Nintendo Has Won 2018, Already

Nintendo Has Won 2018 - VGCultureHQ wouldn't think they’d be saying this before the year ends, but with the combination of Smash and Pokemon coming out this year, no one can compete with Nintendo.

"Nintendo Has Won 2018, Already"

It's the 6th month of 2018 and Nintendo hasn't released any compelling games for the switch but they released cardboard. The switch is in a drought. Only silly fanatics would think the switch is winning when it comes to gaming.

emiyaxtousaka2185d ago

The cardboard is selling pretty well as are the ports but I generally agree

Strange_Evil2185d ago

I own a switch and I haven't played anything on it in the past 6 months apart from re-runs for Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Rabbids. Both are amazingly fun but proclaiming you've won 2018 when you haven't literally released any major new titles which includes 3rd party releases is a joke.

I like the switch but it has been accumulating dust for the last 5-6 months and will do the same until Smash releases

SuperSonic912185d ago

Im pretty sure Nintendo fans love watching Cartoon Network all the time.

@michellelynn0976

It didn't. Forgets about Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Battlefield 4, Killzone Shadowfall, Madden, Fifa . Injustice: Gods Among us. NBA2k14, Just Dance, Lego Marvel Super heroes, Knack, NBA Live 14.

Of course within the next year you had Outlast, Tomb Raider: Definitive edition, Lego Movie Videogame, Rayman Legends, Thief, Infamous: Second Son, Dyanasty Warriors 8, Lego The Hobbit, Final Fantasy XIV Online, Amazing Spider man 2, Child of Light, Bound by Flame, MLB14: The Show, Wolfenstein: The New Order (how many Switch people are clamoring about this game... yet it was part of the PS4's... no games theory), Watch Dogs, EA Sports UFC, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, Sniper Elite 3, The Last of Us Remastered, Plants vs Zombies, Garden Warfare, Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition, Metro: Last Light Redux, Metro 33 Redux, Madden 15, Metro Redux, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, NHL 15, Destiny, Minecraft, Fifa 15, Disney Infinity 2.0, Defense Grid 2, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Styx: Master of Shadows, NBA2k15, Alien: Isolation, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, The Evil Within, Need for Speed: Rival Complete edition, The Walking Dead, Just Dance 2015, Samurai Warriors 4, Shaddow Warrior, Singstar: Ultimate Party, NBA Live 15, Lords of the Fallen, Call of Duty: Advance Warfare, The Wolf AMong us, Rocksmith 2014 edition, Moto GP 14, PES 2015, Lego Batman 3: Beyond GOtham, Asassin's Creed Unity, GTA V, Little Big Planet 3, Far Cry 4, WWE 2k15, Dragon's Age: Inquisition.

Plus a bunch of indies....that were not carrying the load. Note... this is 1 year, not 1 year and 3 months and looking forward to the fall for what will be 1 year and 8-9 months with many of the big boys for Switch being 2019-2020.

Even the Wii U had far more retail games at launch and in its first 9 months then Switch has had in over a year. Let's recap what Wii U had at launch and it's first few months since recency bias has clouded people's minds BADLY.

WIi U launch
Madden 13 (no madden on Switch)
Fifa 13 (no fifa...yet on Switch, but they had it at launch for Wii U)
Mass Effect 3 (AAA games from the same year aren't on Switch, especially at launch)
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Funky Barn
Wipeout 3
Call of Duty BLOPS 2 (no cod on Switch, especially not on launch)
Disney Epic Mickey 2
Transformers Prime:The Game
Skylanders Giants
Sonic&All-Stars Racing Transformed (they are only announcing a sonic racing now for whenever... not for purchase at launch)
Just Dance 4
Your Shape:Fitness Evolved
ZombiU (was actually an exclusive 3rd party game at launch...at least until after the WIi U died)
Assassin's Creed III
Rabbids Land
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge
Batman:Arkham City (another 3rd party AAA game AT LAUNCH)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition
Darksiders II (AA 3rd party game AT LAUNCH)
New Super Mario Bros. U
...and more

