GameSpy: Wii Music Review

GameSpy writes: "When Shigeru Miyamoto stood on stage at this year's Nintendo E3 media conference and demonstrated Wii Music, the audience didn't know what to make of his performance. This is the man that has delivered some of the most memorable gaming experiences in history, is the creator of Mario, and probably the most famous game designer that has ever lived. Yet when the demo of Wii Music was complete, we wondered what exactly Nintendo was trying to accomplish with this seemingly shallow, casual music project."

Pros:
+Clean presentation
+Extremely user-friendly
+Directly targeted at young, casual audience

Cons:
-The more traditional "hardcore" gaming audience will simply not care about the experience it offers

i guess they will be conisdering for GOTY ...seriously, who would give this game more that 0.5 at most. No even my 5yo cousin wants this..

Seriously too high. Just read IGN review and WTF!? Nintendo has used MIDI sounding stuff that isn't even as good as Genesis MIDI sounding tracks. Also, the game plays itself.
0 out of 10 would have been too much let alone a 7.

" Nintendo has used MIDI sounding stuff that isn't even as good as Genesis MIDI sounding tracks."

@MK,
you have no clue wtf you are talking about.
Nintendo made use of a simple soundbank, it got nothing to do with Midi. I use Midi daily and my stuff doesn't sound like that.
On top of that Genesis used a FM chip, the sounds were created right from the processor. Wii-music however makes use of simple pre-produced Samples that were converted to a batch of samples that sound like an instrument.

OT:
" Nintendo was trying to accomplish with this seemingly shallow, casual music project."

It has more DEPTH to it, it you gonna wave mindlessly with the controller then you are just being a moron.

2 reviews i read today and both missed the f*cking point.

The Unexpected Legacy of Wii Music

NLife:
As tradition mandates every year, I sat watching the Nintendo's 2008 E3 presentation with high hopes of a new F-Zero being finally announced. As the presentation moved along, Cammie Dunnaway kept pushing products that were clearly not targeted at me and my generation of core gamers, bought up in the mean streets of 8- and 16-Bits. No harm there, since Nintendo's and the late great Satoru Iwata's new vision of "games for everyone" meant that there was a whole new audience to whom Nintendo had to push product presentations. I understood that, and was feeling positive because surely there had to be some sort of killer app being shown at the end of the presentation, right?

Game Soundtrack Stereotypes & Patterns...Sounds Familiar?

I couldn’t help but be surprised when I began noticing (from time to time) patterns in the way music is used within games. The following short list of game soundtrack stereotypes and patterns are by no means the result of a scientific process, but I do think it would be interesting to dip the metaphorical toe in the water and start this discussion!

I was expecting an article about the entire industry. This is sort of the norm for these types of games though.
