any clue what to do?

Armind964d ago

Try doing it on the ps5 store on the console itself. Just worked for me on UK store.

BABI-PANGPANG964d ago

Ah okay, will try that. Thanks for the tip!

BABI-PANGPANG964d ago

I can also confirm that this works. Wonderful!

Hopefully Sony doesn't mind this neat little trick and we can keep continue playing this game with a better performance.

badz149964d ago

I added the access pass using the PS Store on PC

badz149964d ago

and they are having Hitman 3 50% for PS+ subscribers too until the mid of the month
