H1Z1 Reaches Over 7 Million Players On PS4

Daybreak Games announced that the H1Z1 Open Beta on PS4 has now reached over 7,000,000 players.

IamTylerDurden12165d ago (Edited 2165d ago )

Those are impressive numbers, and relevant to track considering that H1Z1 is not sold at retail.

I remember when certain people scoffed at me mentioning H1Z1 coming to PS4. I believe the words were "nobody gives a s*** about H1Z1". I guess that ill-informed person was wrong because 7 million people say otherwise. Imagine how much money Pugb Corp lost by omitting PS4? Huge mistake, now Fortnite and H1Z1 (soon enough) are overtaking Pugb.

corroios2165d ago

Pugb lost millions and millions with that move and I hope the 30 or 40 millions that Microsoft gave them are enough...

darthv722165d ago

I seem to recall many a PS4 player saying they didn't want that unfinished bug of a mess PUBG on their system and now you are telling people that omitting the PS4 was a mistake?

The game is in a perpetual state of testing. Last I checked PS4 fans want finished games so it makes sense to omit the PS4 until its ready for everyone. Let the xbo and pc crowd be the royal taste testers.

stuna12165d ago

You're right darthv72. After all PS4 is "Royalty"!

ninerguy16082165d ago

Someone below says would be interesting if pubg went free to play. Lol. It would still be a mess. H1z1 performs better and it’s in beta. Lol. I played pubg for awhile but it was just a mess. Just my opinion. H1z1 is gonna just get better and better.

IamTylerDurden12165d ago (Edited 2165d ago )

darth

It was a mistake for Pubg Corp, as i said. Pubg Corp lost tens of millions maybe more by not launching on PS4. I personally have no interest in paying $40 for something i can get free. I have no interest in Pubg, but seeing how H1Z1 is booming on the system and looking at that 80m install base makes me realize the profit potential if it had come to PS4. Plus, the Pubg player base would be significantly higher and the popularity would be greater.

If pubg gets announced for PS4 at E3 it will be a cool bullet point and a nice announcement, but i personally won't care for myself. It'd be good for Sony and Pubg though.

aconnellan2165d ago

"Those are impressive numbers, and relevant to track considering that H1Z1 is not sold at retail"

"I believe the words were "nobody gives a s*** about H1Z1". I guess that ill-informed person was wrong because 7 million people say otherwise"

"now Fortnite and H1Z1 (soon enough) are overtaking Pugb"

So hang on a minute... Weren't you just in State of Decay articles saying that 2 million players don't matter because people would have been using Game Pass? (regardless of whether they used the trial or paid). I'm sure you were talking about how 'x' number of players doesn't equal sales, therefore it's not worth talking about and not important.

Yet now we're talking about how 7 million users in a free-to-play game is better than the 4 million that bought PUBG on the Xbox One (as of January)? Explain to me how that makes sense.

Either 'users' are more important than N4G is willing to admit (seeing as now they suddenly matter when talking about H1Z1), or PUBG is doing better than H1Z1 because it's had more sales (4 million+ versus 0 - because sales seems to be the only thing that people on this site care about).

Which is better? How many people are playing? Or how many people bought a copy of the game? Cause I'm seeing a lot of goal shifting.

Tony-A2165d ago

I’m sorry guys, but regardless of who I agree with on this issue, I can’t stop laughing at “PUGB”... I keep picturing a battle royale game with nothing but pugs.

Eonjay2165d ago

@darthv72

It's a free beta. We don't pay $40 for a glorified beta. Lol wow.

gangsta_red2165d ago

@tyler
"Imagine how much money Pugb Corp lost by omitting PS4?"

You're seriously condemning PUBG for not being on PS4 and your reasoning (celebrating) and comparing high player numbers for two games that are F2P?

@aconnellan
Not only are you correct but he's also celebrating two games that directly fall under GaaS something that in the right circumstances and on another system would be the bane of his existence.

But because two multiplats F2P games (one that is also on Xbox, ironically) has a higher player count compared to a PUBG not featured on PS4 this little tidbit can be forgiven.

It's absolute goal post moving at it's finest.

TFJWM2165d ago (Edited 2165d ago )

@gangsta_red "Not only are you correct but he's also celebrating two games that directly fall under GaaS something that in the right circumstances and on another system would be the bane of his existence."

Nothing wrong with GaaS the problem is when a developer or platform holder is pretty much only making/pushing GaaS.

Liqu1d2165d ago

@aconnellan Except H1Z1 is a free to play game, you can't report on copies sold because you can't buy it. Since State of Decay is a game you can actually buy then sold copies is more important since it's a metric of success. Free to play games rely on attracting a large amount of players which means more people who will potentially buy microtransactions.

Kribwalker2165d ago

H1z1 has a long way to go to overtake PUBg.
PubG is at over 30 million players on a paid game
@acon

spot on man. Tyler will shift those goal post to his liking, always does. He goes on and on about how releasing unfinished games is so horrible (see every state of decay or sea of thieves article) yet he will defend the unfinished at launch games like NMS, street fighter 5, driveclub and gtsport.

@liquid
it’s still the same thing, seeing as MS metrics of success are players playing the game and not sales, which is why they would include new games in gamepass.