jmc88882185d ago

WIi U from launch+12 months
Amazing Spider-Man
Lego City Undercover (exclusive for the first what 3 or 4 years... great exclusive)
Need for Speed: Most Wanted U (3rd party AAA racing game... was actually the BEST console version)
Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
Resident Evil:Revelations
Sniper Elite V2
Mutant Mudds Deluxe
New Super Luigi U
Game and Wario
Injustice: Gods Among uS
Smurfs 2
Pikmin 3
Disney Planes
Disney Ducktales Remastered
Disney Infinity
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist (another AAA 3rd party game)
Rayman Legends
Dugeons &Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
The Wonderful 101
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
TNT Racers: Nitro Machines dition
Just Dance 2014
Sklyanders Swap Force
Mighty Switch Force!2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution -Director's Cut (another Wii U AAA release)
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
Batman: Arkham Origins (another Wii U AAA release)
Wii Party U
Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adevntures
Sonic: Lost Word
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (another AAA 3rd party Assassin's Creed on Wii U...that's Wii U 2, Switch 0)
Wii Fit U
Wii Sports Club
Mario&Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympics
Super Mario 3D World
Edge
Call of Duty: Ghosts (that's another AAA shooter on wii u, that's 2 CoD's on Wii U, 0 on Switch).

Many Nintendo extremists logic always excludes 3rd party when it comes to Sony/MS and adds them in for Nintendo.

Now Nintendo's fans are to pretend all the indies make up. Indies are nice games, but they can be had anywhere, usually before and cheaper. It can't be a system's crutch.

The fact is, Wii U got ports that were a year old and not too far from the 360/PS3 lead console version... and it is somehow a drought. Switch gets 6 year old ports not to far above 360/PS3 and many times scraping the bottom of the barrel performance wise (Doom) and it's 'amazing'. Just remember any modern PC can run the game at 150-200 FPS in/near full ultra settings at 1080p. I'm talking i7 and GTX 1070, not SLI or ti, not 8-16 cores, but quad core and 4th-5th best GPU in the GPU generation behind 1070ti, 1080, 1080ti, Titan.

The Switch also had a 1 1/2 years+ to get ready since they stopped supporting Wii U mainly very early in its cycle.

The only game I can't have elsewhere that's on the Switch is Mario. That's it. BOTW on my Wii U, and nothing else really compelling me to purchase it. Already have Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon. Still haven't gotten through Xenoblade 1.

jmc88882185d ago

Here's what Switch has had in ~15 months, and EXTRA 3 months compared to everything else.
Fifa 18, Dragonball:Xenoverse, Pokken Tournament, The Lego ninjago movie, NBA2k18, Rayman Legends (old), Lego Worlds, Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (an exclusive 3rd party game!!!), Splatoon 2, Arms, Disagea 5 complete, Minecraft Switch Edition, NBA Playgrounds, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (old), Lego City Undercover (old), Just Dance 2017, BOTW (on Wii U), Fast RMX, Snipperclips, Yookalaylee, WWE2k18, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Resident Evil: Revelations Collection (old), Worms W.M.D., Skyrim (ancient), Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2, Rocket League, L.A. Noire (ancient), Doom (a AAA 3rd party game, a bit old!), Super Mario Odyssey, South Park: The Fractured But Whole (a AAA 3rd party game, a bit old!), Donkey Kong County: Tropical Freeze (old), One piece pirate Warriors 3, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (old), Street Fighter 30th anniversary, Bayonetta+Bayonetta2 (old), Payday 2 (old), Scribblenauts Showdown, Kirby All-Stars, Outlast 2 (hey a AA 3rd party game!), Labo. Wading through all the indies/8-bit that make up the rest of library I might have missed a couple of them. But you get the point. 15 months and a far lesser library then even the Wii U after 12 months.

The big gun was Zelda. That's their biggest. Mario game already game out. Now it's going to take 2-4 years from the last games launch until they the teams that were doing remastered Mario Kart and Splatoon 1.5 and the like can turnaround and make a great NEW game.

So if PS4 had no games but about 10x the AA and AAA games, what's that make Switch? With it's big guns already out Zelda and Mario. They have Pokemon and Metroid left, and neither are as big as Zelda and Mario. Pokemon is close, but you still have the 35-60 year old Nintendo fans that aren't as big into it.

Also PS4/XB1 was a leap up, causing ACTUAL new methods to be employed since so many of these developers hadn't made games like this before.