SourtreeDing2165d ago

@ninerguy
@darth

im sure when pubg comes to PS4 it will run better on the system than it did on xbox i think it was rushed to the console.. but i think when it gets to ps4 will will be a hit

2165d ago
subtenko2165d ago

Nah PUBG is done. Fornite and H1Z1 plus the Forrest coming out (in case h1z1 just survive doesnt come to ps4 you get that survival experience) and PUBG is focusing on some lawsuit....theyre done. good try

It's a fun game glad to see it doing well.

Cmv382165d ago (Edited 2165d ago )

If they add zombies to the battle royal that would be great.

ocelot072165d ago

It would make a interesting twist to Battle Royal.

Cmv382165d ago

That's my thinking. Increases that threat and uneasy feeling.

ILostMyMind2165d ago

Maybe if you die, you can come back as a zombie.

UltraNova2165d ago

How about instead of red zones (Pugb) H1Z1 adds a zombie horde? Imagine all players teaming up for a couple minutes to kill the zombies and then resuming their fight? Some can even take advantage of others killing the zombie horde and kill them instead adding to the chaos!

monkey6022165d ago

I don't know why but I was genuinely under the belief that was the case.
I thought it was a battle royale with zombies in the background as an added threat

DARK_FOX2165d ago

Their just survive mode was like that you could kill other real players and there were always zombies roaming around. The battle royale mode is not though.

SuperSonic912165d ago (Edited 2165d ago )

PS4 gamers are hungry for gamez!!!

All your games are belong to us!
Keep em coming.

SuperSonic912165d ago

Don't get me wrong.
PS4 gamers have boatloads of games but the supply can not meat demands, boi!

Just can't get enough of PS4 gamez.
Fornite is not enough. Heck God of War is not enough!
The appetite is only getting bigger and bigger!

DialgaMarine2165d ago

This was achieved in, what, 2 weeks? MS brags about 6 million PUBG players in 3 months; H1Z1 reaches 7 million in 2 weeks on PS4.

But Xbox is the console for online gaming, right? lol

remixx1162165d ago

Well ones like 80 million the other is probably not even at 37 million

DialgaMarine2165d ago

Doesn’t matter; there’s still so many Xbox fans that consistently claim Xbox is the multiplayer console. This is yet another example of how that is completely false.

Movefasta19932165d ago

but has it even reached 32 million?i am worried for them

Suave_Langosta2164d ago

@dialga

Yes. Numbers matter.

Let’s do some real simple math. Ps4 has about roughly 80mil sales while Xbox is most likely less than half that, so a 2:1 ratio roughly.

So H1 by default would sale 2 times better on ps4 if it were to be released on Xbox as well, generally speaking of course.

But it’s free, so you can’t really compare the two betas, one free and one about 30 bucks, sales wise. Then the comparison goes out the window with the aforementioned when we bring up ps4 the install base.

Xbox is primarily the better mulitiplayer friendly console, while ps4 is by far the better overall choice, in my opinion.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ2165d ago

What? Fortnite did the same thing on Xbox to PUBG, It's FREE, plus PS4 has almost double the player base...

On topic, the game is pretty solid but it's not PUBG and not different enough to be in it's own BR style like Fortnite is.

Pros: 60fps is awesome!
Cons: 1080p with no AA on Pro :/

If you like PUBG, this game is not going to compare, BUT, it is a solid BR experience just less tactical and faster paced.

remixx1162165d ago

Yeah i know what you mean, but honestly its dumb to claim one over the other as the "online" console as they both practically do the same thing, azure servers or not.

2pacalypsenow2165d ago

H1Z1 is a free beta right now.

Same reason Fortnite is popular, it's free.

ILostMyMind2165d ago

And being free is a bad thing, right?

PowerOfTheCloud2165d ago (Edited 2165d ago )

Ilostmymind

It seems to be bad to some because they seem to prefer spending 40 bucks on beta bugfests instead of having them for free in a even better state.

Liqu1d2165d ago

Pubg should be free. These free games are higher quality.

2165d ago Replies(3)
Jinger2165d ago

Isn't it free though? It should get more players since this is the closest PS4 has to PUBG... also considering the much larger install base. Is anyone really shocked?

Goldby2165d ago

And Pubg was given away for free with. Early every new Xbox sold when it was released.

Jinger2165d ago

@goldby

That doesn't really make your point better. You either had to buy a $200 machine or make a $30 purchase to play PUBG. While Fortnite and H1Z1 is free regardless of what you do.

2165d ago
Goldby2165d ago

But it may have held of some new players from buying for a week or two.

To deny the fact that there were copies that were given for free is to live in a dream world. There were people who waited to buy the console, including the one x and waited for the Pubg combo

Kribwalker2165d ago

lol people waited for a pubg combo, that was not even announced until after the game was already released? A two week have it free if you buy a OneX? The next bundle with the OneS wasn’t announced until february? but people waited to spend 250-500 for a $30 game

corroios2165d ago

that just PR and nothing more. A console with 80 millions players

porkChop2165d ago

H1Z1 is free. PUBG isn't. H1Z1 is also on a console with more than twice the units sold compared to the competition.

2165d ago
kevnb2165d ago

Xbox is an afterthought, pubg is a pc game just like counter strike. Sure there may be console ports of these games, but it’s just not a good way to play them.

Xavi4K2165d ago

Well H1Z1 is free while Pubg is 30$... lol