The fact is, the AA and AAA 3rd party games simply aren't there on Switch. They were there on Wii U, PS4, XB1, PC. There's a few token ones, plus a bunch of 6-10 year old PS3/360 games ported or remastered coming. But they aren't coming yet. This E3 is going to be big for Nintendo, because they need to showcase about triple what's launched so far to be released in the next 6-9 months, because the drought is real. Meanwhile showcase their own IP's with release dates.

I want Nintendo to do well, and to provide competition, but they bite off more then they can chew EVERY TIME and then design their hardware so that no one else can take up the slack... except indies. Not a good recipe long term. Remember Folks Switch has to sell portable+home console line numbers. Meaning 2DS/3DS+Wii/WiiU. Because it's now representing 2 lines, and 2DS+Wii= 250 million units sold. Even 3DS+Wii U was about 85 million units sold.

UltraNova2185d ago

Oh God that insurmountable, eye watering, brain melting wall of text!!!

bluefox7552185d ago

@Strange_Evil And that's the problem with Nintendo consoles, the downtime between the only releases that anyone cares about. Sure, there's other games, but they're either very inferior ports of current gen games, or indies that are rather niche, if we're being honest.

HarvE30002185d ago

When you put it like that, I don’t know wether to laugh or cry

Dark-soul2185d ago

switch is super good as a lover :) for example wife ps4 and switch as a hot bitch that you hit once or twice a month.

monkey6022185d ago

Switch is excellent! But best as a complimentary console. You need another for your main fix and have the switch on the side.

Mario Tennis Aces is going to be excellent too. I was glued to it all weekend. Definitely going to do well

PowerOfTheCloud2185d ago

@ dark soul

Yeah it's like you have a ps4 as super sexy wife which you do on a daily basis. You find her awesome and attracting and truly adore her but once or twice a year the chick you know since childhood (switch), comes to town. She might not look as good as your wife, but she does things you wife wouldn't do so or can't do the same. So you have your fun with, she leaves town and you spend your time perfecty happy with your wife.😂

ChickeyCantor2185d ago

>The switch is in a drought.

People actually agreed with you. lol this place.

BadElf2185d ago

I agree. The Switch started off great, up until Super Mario Odyssey. Big drought. They have to get us going Coo-Coo again.
They will. They will.

3-4-52185d ago

You are kidding right?

Stop pretending they aren't about to release Fire Emblem, Smash Bros. & 2 Pokemon games in the next 4-6 months.

That plus at least 9 other unknown games via the leaked Gamestop placeholder titles...Fire Emblem for sure being one of them.

Nintendo will have more unique titles on display...Games Sony or Microsoft don't have an answer to.

That being said, Microsoft's conference is 2 hours and they Need to show off some games, it should be decent and Sony's conference will be solid just based on the few games we know will be there.

Nintendo's is the only really exciting one in terms of their being an unknown mystery to what we may still get.

Stop the Nintendo hate....it's embarrassing.

Artemidorus2184d ago

Only a company like Nintendo can fool people into buying cardboard for a high price.

Yup

Although after last year in regards to E3 all Nintendo needs to "win" something, even with games not even out is a logo in front on a black screen. No gameplay, no montage, no actual trailer, not even a teaser...just a logo.

naruga2185d ago

i completely agree ..

monkey6022185d ago

I absolutely LOVE my Switch and I enjoy the games they're bringing to it but Jesus the Nintendo community are pure cringe. The reaction videos to Nintendo reveals are all you need to see to lose hope in a fanbase, Its mad

RpgSama2185d ago

Just Two games and one of them being the Pokemon fans didn't ask for will not win 2018 for Nintendo, I'm sorry, but no,

michellelynn09762185d ago

And that is too early to judge.

Shiken2185d ago

Nah, they will not win 2018. The holiday maybe, but Sony has 2018 on lock. God of War now and Red Dead 2 for holiday put them in a position that Nintendo cannot catch up with due to a slow start to the year.

Both will do well though.

Aceman182185d ago (Edited 2185d ago )

I don't even care about Smash or Pokemon. The only game I know that's coming this year that I want is Fire Emblem.

Only game I'm playing right now is xenoblade chronicles 2.

Mr Marvel2185d ago

Agreed. If Nintendo bring Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem to E3, then that’s all I need for the Switch.

trooper_2185d ago

I had to laugh at the title.

badz1492185d ago

Sony outsold Nintendo over 5mil units worldwide last year but for Nintendo fanboys, Nintendo won 2017 LOL.

And this year with the Switch on a draught so far this year with nothing but Wii U ports while Sony is smashing it with exclusives months after months and is dominating the market, Nintendo fanboys already claim Switch won 2018 based on 2 yet to be released games. Nintendo fanboys are delusional on another level.

UCForce2185d ago

@emiyaxtousaka @michellelynn0976 You two are getting overconfident. That’s not good at all.

joab7772185d ago

What is this dude on? Yeah. They are great games, but c’mon man!

Indeed. Full steam ahead to Nintendo, king of the gaming industry.

Ricegum2185d ago

Absolute silence after Colbernator's comment 😂

Atticus_finch2185d ago

Don't forget to pray at night to Sony, God of the gaming Universe.

OffRoadKing2185d ago

I have an alter of Phil Spencer, I praise him and his clever gaming tee's each night before I go to sleep.

Dragonscale2185d ago

You forgot the /s col as usual.

Gardenia2185d ago

That's being a clickbait article

ApocalypseShadow2185d ago (Edited 2185d ago )

Stop. Just stop the nonsense. How do you win with 2 unreleased games? After half a year has already passed?

Sony sold more consoles, more software, has more award winning titles this year, has more 3rd party games/deals and vr? If nintendo releases the 2 at the end of the year back to back, ***what about the other 10 months? ***

Switch is cool but come on.

emiyaxtousaka2185d ago

I guess Pokemon and Smash fans are ridiculous? Pokemon fans will literally buy the system just for this game and the next gen

Liqu1d2185d ago

Don't assume Pokémon fans will buy a Switch for Let's Go, it's a more casual spin-off. The main game next year is more important. We've seen nothing on Smash, it could end up being subpar and leaving fans disappointed.

frostypants2185d ago (Edited 2185d ago )

How would that equate to "winning 2018"?!

Snookies122185d ago (Edited 2185d ago )

Haha, I'm sorry, it takes some seriously blind fanboy mentality to think that as of right now. I'm not saying they won't win 2018. With what we know at the moment? No chance at all. Striking exclusives off the list, from Microsoft and Sony. They won't even be getting some of the very promising third party games this year.

MajorLazer2185d ago

RDR2. Nothing else needs to be said

Tazzy2185d ago

Nothing else needs to be said??? Red Dead was on Xbox 360 and PS3 it wasn't on Wii but Nintendo beat both without in in the console war that generation if Grand Theft Auto V or the first Red Dead game were only on one console it wouldn't hit the sales of a Pokemon game. Now nothing else needs to be said. ;)

wonderfulmonkeyman2185d ago

RDR2 is not going to beat out Metroid Prime 4, let alone Smash or next year's mainline Pokemon.

Knushwood Butt2185d ago

I'm certain RDR2 will sell way more than Metroid Prime 4.

kneon2184d ago

@Tizzy

The moms and grandparents that made the win a success have moved on, they aren't coming back get over it.

Tazzy2185d ago

Nobody expected Mario Odyssey to sell close to 10 million copies in its first 3 months either but it did it outsold in that amount of time what Horizon sold in 1 year. Microsoft has exclusives but those exclusives haven't been reviewed good so that leaves Microsoft out of it good exclusives sell consoles and with Smash Bros. and Pokemon coming this year with those 2 titles alone $$$$$$$.

jmc88882185d ago (Edited 2185d ago )

Horizon was reviewed good.

Many of Nintendo's games also aren't reviewed well.

PS4 and XB1 have AA and AAA games that are the most games sold in the world. Nintendo lacks these games.

AA and AAA 3rd party games sell consoles. Exclusives sway people one way or the other towards Xbox or PS4 and sure, sell a good bit too.

But it's AA and AAA 3rd party games that rule the world, and Switch doesn't have them. Wii U had more.

DemonChicken2185d ago

You are comparing an established franchise to a new IP.

I like to see a new IP from Nintendo and then see how well it does. Nintendo's new IP output is abysmal compared to Sony.

jeromeface2185d ago

Lol at you comparing a system with so few titles to a system with so many and using that as a saturation basis. You obviously have no business sense.
